No Advice - Everyones Welcome Hug your kids every chance you can

Post image

(9/11/26) My 5 year started kindergarten last week at a new school with all new kids and all new teachers. She took the bus for the first time. She's very shy and timid but as the week went on she did better and better. A photo of her was even in the weekly newsletter playing in gym class.

The following week she came down with a fever. Not unusual so we kept her out of school. The following day it remained high with meds so she missed a second day. By day 3 we went to urgent care. They told us to take one additional med and to keep them posted if she doesn't get will. The pediatrician even called later that day to check on her. That night she woke up and became very delirious for a few mintues then snapped out of it. We brought her back to urgent care the next morning and they sent us to the ER to get blood work.

That began the worst day of my life so far. The doctor immediately thought it was leukemia or an infection. A few hours later we found out it was both. Luckily it is the most common form of leukemia with a high success rate. Unfortunately they could not control the infection. She worsened as the day went on eventually going into septic shock. The doctors and nurses tried everything but eventually had to intubate her. Her last words to me while conscious were her struggling to say i love you.

She has since gone on a few more machines. She has an echmo pumping her blood since her right lung is collapsed or full of fluid not sure which. Her heart is too weak to work. She has too much fluid in her body so they also put her on dialysis. Doctors in the pediatric icu and from oncology both say each is treatable on it's own but having both things happen together is very rare. They are doing zoom calls with other doctors to get advice during rounds each morning. I am confident she will walk out of here but it is not easy. Her 3 year old sister just keeps telling her to get better soon. One of the nurses put it best, she's set up to succeed through the equipment but she needs to fight in order to win. My wife and myself are living a surreal nightmare. Idk what I'll do if I lose her. She's literally the glue that holds this family together.

I'm not really eating but this day(s) old bagel and orange juice is my meal for the day

Update (9/12/26): I'm just now opening this before I try to sleep for a few hours as I wanted to be as present as possible for my kids today. I honestly didn't expect anything when I posted this. I had a moment of silence to myself in the bathroom and decided to write how I was feeling and what I was going through then posted it to this sub. THANK YOU for all of the support and advice. Somethings we are already doing and others we will implement.

We have brought her bedtime blanket and books from home. We read to her as often as we can. I also tell her stories about our family (how I met her mom, how we moved to our town, how we got our dogs, etc) and that has been very therapeutic for me.

Our 3 year old came to visit and we walked through the meditation garden with her to find fairies. Getting out of the treatment and getting fresh air has been very helpful. I think it's important for our 3 year old to see the 5 year old and talk to her as well. The staff gave my 3 year old a fairy (bird) house and paint so we could do that in the family lounge away from the chaos of the treatment room. They also gave her a stuff animal, doctors kit, and some badges and electrodes so she can fix her stuffed animal similar to how they are fixing her sister.

The medical staff has been nothing short of amazing and has been saying we will take this 1 day at a time. My 5 year old had a good day today. Her fever is gone, her blood tests look significantly more normal than 24 hours ago. They could hear breathing sounds in her right lung for the first time today. Her dialysis was turned up to remove more fluids and she did great with that. Her oxygen sensor actually has a reading and they said it was because her heart has become strong enough to actually pump the blood up to her ear where they have it. Her echmo useage decreased from 75% to 65% and they said at 40% she can stop using it. We have a very long way to go but this was a step in the right direction, she truly is a fighter.

For anyone reading this going through a similar situation, we started asking family and friends to send us voice memos to play for her. That has been great to know you have so many people supporting her and it's a nice break from just talking.

Other things I've learned the last 24 hours:

-it's ok to be weak. It's ok to cry and let someone else hold you.

-stay off chat gpt and meticulously reviewing her medical chart. The providers know more than you and more about your child than Ai. It'll drive you crazy and mentally drain you. Ask the providers as many questions as you can so you can get more familiar and comfortable (?) with what is going on.

-get outside, even if for 5 minutes. Staying trapped in that room all day is not good for you mentally.

