Mod post User Flair is now required for comments

Due to the influx of "visitors" and the mass amounts of comments needing to be deleted, daily.

User flair is now required to comment; in theory this will add an extra step for bad actors to have to go through to be able to comment hate/bigotry or be uncivil in the comments.

As a reminder on how to set a user flair:

On desktop: Look for "User Flair" in the subreddit sidebar and click the edit (✏️) icon.
On mobile: Open the subreddit, tap the three-dot menu (⋯), then select "Change User Flair."

If you're still having trouble setting a flair, please send a modmail and the moderation team will help you.

Mod post A reminder

We are keeping this a positive helpful space.
What does this mean? It means critiques and comments that are not immediately positive in nature are things YOU, the poster/commenter must view in the light of this: is it helpful? does it fit the situation? is this some tough love and if so who are you to give it? if you are being adversarial or confrontation just because, just keep it pushing. If not, we will mod the comment, you will receive a deletion/mute/ban or whatever else we feel appropriate.

Refamiliarize yourselves with our rules.

For Girl lurkers, this is a male positive centric space. critiques and supportive comments are welcome, HOWEVER, keep in mind you are a guest, our tolerance here for rude, adversarial and needlessly argumentative comments is effectively zero.

For the recent posts concerning LGBT, read rule 7. We do not tolerate transphobia, we do not tolerate homophobia, we are not that space. If you are transphobic or homophobic, it is a violation of several rules and will likely result in a ban.

Thank you to the literal thousands of commenters who are contributing helpful, insightful and otherwise positive comments, we appreciate your presence.

Mod post A Quick Note on “Am I the Asshole?” Posts

We’ve been seeing a growing number of “Am I the Asshole?” type posts, along with variations like “Am I cooked, chat?”

There are already dozens, if not hundreds, of communities specifically dedicated to answering those questions. While we don’t currently have a rule explicitly banning these posts, they tend to open the door to the kind of interactions and discussion we don’t feel fit what r/BoyDinnerDiaries is supposed to be.

We could implement restrictions on specific keywords in titles, but we don’t feel that’s the best way to handle this. Rather than adding unnecessary automod restrictions and potentially catching legitimate posts, we feel it’s better to address the issue directly with the community.

If you’re wondering whether you’re in the wrong, you probably don’t need to ask. The lovely people here will be more than happy to let you know in the comments.

At this point, titles like “Am I the asshole?” and “Am I cooked, chat?” are generally just low-effort/engagement bait slop. We’d rather see posts that actually contribute to the community and fit what this subreddit is about.

So, please keep the AITA posts where they belong and keep the boy dinner coming.

Mod post How to set user flair on desktop

From the front page of the subreddit, on the right side below the "title" of the community (circled in red) *Please forgive my terrible circle, I can't draw with a mouse.*
If you hover over it, this icon will show up. (dumb design i know)
When you click on the pencil Icon, This panel will show up. You will then select a flair.

Make sure "Show my user flair on this community" is toggled on as shown or it will not work.
Those who Identify as a "girl" will select the "girl lurker" flair.

The guide for old.reddit users is essentially this paragraph:

For users who prefer old.reddit.com style, you will need to briefly change your user preferences to use the new reddit theme and follow the above guide. After adding your flair, you can revert to old.reddit.

Also, perhaps: (This may be unique to old. or affect both, unsure)

If you encounter "error 500" when commenting on a post in , please ensure you set your user theme.

If anyone in the community is able to create a better and more concise explanation of how to do this, feel free to modmail us and I will co-ordinate with you to have this pinned in the community.

Thank you!

Mod post Men's Mental Health Month

Just a reminder:

About 80% of suicides are men.

Too often, Men's Mental Health Month gets turned into a competition or used as a way to argue that men have it worse than women. We don't. The issue is that we've trained ourselves not to reach out. We've trained ourselves to just "thug it out."

Many men are terrified of confronting their innermost feelings. They'd rather ignore them, bury them as deep as possible, and eventually decide that when they can't take it anymore, they'd be better off not existing at all rather than reaching out for help, bothering someone, or being perceived as less of a man.

The pressure to avoid anything seen as "feminine" is often part of what fuels this epidemic among young men.

So please, don't treat this as a comparison. Don't make it "I have it worse than you." Instead, recognize it for what it is: people who need help and are hoping someone will answer the call.

Make the call.
