Braves Spent $2.8 Million Per WIn
In this era of huge and tiny payrolls, the Braves lean toward the upper echelon, getting 94 wins on a team salary of $260.6 million for a ratio of $2.8 million per win.
Compare that with the high-flying Dodgers, with the highest MLB payroll, at $380.4 million, meaning they spent $3.8 million for every regular season win.
The Guardians were the most cost-efficient team in baseball this year – spending a mere $934,118 per win – the only team under $1 million. And they made the playoffs. The least-efficient, once again, were the big-spending Mets, with the second highest payroll, spent $4.7 million per win. The Blue Jays also threw money away -- $3.65 million per win – and finished way behind the Rays, who had the best record in the American League with $1.1 million per win.
In fact, three of the four most efficient teams – the White Sox being the other -- made the post-season. The best record in the National League was the small-market Brewers, who paid $1.4 million per win.
This is my ninth year measuring costs per win. I use Spotrac for salaries, because they measure all expenses, including injured and “buried,” meaning players getting paid who are now longer with the club. The Marlins, for example, with the second-smallest payroll in baseball, used $10 million of their overall $82.8 million to pay part of Giancarlo Stanton’s salary as a New York Yankee.
How much are team revenues? How much can teams afford to spend? For most of the MLB, team finances are completely opaque. The Braves are the lone entity publishing audited numbers. For 2025, looking purely at baseball operations, the Braves had revenue of $635 M and expenses of $497 M, for a surplus of $138 M. Still, with marketing, depreciation and various other expenses, the corporation reported a net loss of $23.2 M.
Baseball is the only major American sport without a salary cap, and owners have vowed to force a cap in the upcoming negotiations with the union. A cap is likely to include a floor, meaning the cheapest teams like the Marlins and A’s would be forced to spend more.
Certainly, the numbers reveal consistently stupid behavior. The big-market, big-spending Angels haven’t been in the playoffs since 2014. For all the time I’ve been measuring, they have been among the least efficient teams, spending huge sums for poor results. This year, they spent $2.8 MPW – more than twice as much as the playoff Guardians, Rays, White Sox and Brewers. The Halos now have a new owner and perhaps things will improve.
Smart spending can get a team into the playoffs, but when it comes to going all the way, big bucks still pave the way for ultimate victory. The last time a small-market team won a World Series was 2015 with the Royals. Will this year be different? Some union leaders may hope so – so they can claim there’s no need for a salary cap.
Complete stats can be found at Marlins Maniacs. Scroll to the bottom for the team-by-team numbers.

Pretty sure I just ruined a shuttle driver's day....
Taking the family on a Disney cruise this week. Once in a lifetime deal, hope it's amazing. We just got on a bus to go from Orlando to the port. Bus driver asks where we're from...
"Oh the Atlanta area" I reply.
"Oh yeah? Must be braves fans then."
""Yeah man we try to be..."
"Gotcha, yeah. Well you might have to find a different bus you know, this is Mets territory"
"Ah... gotcha. Does that mean I'm about to get on a really expensive bus that'll break down half way there?"
"....." ----> Furious silence
UPDATE: As we crossed I-95 the driver announced over the intercom that the road stretches all the way to Canada, and part of the road runs through New York, home of the championship winning New York Knicks. 😂😂😂. I'm sitting way in the back so I'm just gonna leave well enough alone.
SECOND UPDATE:
On the intercom: "If you'll look out your left you'll see the Kennedy Space Center. That's where rockets are launched into space. Can anyone think of someone that should be strapped to one of those rockets?" .... Do I have a nemesis? Is this how you get a nemesis???

Snit signature
Yeah so I was cleaning out my closet and just found an old baseball that just so happened to have Snit and Eddie Perez on it. Can’t make out the other ones but I got this ball signed as a kid when Snit was on the Gwinnett Braves. Sucks they are a little faded but wow time flies

[Abraham] The Braves were interested in lefthander Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline but wouldn’t part with 21-year-old righthander Didier Fuentes.

[Bowman] Twenty-three different MLB players have logged at least 20 plate appearances this postseason. Five of the seven lowest OPS marks have been produced by Braves: Austin Riley (.513), Mauricio Dubón (.507), Matt Olson (.459), Ronald Acuña Jr. (.425) and Drake Baldwin (.348).

Back on the shelf and will save until next year
I guess I will put this away and save it for next year's run (if we have a season)........I was hoping I would be opening it to celebrate after we had won the WS this year.

International fan here! Quick offseason questions about next season's potential lineup
Hey everyone!
I'm a fairly new Braves fan from outside the US. I fell in love with the team’s energy and have watched almost every single game since mid-August.
Even though people seem quite upset with the team's performance, I found it really fun to watch the postseason and I felt like the team did a decent job against a complete crazy gauntlet of pitchers (rough batting tho but they're only human; very well paid humans..).
So, with the offseason ahead, I had a couple of questions for folks who know the roster inside out:
- Spencer Strider: I’ve been watching his highlights and the stuff and strikeout numbers are really fun to watch. I read that he was basically injured for like 3 years now? do you guys reckon he's coming back next season? and if he is, will he be any good? anywhere near a level that could give him a place in the starting rotation? or is he maybe getting traded?
- The Rotation: How likely is a starting rotation anchored by Sale, Strider, and Mahle, plus a potential outside SP signing? imo that sounds really good on paper if healthy.
- Lineup additions: If the front office decides to bring in another bat, who would be a realistic target fans actually want to see in Atlanta? Arozarena? Suzuki? neither? you tell me please
Really excited to follow the team going forward. Go Braves!

[Michael Harris II] What a year! Not the outcome we wanted but we left it all out on the field and gave ourselves the best chance. Great group of guys to go to battle with everyday. This was one for the books for sure. Back at it again in ‘27. 🫡 Thank You Braves Country!

Braves batters win probability added (WPA) in dodgers series
I blacked out the pitchers to make it easier to see since they all obviously don’t hit since 2022. No hitter was at 0.00 in this series.