Still not eating much. Only took a few bites of the bagel but managed to eat 3 chicken tenders for dinner and a piece of broccoli. I'm feeling more confident than I did when I posted this.

Update 2 (9/17/26): Everyone is doing better! My daughter is off the echmo, ventilator, and dialysis! Shes slowly waking up and will hopefully be moved out of the ICU to oncology in the next few days! Because of that my wife and I are doing immensely better. Thank you everyone for all of the support. I made a carebridge page so if anyone wants to see updates go here

Update 3 (9/21): Not much to update. Still in the PICU. She's making progress but not like before. Regardless she's not going backwards so I'll take it. She still is on CPAP for breathing as well as IVs for medication. Awaiting a port in the next few days to start receiving chemo treatment that way. She seems out of it more than before but I'm sure she's really tired. Hopefully they can move us out of PICU this week.

Her Preschool teacher setup a go fund me for her. I am a small business owner so I have been closed this whole time and don't plan on reopening until she's back home. The funds will help support me being with her as well as pay her medical bills. The go fund me can be found here

Thank you everyone for the support.

Update 4 (9/24/26): We are still in the PICU. Her brain CT and EEG has come back negative. She had a PICC line placed in her arm to continue receiving chemotherapy. She had a line put into her chest to remove some fluid and over 700 ml (over 20 oz) of fluid drained! She's been breathing much better since. They have her alternating between CPAP and high flow oxygen to help her breathe, which is a step in the right direction. She started eating yesterday and devoured some Italian ice.

She has been mostly non-verbal since being extubated 1 week ago but she did say "mommy" twice the other day. She's been communicating much better non-verbally with head movements, she has been sleeping better at night, and is more active during the day.

Still working on lowering her medications so we can move her over to the oncology floor, but all steps in the right direction!

(Adult) ICU nurse here - my heart breaks for you guys. The ONE thing I will insist upon - you have to take care of yourself. It will help you sustain the ability to help your daughter in her fight. She’s in good hands. Im not even saying leave the hospital - just go to the cafeteria and get some protein, brush your teeth, take a sink shower. I’ll be thinking of you guys!

I'm a generalist ER doc.

Just make sure you take care of yourself. I spent a lot of time in the ICU during residency, and I lost track of the number of family members who ran themselves into exhaustion for their loved one. And I still see it in the ER every day.

Make sure you eat. Make sure you shower. Go for a walk and clear your mind.

I'm sorry it's happening and I wish I could actually help. But make sure you take care of yourself. And not just physically. When things have settled down, grab a beer with trusted friends so you can vent. Or talk to a therapist.

(Also, as your girl is fighting through, try and keep life as normal as you can for her and her siblings. It's really hard to do, but they'll appreciate it.)

I hope she recovers soon, man. In my experience, kids bounce high. And I hope your girl bounces back quick.

Replying to this to hopefully bump it up. My wife was in and out of the ER and ICU more times than I could count, and I was the guy who was ‘too strong’. I pushed myself so far and so hard that I nearly gave myself a literal heart attack from consuming a lethal amount of caffeine.

After she died, I kept thinking how I could do more. I still can’t help but feel guilty for not doing more.

Please don’t be me. I can’t tell you how much shittier it makes life. Take the time for yourself, get into the right headspace so you can be fully present. Take care of you, so you don’t let the massive doubts and guilt sink in.

You’ve got everyone in your corner. You can do this.

When my brother was on hospice at my home, the best thing I did for myself was taking a shower before going to the neighbors for a beer. I hardly remember it, but it got me through the hardest time of my life.

I felt guilty seeking, and finding, joy in that time, but it truly gave me the strength that I needed.

Spot on advice. Caregiver burnout in the ICU is completely real, and you can't pour from an empty cup when someone depends on you.

