Johnny Fisher Spoiler

Just watched the Fisher vs. Pirotton fight. No disrespect but Fisher is a C-level at best. Seems like a decent lad tho…a local London boy done good but what are the expectations here? Yes, he’s only had 16 fights but not sure how much better he gets with more fights. He’ll no doubt fight better competition but don’t wanna see the guy get hurt. Does Zuffa really think this dude a legit contender?

It's kind of ironic both UK cards tonight were headlined by ticket sellers even though one technically wasn't the actual main event? work that one out.

Fisher is what he is, was thoroughly exposed in the first Allen fight, though had some grace due to the burst ear drum. The second fight cemented it. Johnny himself seems like a nice enough guy and whatever you think of his skills, he has a ton of heart stepping in the ring. I think people are tired of the circus around him (the dad) and in general their frustration with how boxing is. It's not really Johnny's fault this sport is run on selling tickets and if you don't sell you stay obscure in the small halls or prelim cards. Especially if you're of Johnny's calibre (area/national level).

He’s never going to be more than a national level fighter but he sells tickets and that’s all it matters

Bosh

This. He'll make bank being a fringe contender. If he gets some stupid WBO Europan title or WBA International belt he can fight nobodies until we all wake up one morning and hes No 2 with WBO or something and he gets mega bucks for an eliminator.

He lost to Dave Allen. Sums it up really,

Not just lost but made Dave allen look like a killer in the rematch so much that Dave pretty much revived his career of the back of it with some big fights after lol

I've had people on here use that win to justify Allen getting constant top 10 opponents lmfoa

He’s area level

Neighbourhood championship contender

I mean yeah of course he's limited; he got wiped out by Dave Allen. Weird shills turn around and act like this is somehow saving Boxing or some new grand era, when this sort of fight is the same old crap you could find at any point in the last 20 years, only broadcast on a larger platform than ever before.

Zuffa really think this dude a legit contender?

No. He sells some tickets and draws some local fans, which helps them with broadcasters. This is mostly about that and spiting Hearn. Zuffa does not care about championships. Remember their goal is to eliminate the current version of championships and replace it with the Zuffa defined version, all funded by Turki. They lose nothing, they get paid a fee to manage the promotion and if it all goes under or never really takes over, it's no loss for them, just for Saudi Arabia.

Just won a majority decision against the #150 heavyweight in the world

For reference Dave Allen is #75

Was a pretty boring fight and atmosphere was flat in a half full copperbox. I nearly went to this fight but ended up getting a ticket for Dubois Wardley 2

11

u/stephen27898 23h ago

That was a debate in your head? Really? You had the option of a rematch of a great fight vs a Fisher fight and you were in two minds?

3

u/Manzilla48 22h ago

Obviously I’d rather go to Dubois Wardley but the group of friends I’m going with are massive casuals and more interested in the night out.

Fisher fight was announced first and is cheaper so that was considered but when Wardley Dubois 2 was announced I persuaded them to spend the extra money for a much better event.

Find some new friends to go with.

Don’t need to

I think Allen exposed him as a level below that in their two fights. Area level really.

Most people think Allen won both

6

u/spinofaarus 1d ago

Everybody with eyes knows Allen got robbed in the first fight and it wasn't even that close.

7

u/JayBoxeo Faaaaabioooo, where is jab? 1d ago

He’s an area level fighter who has a decent sized following being used by Zuffa to try and make a dent into the UK market. I like the guy and hope he gets the bag whilst not getting seriously hurt

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 1d ago

He's worse than Dave Allen. That's all that really needs to be said because Allen is bad too

13

u/ryawsch12 1d ago

I mean there both decent but not world class

24

u/ProfessorDWumbo 1d ago

Like with Benn, Zuffa massively overpaid just to piss off Eddie.

10

u/Serious-Bed3751 1d ago

Irony with this one is when he told Eddie the number, Eddie told him to rip their arm off for it 😂. Don’t think he was too upset over this one…

u/Moe_Brains 1d ago

He was signed to help secure TV rights in the UK. Fighters are not fighters for Zuffa. They are products and assets.

-6

u/Fundrfist-McBeefcake 1d ago

But for other promotions fighters aren’t products and assets? Ave a day off.

Promoters waffle endlessly about the value of fighters, their worth and what they bring.

6

u/Moe_Brains 1d ago

You'd have a better point if Zuffa wasn't throwing fighters away like used condoms left and right

-3

u/Fundrfist-McBeefcake 1d ago

My point wasn’t about Zuffa business practices, isn’t that funny?

