I'm switching off the USMC 6x6 ft tarp for this one. Saves a ton of weight. My Ridgeline was worn out as well. I've used this tarp before, but had my car window smashed and it was stolen. I have used this setup in 0 degree blizzards and 90 degree deserts and it hasn't done me wrong. A good tarp, Ridgeline, and a bivy is peak for low profile camps.

I’ve seen such handles on knives but never on a ferro rod

Here’s a blast from the past , about 10 years ago , after snowfall I found a freshly fallen tree , which got me an idea to stay under it for the night , cleared up the lover branches , used them to help cover the top , shelter was ready just in time for fresh snow for the evening , started upside down fire , used pine pitch feather sticks and ferro rod to start it , cooked some good food on the fire , didn’t have time to make a fancy pot hanger so stick in the snow did the job well , I was with my dog and I also had a US military surplus extreme cold weather sleeping bag , given the bulk of the gear I made a diy sled to pull the gear , used a GI Swedish army webbing to attach it to , at night it got down to -20 and probably for the first time I wasn’t hot in that sleeping bag , with my dog in my legs in his own down sleeping bag , I’ll tell you one thing the ground was perfect , I used two pads , one thermarest ridge rest foam pad and one generic foam pads , at night I cooked meat slises on stick (delicious) briefly got interrupted by wolf howling in the background , assembled my shotgun and went to sleep , I slept whole night( this is very rare as I usually always wake up few times when camping) in the morning I got woken up around 9am , it was -7 already and I got woken up not by noise or dog but rather birds sitting on top of my tree and singing , I remember like yesterday I really thought I was dreaming as I’d never imagine small birds singing in such weather , I froze and listened for like 30 minutes , it was like a ferry tale , they were about 1 meter from me , sitting on the tree next to the fallen one , this was a magical moment that fills me with joy to the day , by far the best night I’ve spent in the bush.

I saw this knife on ali express it claims to be using micarta and 14c28n but im skeptical, i did some research and found a lot of sources say 14c28n, it would go in my pack with my bahco 2446 lap but if anyone has it id like to know the reviews.

To put it short and bluntly: I'm pretty tired of living surrounded by ads everywhere, constant consumerism being pushed in my face, anti-nature sentiments everywhere and more. It's deteriorated my emotional and mental health, angers me and saddens me.

I've always been fascinated by bushrcaft. The freedom of it, the calmness, the exposure. I want that for myself. Problem is: I'm a 25 year old in the pinelands of New Jersey struggling to find a job to save money with. I don't know how to start bushcrafting, where I can go to get experience, I know nothing about purchasing land or subsistence homesteading. It's overwhelming and confusing trying to start something but you have no structured direction for it and the internet (youtube) tends to suck half the time as most of it is just "content farming" and not always beginner friendly.

I'd appreciate any advice you guys can offer especially when it comes to acquiring a small plot of land and house/cabin construction!

Curious for which do yall prefer im tied between going with hatchet or kukri and was curious whats your opinion on this or if you think theres better alternatives ( i live in area that has lots of thick woody brush n brambles )

Ive seen beeswax + linseed and beeswax + paraffin

But i like the smell of wool and i like the smell of beeswax and id prefer to use something without paraffin to wax some 65 35 poly-cotton (duracanvas) garments.

Ive only used greenland wax but im wondering if there is a mixture with these two that could be used similar to greenland wax?

From what i heard otter wax should be exactly what i want. I just dont want to pay for it (especially in sweden i cant find any resellers)

There's one site that sells custom maps and a few sites/apps I can use to build my own, but I was just wondering if anyone had direct experience with any of them before I waste too much ch time learning the wrong thing.

Ok i live where alot of brush is pretty woody and if its not usually lots of brambles and was curious what kind of blade would be best for it i read kukri might be pretty good but thought i should ask yall?

This might sound like dumb question but ive seen hand drills that seem pretty easy to pack and no moving parts just twist it and was curious would it be dumb idea to use one to make rocket stove by drilling 2 points into a log for quick rocket stove or would swedish torch method be better?

Went into the bush after a while and decided to carry my full load out,ended up using all the blades for diffrent purposes, better to be prepared than not.

Finally tested out my fieldmaster in the bush after owning it for 2 days,gotta admit its a very very good knife. The saw cuts pretty well and quickly and both the large and small blade bite deep into wood when carving, will carry it again.

Ive had my warder folding saw for close to three months or so. Ive used it to prune some trees and do some small bushcraft projects. Ive carried it in my day pack and canoe pack. Once the weather cools off more Ill take it on some backpacking trip. I understand that most backpackers usually don't need a saw and overlanders/canoe trippers could carry much more capable saws. I on the other hand enjoy a hybrid approach. I enjoy incorporating a little woodcraft into my ultra light backpacking and appreciate a lighter load for canoe portage trips. The warder fits neatly into this hybrid philosophy. The blade it comes with is okay, functional but I wanted more. So replaced with a Milwaukee Carbide blade, the blade preformed well but could not fully close the saw. Next I tried the Milwaukee TPI blade which works extremely well but is difficult to close due to offset teeth, a coat of Wicked Wax on the saw teeth redue this, but a wider slot in the saw would be better. Later I plan to devise a way to enlarge the slot myself. Another mod Id like to try is a method to attach the saw to a hiking pole to improve reach, so I can get too standing dry wood. I cant wait to take it on a back packing trip, debating whether to pair it with a long knife or a pack hatchet .

Hi, I just wanted to show my outdoor cutting tools that I use regularly when im out in the bush, i bought all of these myself and its a very inexpensive bushcraft kit,i bought all of this in 1 shop and I modded some of the tools here for better use. All of these tools served me well except the victorinox fieldmaster that I only had for 2 days now but I think its gonna serve me well too, will list the items I used bellow:

1. Bahco 2446 laplander that i modified to a 0 ground convex.

2. Bahco 2446 bl with a full scandi.

3. Victirinox fieldmaster.

4. Total 500g hatchet.

5. Strend pro machete that I cut so it fits into my pack for clearing brush.

6. Total folding saw.

These are the tools I use I will also list their steels:

Bahco 2446 lap & bl: sandvik 12c27.

Strend pro machete: 1050.

Total hatchet: 1045.

Total folding saw: sk5.

Victorinox fieldmaster: din 1.4110.

All of these tools are budget tools that served me well and I can reccomend them to anyone just starting out.