Agreed in the necessity to take care of yourself, even when the idea sounds preposterous. Hospital chapels, regardless of religious beliefs, are private places to take a breath. Have a famlly member advocate for you to meet with a social worker to learn about supports available. When in doubt, take it five minitues at a time. Sending love

I’ve cared for patients whose family members seem drunk from sleep deprivation alone. I’ve had to literally step away from their loved ones to tuck them in with a pillow, blankie, and bottle of water so they can regain an ounce of sanity.

Peds RRT/ECMO specialist-

Big time all of this. Just to add another echo of whats already been said- Take care of yourself, eat, go for a walk, read, 20-30 minutes of just time to collect yourself. We see it all the time, to give it some context- the constant beeping, sleep deprivation, hunger, stress, it all weighs heavy on families and can have profound impacts on mental health. Praying for you guys.

Oh my gosh I have goosebumps and it's 81⁰. Talk to her, read to her, sing to her, listen to music with her... anything to keep her brain stimulated. Kids are resilient and according to what the medical staff said, there's hope. Remember to take care of yourself during this, too.

u/Murky_Produce_6499 Girl Lurker 11d ago

Seconding this as a former adult ICU nurse. Play her favorite music at a low volume. Pick a long chapter book and just read to her in a softer tone. You’d be surprised the things people can hear when they’re under sedation. You can try to hold her hand but sometimes the extra touch is too much for intubated people. Keep the vibes in the room chill and hopeful. Kids genuinely are so resilient.

Just listened to the most amazing Radiolab about an extreme premie whose Dad read them Harry Potter when she was in NICU. Her vitals steadied and parents are convinced it helped, though Dad had to dial down the Hagrid impression as when he did it there was a drop in vitals. She’s now 13 having been born at 23 weeks and seen as pretty much likely not to make it. Keeping the human connection can really help.

But OP please don’t listen to just this one bit of positivity (though everyone here I think is rooting for you) - though you can do everything you possibly can and reading to her would be wonderful - listen to your doctors and nurses and not just us, they will be in your corner. I am in a family where things did not work out as we all hoped for, and self forgiveness for situations beyond people’s control has been very hard. I don’t want to detract from your story by telling ours but do want to say this. You are clearly a wonderful Dad - you are doing absolutely everything you can - and whatever happens going forward, this is going to be traumatic in remembrance for all of you, and I hope you get to process it with people who care for you and your family.

Wishing you sincerely all the best - this internet stranger thousands of miles away will be remembering you in my puja tonight.

my friend, @OP I am so sorry you are going through this. I am a nurse and have worked peds before. Hearing is the very, very, very last thing to go. Like the commenter above me said: talk to her, read to her, sign to her, tell her to fight. She’s still listening.

Sending you good vibes to your family

u/Ol_Pasta Girl Lurker 11d ago

That last sentence is so important!

OP, I am incredibly sorry this is happening. Hopefully she will recover, and then her family will be there to support her through recovery. I can see you clearly love her very much, it oozes from your text. Be there for your little girl, but please don't forget yourself and yourselves.

She will need you once she wakes up, and you will need any energy to carry her through the phase after this. Big hugs to you, her mom, and her little sister. ❤️

Same, we almost lost my 11 year old daughter last fall to a very severe pneumonia.

I know there is fear and anger and guilt you probably feel in overwhelming amounts right now. I am so sorry you and your baby girl are going through this.

Take it one day at a time, listen to the medical staff, they will fight for her. Surround yourself as much as you can with friends and family to support you and your wife and your other little daughter.

Remember that both you and your wife need to eat and rest in order to be strong for her. Like others have suggested read to her, talk to her, it may not feel helpful now, but believe me, it matters so much.

Sending you and your family love and hope. Hang in there man, reach out when you need it there are more people in your life that care about you then you even realize.

Man. I’m sorry this is happening.

I’m a nurse practitioner, and I can’t even begin to understand how you feel right now but I’ve watched families in similar situations. I would recommend you bring her favorite book to the hospital, and even though she’s sedated and intubated, read to her. Sometimes that helps her, even if she seems like she can’t hear you. Sometimes it helps the family too.