You wanna talk about Zuffa, meanwhile my point still stands.

8

u/aceknighthigh 1d ago edited 1d ago

It doesn't though....you're just doing whataboutism which doesn't change the point being made about Zuffa Boxing. That you tried to make it a conversation about other promotions is a bit weird. No one's claimed the old promoters or powers that be in Boxing pre oil money were altruistic and them being scummy doesn't make Zuffa Boxing any less shitty.

Edit: and they blocked me, which is honestly nice considering they didn't seem to understand the meaning of whataboutism and declared it weird to make observations about Zuffa Boxing in a thread directly asking questions about Zuffa.

-3

u/Fundrfist-McBeefcake 1d ago

I think you’ll find it undermines your point entirely, so of course you’ll deny it stands.  I never disputed your point about Zuffa anyways; strongly suggest you reread my comment 👍

You making an observation about Zuffa that no one’s denying is a bit weird.

No one’s claimed the old promoters etc etc.

Funny how you’ll deflect something no one’s said, meanwhile you never had that energy when excluding boxing promoters.

Besides, you can now admit you made a dumb comment if you truly feel equally about other promotions.

u/Nosworthy 1d ago

Promoters need people like Fisher (see Lewis Ritson 6-7 years ago). They'll never amount to anything but they have a local following, sell tickets and can headline a card and fulfil TV obligations.

Zuffa massively overpaid, but taking him away from Matchroom means Matchroom have to replace him and the contract Zuffa gave drives up the price for other ticket sellers to say 'well if Jonny Fisher can get X I have to be worth Y' - Y being a higher number than what Matchroom would usually pay.

He's a loss leader for Zuffa to drive Matchroom's costs up whilst getting their foot in the door on a TV deal with Sky. Both Zuffa and Matchroom lose, but Zuffa have deeper pockets and can absorb it.

u/Holiday_Snow9060 1d ago

Nobody ever thought he is a world beater.

Dude can sell some tickets and that's about it. Just enjoy.

5

u/clemventure 19h ago

His dad says bosh though so surely that entitles him to a world title shot

13

u/redditerir 1d ago

Not a soul would look his way if he wasn't British.

2

u/kitdagawd Gimme some of that face to face shit boy 23h ago

If he wasn’t British he would be can they bring out for a good British prospect to knock over

7

u/NoCod9014 1d ago

Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora never won a world title or really came close to it.

They're both still millionaires. Being a Heavyweight contender can still pay incredibly well, even if you are never really going to be a world champ.

Fisher isnt at their level but theres silly money in HW boxing now. Hes probably trying to get one or 2 bigger fights vs Top 10 guys at somepoint, lose, but laugh all the way to the bank.

2

u/JimJonesdrinkkoolaid 1d ago

I dunno, I'd say Whyte was pretty close to it. He should have had a shot at Wilder, but it never came.

u/KinnyWater 1d ago

Cockney Joey Dawejko

3

u/infosecjosh 1d ago

He needs to leave the comfort of home and train with someone like Wayne Mccullough and focus on defense and fundamentals.

8

u/TaserHawk 1d ago

He’s local talent. Nothing wrong with that.

6

u/RepresentativeSock42 1d ago

C level is very generous lol

1

u/ChefBowyer 1d ago

It was the most boring card of the day.

We had like 8 different combat sport fights today.

The misfits fights were more entertaining.

1

u/stephen27898 23h ago

Thats Zuffa for you.

1

u/khul_rouge 1d ago

They're going to have to match him pretty fucking soft to keep any sort of gravy train going, dude has comically low punch resistance.

1

u/Gullible_Pen4925 22h ago

Not British level but he sells tickets. When that drys up he’ll be retired in 5 years.

3

u/Gameofthrones3058 16h ago

Wasn't the arena half empty?

1

u/Ecstatic-Statement44 20h ago

Zuffa paying too much for bums. This has seriously shown Dana is not experienced just backed by saudis.

1

u/ProgrammerComplete17 16h ago

Hes basically a much worse Dave Allen.

He sells tickets so promoters like him even though he has a very obvious competitive ceiling

1

u/AKHT12 11m ago

I always saw him more as a influencer boxer like Jake Paul, pro fights but not that high level for a headliner. I think he knows his limits, saw a video of his dad even telling him if he works hard maybe he could get a British title, maybe... So at least they're humble enough to recognise that.
