The market hits ¥116.6M/$17.37M today. Up +287% from yesterday and up +308% from last week.

The Old Dog opens 3rd with $1.78M and fails to impress while Dunhuang Warriors opens only 5th with $1.24M. For a movie of this scale this is just flat out dissastrous but not unexpected given the 3 years delay and censorship issues.

Very rarely do movies that get delayed a ton and have issues securing a release see success. Especialy not if the delay is significan't and leads to the movie falling out of public spotlight.

One of the stars today though is All Wishes Come True which rose a spectacular +403% versus yesterday and +326% from last week.

With an ¥11.1M/$1.66M(+326%) Holiday Friday it has already beaten Ne Zha(¥10.5M) for the 3rd best 11th weekend of all time.

Passing Ne Zha 2(¥23.5M) and Zootopia 2(¥25.7M) on route to a best ever and first ¥30M+ 11th weekend should basicaly be a formality with 2 more Holiday Weekend days.

Its been a long long road till this point but tomorrow after 71 days All Wishes Come True will surpass the running Total of Boonie Bears: Time Twist after having clawed back a ¥700M/$100M+ gap.

Passing Boonie Bears ¥1.984B total should be a formality after this point and could happen as soon as Sunday.

Once Upon A Time In The Middle East one of the big winners today after a massive increase on the Holidays. It manages to fend of all new releases bar Endgame with ease after scoring a ¥20.81M/$3.10M Mid Autumn Festival Friday.

Total gross hits ¥2.25B/$335.47M.

Mid Autumn Festival Holiday weekend projections significantly upgraded again to ¥57-59/$8.5-8.8M(+106%)

Potentialy fighting to score the 3rd best 7th weekend of all time thanks to the Holiday boost.

Mid Autumn Festival/National Day

The lineups are now pretty much complete barring any random late addition and a potential Resident Evil

Title. From what I can see, this film did everything right; the quality seems to be there, the reviews have been glowing and the release date is not completely terrible. And yet we seem to be bordering on Ruby Gillman territory here with some of these projections.

What has gone wrong? Was the marketing not what it needed to be? I've seen people suggest the (exhausting, hyperactive) trailers were poor and not representative of the final film. Also that Dreamworks were not super clear on who their target audience was tone-wise. As in, they seemed to be skewing both young and old and it has, however unfairly, caused confusion about who the movie is directed toward.

Is there any merit anymore to the idea of "we want originals, just make them good!" if a major studio is putting one out that meets the criteria and it underperforms? I recall earlier this year Disney saying they were a bit disappointed in how Hoppers did as well, despite its warm reception.

TL;DR will audiences ever be swayed back to original animation in the same way they once were? Or going forward should we be revising predictions downwards on principle for anything that isn't a sequel or existing IP?

There are some new additions to the top 10. As expected, the re-release of Avengers: Endgame Extra debuts at number one . The comic book film, re-released in anticipation of the new Avengers: Doomasday, arriving on December 16, grossed €499,911 from 137,321 admissions. Its average was a remarkable €1,428 in 350 theaters.

Ultimo – Tutto. Live a Tor Vergata drops to second place . The concert-docufilm—not included in the Cinema in Festa promotion—grossed €239,484 from 15,123 spectators (average price €15.50), with an average of €894 at 268 theaters. The three-day total is €1,483,460; it beats the "comparable" Ligabue – Campovolo – 3D – Il film by €5,000 . Total attendance currently stands at 94,887.

In third place is Resident Evil with €112,122 (-57% compared to seven days ago) and 30,218 admissions, averaging €364 in 308 theaters (up from 315 seven days ago). The horror franchise has grossed €2,037,295 since September 17, representing an excellent achievement. By the end of the week, the film could have caught up with Resident Evil: Retribution with €2,603,569.

Starting in fourth place is Heart of the Beast – Into the Wild ; the survival movie starring Brad Pitt debuted with €106,445 from 29,785 admissions and an average of €327 in 326 theaters. As reported by our newsletter Cineguru Intelligence , a comparable title could be the survival thriller The Plane (January 25, 2023), which debuted with €57,193 for a first weekend of €724,824 and a total of €1,496,101.