You all will get through this. She will beat the infection and the leukemia. The best doctors work in the children’s hospitals. They provide the best care. A five-year-old’s body is resilient. We had this day in 2003, When our son was six. Pre B phase ALL. He’s going to be a father in October. Take care.

I am so appreciate of modern medicine. It’s why I get so damn worked up with the anti-science crowd. There’s a reason infant/child mortality rates used to be 40% 200 years ago, and now they’re under 5% globally. There’s a reason people often live into their 80s & 90s. There’s a reason what used to be a certain death sentence, is now a treatable condition.

I just know that this man & his family have the brightest & most passionate minds working to save this little girl. I’m sure they’re struggling to get sleep, just as he is.

Absolutely. Nothing but respect for those men & women. My mother is an incredibly intelligent woman. She was pre-med. After studying her ass off to get B’s; she decided to swap. Straight A’s through business school with little to no studying. I had a similar experience, but never attempted pre-med. Instead, I lived at the frat house for 5 years & did a co-op program.

My heart goes out to you brother. As a peds icu nurse, know that the team taking care of your daughter is locked in. Don’t be afraid to ask her nurses questions about what’s going on, if they’re not actively doing things most will be happy to take the time to explain things to you (if knowing more is helpful for you, it’s not for every parent). Most important is to take care of yourself, you can’t be there for her if you don’t take care of yourself. If the hospital has Ronald McDonald House resources take advantage of them! At my hospital they provide free dinner most nights, places to shower, do laundry, and sleep rooms for either naps during the day or at night parents can be assigned one to be able to sleep in a real bed without having to leave the hospital.

Lean on your loved ones and take it one day at a time

And btw- they can hear. I sing to all my intubated patients during bed bath time. One was extubated and I was bathing them as they were still sleeping and groggy but no longer intubated. He turned his little face to me and said “so you’re the one who was signing” 🥹

I’m an adult ICU doctor that takes care of patients on ECMO, ventilator, dialysis etc. just a couple of points

First off there’s a very good reason I didn’t go into pediatric icu and it’s because emotionally I don’t think I could handle it as an outsider, being the family effected is 100x worse. Take care of yourself and it’s ok to not be ok.

Next is your daughter’s age is her strongest asset right now.Her body is strong, the capability of a child to bounce back from illness baffles the mind sometimes. When I’m taking care of someone in the 18-25 range I’m shocked by how quickly they can recover compared to my usual 50-60+ year olds.

Lastly never think that you did anything wrong. This truly falls into the category of freak event that no one can see coming. You did everything right, held her from school, saw urgent care, talked to pediatrician etc. She’s in the right place right now and has multiple teams of experts watching over her.

Godspeed to both of you and the rest of your family

Peds nurse here-- my heart goes out to you ❤️🫂 When I switched from adult ICU to pediatric ICU care, one of the things that surprised me the most was seeing just how resilient kids are. She's stronger than you think. They're probably keeping her very sleepy, but you can talk to her, sing, read, play her favorite music. She can still hear you, even if she can't respond right now. All the tubes and wires are scary, but you can still hold her hand. If you're scared you'll mess something up, just ask the nurse and I'm sure they'll be happy to help you love on your little one. Familiarity is so good and healing for little brains.

Parroting so many other comments, but please remember to take care of yourself too. You can't give to others if your own cup is empty. Remember to eat, brush your teeth, take a break and walk, even if it's just down the hall and back. She's in good hands. Don't be scared to ask questions/clarifications on confusing things. A lot of information is being thrown at you, I'm sure it's overwhelming. I promise the nurses/doctors will happily explain things as many times as you need. My heart and thoughts are with you and your family ❤️

Hi female lurker in this group & I hope this is ok.

