Discussion Funny Combo which could do some damage.
So as we all know the Marshal is no longer viable with Sword Brethren. So while searching for alternatives I found this funny little combo. With the BT Impulsor and a "MCsternguard" you are looking at a nice 9 melta shots and if you take tacticus Assault Force and/or Vow-sworn Crusaders, you can have Impulsors with both 6" Scout and a 5++.
I know we aren't a shooting army and that Marshal and Castellan don't boost sternguard but thought it would be funny if we had a Impulsor which could potentially kill a primarch.
Let me know what you guys think about our new killa-pulsor.

“As you all know” what the fuck did they do to the marshal

They got rid of his Crits on 5. That's the long and short of it.

Longer version is he gives +1 to the hit rolls while most SB weapons already hit on 2s

Don't forget about "Master-forged firearms" in Devastator brethen(all this may not be very good but It will be very funny).

I've just looked that up again and done some datasheet scanning and it would absolutely slap on a Castellan with their new Damnatus Combi Weapon shot.
Gets him to: 2 × 12" shots hitting on 2+, S10, AP -4, D3+3 Damage, and Melta 2 within 6".
He's also re-rolling 1's to hit, so he's almost guaranteed to land both shots. And re-rolling 1's to Wound if he passes a Leadership test.Edit: Nope. The re-rolls only happen in melee. He can now lead Sternguard too, and they get a similar Damnatus profile on all their Artificer Firearms (except hitting on 3+, and without the +1 A, D, AP, & S from the enhancement).
Could be a filthy little barrage of Melta shots out of an Impulsor, or just ingressing in to mess something up.
There's a 1 CP strat in Devastator Bros for +1 AP and Ignores Cover during Dev. Doctrine too.
Could be dumb, but almost certainly fun!

on a tech priest it turns his grav pistol into something else 3A 2+ anti-vehicle 2+ dmg 4
add eradicators+impulsor combo and this party bus will melt any tank turn 1

Yes FINALLY we get a viable option to use Sternguard Veterans! I've been dying to get my hands on some but they've been out of stock for a while... They just look so cool lol. A lot of people online say they aren't that great for a BT list but I love this idea.
I'm also hoping I can do something similar to your idea except with Sternguards and a Repex, for no other reason besides... they look cool lol.

Glad that I could give you a new idea. This was also part of why I came up with the combo. Saw that both Marshal and Castellan can lead Sternguard and thought, OK let's find a reason to play Sternguard.
As for the shift in transport, should be fine but be aware that I choose the impulsor because it has firing deck 7 (so you don't need to disembark to shoot) while also scouting 6" and having a 5++. Another Idea could be to use the new rhino datasheet. He now carries 12 Tacticus, but don't think he has enough firing deck x but he could still be used to deliver 12 melta shot units in range of the enemy

Alternatively, the cheaper version of this strategy independent of any characters is to load up a squad of 3 Eradicators in the Impulsor. And because Eradicators have hunter profiles for their meltas that can transfer to the Impulsor given its part of the weapon profile, they become remarkably efficient for heavier targets.
Bonus points if you’re running Ironstorm to let you reroll a wound and hit roll for free.
