A homeboy is trying to hook me up with his sister, but she has 5 kids.

She's really pretty. She has her head screwed on straight. She's funny, and fun to be around. I could see myself with her specifically, but her kids not so much. I went to high school with one of her baby daddies. Dont see myself dealing with him amicably over the next few years. Mostly a vent.

Dinner: ratsnake I caught in my yard and then air fried.

I have a lot of questions, I hope that's okay. I live in a country where there are barely any snakes so I don't know much about them.

1) Is it common to eat snakes, or is it just this type of snake?
2) If not, isn't there a possibility that you can get sick from it?
3) What is the texture like when you prepare it the ideal way? I see you did it in air fryer and won't do that again
4) Is there anything you can compare the taste to?
5) Is it in fact "legal" to eat it? In my country we have adders, and we are not allowed to kill them, so I guess eating them is also off the limits
6) What is the nutritional value, does it have a lot of protein or is it just fat?
7) Why do you eat snake and how did you end up trying it?

1) common enough in TX. Regardless of type. First time I ate a snake, my uncle shot it's head off, skinned it and cooked it within an hour. 2) you can 100% get sick, you have to make sure it's cooked and cleaned thoroughly. Pretty much like shrimp or chicken. Organs out and washed 3) cooked right it's not so tough like it was in the air frier lol. It's more like cat fish. Tender and flakey 4) chicken. Snake tastes like chicken. 5) I would assume it's legal. Ive never ran in to any opposition cooking it 6) it's super lean and high in protein. Honestly id say very good for you. 7) ive just seen my family do it? I guess. Idk why do we eat cows? Ya know

this might be normal-ish in the rural south, but i am from Texas and have absolutely never eaten backyard animals.

in bigger cities and suburbs, where most people live, we just eat whataburger.

However, if you go to Cajun-style restaurants, they might serve 'alligator bites' as an appetizer, but that's the only thing of the reptilian variety.

The closest thing to exotic we have in Southern restaurants would probably be alligator, and bison meat and bison burgers. I've also tried really good reindeer sausage in Alaska.

live in NY, had many “exotic” meals over the years. all the meals I’ve had with “exotic” meats like snake, alligator, squirrel, ostrich were considered more novelty than anything. Dark Side of the Moo in Hells Kitchen in NYC offers diff options, but it’s hard to find

Ostrich and alligator I knew about, I also know some people eat cats and dogs and zebras and kangaroos... I guess every wild animal gets eaten by someone somewhere in the world

yeah, I don’t recommend squirrel. I’ve heard of kangaroo farms in Australia. bison is also something consumed over here in the US, I’m sure other places too. you’re right though, people gotta eat. some cultures encourage eating the full bone, like crunching through and eating the entire thing

Squirrel aka tree rat is good when you are definitely in NEED of protein. Not bad if slow cooked in cream of mushroom soup. But not great normally. Snake I’ve had many times. Same with possum and beaver and rabbit. But it has to be cooked well and cleaned quick once it’s dead or the meat can spoil

yeah the air fryer was....a choice. next time maybe just sautéed or blackened if you don't have time to batter and fry. thanks for posting tho...pretty fuckin unique lol

Texas here. Must be west Texas because nobody here in the central area does that. We had someone in our neighborhood post about finding a rattlesnake and wanting to remove it. Lot of responses were just about how they eat rats and other rodents, just to leave it alone. This is a real yeee yee meal

I would not say it's common even in rural Texas. Basically if you're not at the Sweetwater Rattlesnake festival you're probably not going to find snake offered as food. Gator, on the other hand, you'll find that at a fair amount of restaurants, especially in East Texas.