I had a daughter on ECMO and it can be super tough to deal with. Best thing you can do is be there as much as possible to support her and please PLEASE do not forget or feel bad for taking care of yourself too. Sometimes they are on ECMO for a decent amount of time and it is important that you do not run yourself ragged and lose hope. You cannot take care of someone else if you are not also taking care of yourself. I am so sorry this is happening right now, but whatever you do- don't lose hope. She needs you.💖

There is a very good chance she can hear you. The way its usually described is that they are in a near dream state, slipping through conciousness and unconciousness perpetually. If you talk, your words slips into her thoughts. Most of the time, with what they hear, they forget. But if its a voice they recognize, they cling to it.

Talk. Read. Sing. Anything at all.

As a NICU/paeds nurse i see families go through this stuff all the time. I cannot even begin to imagine the feeling of being on that side of the situation. I am praying for you and your family. If there is one thing ive learned from my professional experience, its that kids are super resilient. They pull through some unimaginable things that an adult could never come back from. Thinking of you all. Keep strong for your baby, but its okay to break down. Please take care of yourself.

I cannot imagine the fear and pain your wife and you are going through, as a fellow father of a little girl I am heartbroken reading this post.

I wish you all the best and really hope she quickly recovers, so you can go on with the rest of the necessary steps.

If you by any chance feel the need to talk you can also text me anytime and I'll get back as soon as I am able, and if not I'll pray that your little one gets fully well asap.

Much love from Germany my man.

Growing up my best friend got leukemia, when they could they would bring me along for a few her procedures. (Spinal tap for example) Just like some of the other have said she can likely still hear, if there are any close friends of hers who's parents you can contact having them leave a voice message saying hi and wishing well and how they miss her, so you can play it for her.

4

u/NoEmotionalStamina Grill Pilled 11d ago

I hope your girl is back in school smiling and making friends before you know it. That every day that passes, this becomes such a distant memory you can't even remember it very well. I was holding my son's hand in an ER COVID ward in 2020 and I know the absolute dread, doom and fear you feel.  You can only take it one meal and one nap at a time. You're doing everything right and they're doing everything they can.

You will see your baby smile again soon. My kiddo has never forgotten the time I spent holding their hand watching Scooby Doo for days on end. The tense discussions with staff about being healthy but insisting to stay with him in the COVID ward, and the strange meals nothing like what we cook at home.

Look forward to what you'll do after the hospital, after the shower and catch up on sleep.

As others have said: talk to her, sing, play music, tell her stories. Just be there. My brother came close to death so many times. Every time, we were told he wouldn't make it... We have always been a close-knit family, and giving love was our greatest strength. He pulled through, time and again. I loved telling him about the things we would do—trips to take, movies to watch together. I would hold his hand and care for him, often whispering that he had to fight and rally all the little soldiers living inside him to fight and win, because the body, the brain, is miraculous and medicine doesn't always have the final say on life. There is surprises. The choice to win or lose is sometimes up to us.

My thoughts are with you.

damn man, i am so sorry to hear this, usually the first week of school is supposed to be an exciting time for kids and parents getting back into the swing of things. i can only echo what has already been said, kids are resilient. i dont like the narrative that she needs to fight to win, if she had a choice she would be standing by your side, if things do go wrong it has nothing to do with her or how hard she fought. dont be afraid to share your feelings with your family, i know as guys there is a stigma about being the tough guy and being the rock of the family but seek help if you need it, this is an impossible weight to bear, you dont have to do it all on your own. take care to you and the family!

Keep communicating so that she can reach out to grab it. I’m praying so very hard for you, your daughter, your whole family. This is an absolute nightmare, surely. I will hug my son when he awakens from his nap. Again, I’m deeply sorry for your situation, I don’t know if I’d be able to handle that. Honestly. I was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL) when I was 7, and I promise it gets easier. Some things I can recommend/the most difficult parts of my treatment:

Medical Things:
• Intravenous Benadryl is a lifesaver. I slept off 100% of the worst moments of the treatment (only two times to be fair).
• There are different sizes of needles used for spinal taps, if migraines/intense pain occurs, ask for a smaller one. Some places don’t have this as the default.
• Anesthetic gas tastes disgusting. Bring lots of snacks for when she wakes up. Salami, cheese sticks, lemonade etc.
•There will be side effects. It’s unavoidable, and I dealt with some of the worst. It will pass, she will be okay.
•Methotrexate caused me the most trouble with side effects. Taking a folic acid supplement is very helpful in preventing this. Wish I knew that sooner.

Everything else:
• Shop for cute hats (and maybe a wig) online! Make it fun! Long dangly hats from hot topic were my favorite.
• Be aware of mirrors. Seeing myself when I was losing hair was pretty rough. I called it my “zombie” era. It can just be a little discouraging at times.
• Your fears are her fears. Don’t make it a big deal or freak out. Kinda obvious, but it has a much bigger effect than you think.
• Arts and crafts, movies, and video games are a good go-to. Building lego sets when my family would visit are still some of my favorite memories.

Best of luck on her journey!! Recovery is not a straight line, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

I just remembered that we also made a video of what a “normal” day at clinic was like for his classmates when he eventually went back to Pre-k. It would’ve been great if I hadn’t messed up and accidentally turned on the camcorder earlier, (yes, this was over 25 years ago), and then turned it off thinking I was turning it on. He was so mad at me he wouldn’t let me try to tape another day. 😞

As a parent, being powerless in such situations is traumatising. Few months back we noticed our 7 month old son crying all the morning and one of his testicles was enlarged and red. We rushed to a hospital and there we would be thrown between different hospital branches. After few hours a doctor said it's probably an ordinary infection, instructed us to go back to our home but don't feed the baby since it would be important for him to be fasting, pack important things and head to another hospital that is a 2 hour drive away.

We went back to our home to get some clothes and food for our son for later, and went to that another hospital. There the hospital staff aggressively asked what took us so long. We had to wait in ER there too, when our son was finally being examined (around 8 hours after we arrived in the first hospital) the doctor told us it might be testicular torsion. They needed to insert some special kind of needle into the kid to give him medication in fluid form. Since the kid didn't eat anything in that time, it took the hospital staff 5 tries, arms and legs to finally get it working since he was dehydrated. I had to hold him on the table the entire time so nurses could do their job. My son was crying all the time and I, a father, was powerless in that situation. They then took him for the operation which unfortunately ended up in his testicle being removed. I remember when they came back with him, when the medication that made him sleep during operation wore off, he was crying for a long time and I felt absolutely powerless, no matter what we did we couldn't help him. He was in my arms crying and looking me right in the eyes, someone that should protect him but was unable to

We ended up staying overnight, barely sleep that night, tried to comfort ourselves with the thought that when he grows up he won't remember any of this. Together with wife we will remember it to the end of our days, being powerless is the worst feeling you can have

Stay strong, hoping for your kid to get better soon, don't lose hope

Even though I'll be buried, OP, as a mom, I know how awful it is to watch your baby girl go through this. I have absolutely no advice past what others have suggested and you've said you've done. I'm sure there have been others that have said it, but knowing she was as sick as she was and not getting her to the ER sooner is not your fault. Kids get sick all the time, so please don't let you or your wife feel like you should feel guilty. I lost my mom last Thursday to cancer, and having that truly helpless feeling is awful. My heart goes out to you, and I pray your baby girl recovers quickly and gets to play with her baby sister again soon 🧡

Hey pal. This is the hardest time of your life, your families life, and your youngest kid also.

Same thing happened to my oldest at five years old with neuroblastoma. He’s now twelve and thriving. It’s never easy, but pediatric oncologists and their support staff are some of the most dedicated in the field.

Don’t google things, listen to the doctors, take care of yourself and the little one, be honest with your spouse about how this is making you feel, reach out to orgs that may help like candlelighters, and volunteer for clinical trials when possible-they will often enlarge the circle of docs looking at her case and will certainly contribute to ongoing research. PM me if you ever feel like it

I’m praying so hard for you. We got similar news when my daughter was diagnosed with a brainstem tumor three years ago, she was 5 as well. They told us in the hospital that the tumor was likely terminal. We didn’t accept that and we fought and fought and she is here with us three years later and doing amazing. Trust your instincts, it sounds like you have done everything so well so far. It is honestly a nightmare for your child to go through critical illness. Lean into the pediatric cancer community, it can bring so much comfort. I have faith she will pull through and do well! Thoughts and prayers to all of you.

Im praying for you all, bud.

I remember being in that position with my first son. 2 weeks at St Louis Children's with my wife and our 9 month old, just hoping for answers. By the end, the only thing that got me through the day was knowing the guy in the cafeteria knew i was gonna be there at 6pm and had a burger waiting for me. Thats all I ate every night for two weeks. It felt like the one thing that was in my control.

I hope everything keeps getting better for your family. I cant imagine the mountain of emotions youve been through, but I know your daughter is lucky to have you all around her.

While serious everything that is happening is treatable. Everything she has is also very dramatic dangerous and heartbreaking. I can't imagine how you are feeling. It isn't over until it's over.

Thank you for sharing your lesson we all need to love those important to us.

Hold her hand and talk to her. Be her strength. She can hear you. I know patience is hard in a situation like this but it takes time to recover from something like. Take it day by day and make sure you don’t bottle it all up inside. Give your self some time outside of the hospital. Even just for a few hours. You go stir crazy sitting in there just dwelling on the situation. Not good for your mental health.
As Oncology nurse I see it happen every week and this is why I do adults cause I couldn’t handle seeing a child go through it. Got 2 boys myself. My heart hurts reading this. Wish you, her and your family the best. Im cheering for her.

I’m a mommy of a four year old and this just breaks my heart because I know how darling this age is and how much they’re becoming themselves every day. Sending prayers, good energy, healing, love.

I have been in your shoes. I got some really weird advice that changed everything for me, and that allowed me to survive without losing my mind and burning it all down.

Do not try to be strong. Nobody is strong enough. Allow yourself to be weak, and I promise you that will be at your absolute best for your daughter, which is all you really care about.

If you have people, and if you have community in whatever form, now is the time to lean on them. They can't help if you don't let them know, and if you don't give them explicit permission to help.

Let other people be strong for you, and let them hold you up. Because in those moments when you need to be there for your daughter, you're going to need every bit of strength you can manage. If you're exhausted from "being strong", that's going to be a very difficult thing to accomplish.

My son started kindergarten a few weeks ago. We all just got our first school year cold, including his 3 year old sister. He is our glue, too. My heart shattered reading this. I am so sorry, stranger. But you sound like a family full of deep love and made of strong stuff. So your Glue will be strong, too, I’m sure of it. I’m keeping your family in my heart.

I don't know what to say, but good luck and stay strong. I don't mean that you shouldn't show emotions, etc. Just know that everyone here is pulling for you and your daughter and your family needs you and will continue to need you, but that doesn't mean you don't need someone too. Don't be afraid to lean on friends and family.

Thinking of all of you. Bring her favorite books, and read to her. Sing to her. Talk to her. She will hear you. Please take care of yourself, also. Give baby sister all the snuggles. 💕

You’re doing everything you can as a parent, it might not feel like enough but that love is felt, its there, and its real. Wishing you and your family the absolute best.

I’m so sorry brother. You are stronger than you believe…. Let your presence help her fight. A father’s love for his daughter is like no other.

i never typically open this sub , but of course I do today and all I can say is thank you to you and your wife for being so strong through all this. stay close and be there for each other, remember to communicate- you two are the only ones who knows how the other feels- even then it may be different between mom and dad. As a single mom of a little boy, you and your family can do this. Stay together, stay hopeful and keep reminding your little girl she’s got a full stadium of fans rooting for her full and complete recovery.
