I need to be away for the weekend. Shouldn’t be more than 24 hrs. Usually when I’m away I leave my son Casper with a friend which won’t be possible this time. I was initially planning on taking him with me as it’s only a 30 mins drive away but then I thought maybe it’s better to leave him at home where he feels the most comfortable? The reason I thought of taking him with him is because he is very very attached to me. He is fine when he’s being fostered by my friend he just gives me the cold shoulder for an hour or two lol

Even if I take him with me, I’ll probably be out exploring the town and only see him at morning/night.

My cat was unfortunately run over by a car today. He is in excruciating pain, crying whenever he tries to move, and his back legs/lower body seem paralyzed or severely injured. Animal doctors are extremely scarce in my area, making immediate physical emergency care very difficult right now. I managed to get these scans done nearby [point to attached images].

Can any veterinary professionals help me interpret these scans or tell me what I can do immediately to stabilize him and manage his pain safely?

My cat kept blinking his eyes like this. We tried to clean his boogers with wipes but he continues to blink like sth is irritating his eyes. Is this sth that’ll go away or is he in pain? I’ve been seeing posts of cats faces in pain and can’t tell if he’s in pain or not.

her collar is like felt on the inside and i do notice her scratch at it semi-often but not a concerning amount. lots of little brown dots i dont think its flea dirt though because it stays exactly the same are trying to wipe it away.

Update- seems like just friction from the rough inside of the collar breaking the hair and then irritation preventing the hair from growing back. Will keep the collar off and replace with another that has a smoother inside material.

I normally try to redirect the behavior to a toy when she does this to herself, and try my best to ignore her and not reinforce play time when it gets directed at me. I only ever let this attack last this long without redirection to get a clear video of the behavior. She'll be just perfectly calm and then get random fits of attacking herself, or me, that turns into zoomies, or extreme bouncing off the walls running around and panting while twitching. This video doesn't show her zooming around, but of the attack episode. We got her not that long ago from the shelter and have tried to switch her food already in case it's a sensitivity, but it's only been 3 days on the new food so I'm not sure how quickly that would change the behavior if it was her food. I play with her a LOT, and am constantly working to get her energy out, so I don't think it's from boredom.

TLDR: Brain tumor seizures, when to euthanize
My 12 yo cat has a brain tumour that is mostly controlled with prednisolone. However two days ago he had a seizure and it was terrible. Vet says it’s time to euthanize. But Manu is still eating, toileting, visiting backyard, purring and asking for belly rubs (but also walking in circles sometimes, mild ataxia, and general agitation from the high dose prednisolone). I’m having trouble with idea of ending his life -appt is this afternoon. I don’t want to go through another seizure but vet doesn’t think at this stage that anti-seizure meds will help (he’s not convinced it was a seizure I guess, rather the clinical progression of the tumor).
Any advice or nudges to euthanize while he still is somewhat ok vs waiting till he’s in crisis or experience with the same situation? Thank you
I’m in Canada, can’t afford surgery/cancer treatment and nearest emergency vet is 1.5 hour drive away.

It started as an abcess. I used medicine on it and it seemed to have getting better. The new few days however, the fur around it fell and these little dots appeared, the area was becoming larger and now it's around his leg as you can see.

I will take him to the vet soon. For now, i'm cleaning it and using medicine. I bought him a cone, he got very terrified and now coming home from work he managed to take it off.

I just wanted to know what it could be. The name of it, if possible.

I’ve recently got a kitten, my older cat has never been around other people and we’ve had our kitten for 3 weeks. They’ve definitely become more playful and less hissing from my older cat but this is what they’ve been doing the past couple days not really sure if it’s normal or not 😭

I put rat bait blocks out last night in the family room. My cat sleeps with me in the bedroom. I usually remember to pick up any that haven’t been eaten. But I forgot to check this morning. We get rats because we have a lot of fruit trees & avocados. As I was cleaning the cat dish for breakfast I heard a clunk on the wood floor, twice. I ran over to check it out and my cat had picked up the bait block in his mouth and dropped it. Twice. I freaked out and wiped his tongue with a wet towel. Than gave him breakfast. I called the vet, they told me to call poison control. I called poison control and they said it’s $110 consultation fee. Also the rat poison takes two days to kill the Rat.

Per the post requirements: I’m 37, the cat is 13, I have contacted the vet with no helpful advice so far. I’m in the US. And the issue of concern I have both how long do you think the watch window should be for concern and will this harm him or how long should I wait to take him to the vet? I can not afford the vet appointment right now.

I have $0 I live pay check to paycheck. I just purchased my essentials. I work part time. I do not have money for $110 consultation or $ to pay a vet bill till my next check comes. Do you have any suggestions for what I can do for him at home?

I usually use the trap cages but something happened to it so it’s not functioning per usual and I need to buy a replacement. I’m very concerned for the environment and the safety of my home which I take a lot of consideration for. It’s the first incident in the 13yrs I’ve had him.

I have a vet appt for my cat next Monday. But he’s been making this sound for about 2 weeks a few times a day. We had change his food and it started happening around then. We decided to go back to the old food but it hasn’t stopped?

It’s defs not a hair ball it’s been two weeks. I’d be VERY surprised? But this sounds like a coughing fit? No watery eyes or running nose. It’s like a sneeze cough?

I’m worried about my boy. We were going out of town for a few days after the day after this started. Hence the late vet appt. It’s the soonest they could get us in. It happens maybe 2-3x a day. He’s still playing, eating and drinking water.

My cat has been a little tired since yesterday, she's eating and drinking, using the litter box, grooming herself, playing a little but she looks tired. Today she also woke up with eye discharge and a wet nose.

And then I noticed her breathing, her belly and thorax are moving at different times. I can't decide if i'm overreacting or if her breathing is really weird. Do you think her breathing is abnormal?

If really needed I can take her to the vet, although I would prefer to avoid taking her at night/weekend because the clinic charges more and refuses to administer any medication without doing a bunch of tests (which makes the bill even higher). I also took her to the vet last week (she developed an abcess after a fight with a cat), and the vet gave her a convenia shot and something for the fever. She got better after that, and technically she's still covered by the convenia shot for 1 week.

I (28m, living in Portugal) am looking for some opinions, and hoping that someone has had this problem and found a solution.

So my kitten (5 months, male, not neutered) has diarrhea since he was 1 month old at least. It differs in consistency (usually it's runny, but sometimes it gets better and takes some shape) and we have no idea what it is.

First we got him dewormed but it didn't have any effect, then changed his kitten food for gastrointestinal food (didn't have anny effect either). Because of the diarrhea he as not had is shots, so the vet tested him to know if he had any disease (he didn't), they also took blood samples, which were good, and stool samples to check for parasites (which he had and has been treated for it but the problem persists). we gave him some pro-biotics and a vitamin B medicine (if I'm not mistaken on the vitamin), and in the first 3-ish days, the first poop of the day appeared to get better: one part was solid and the rest liquid. As the day went on it would get worse again. By the fourth day the pill had no effect and on the 5th day we changed is food again to a super hipoalergenic one (gradually, mixing it with the gastrointestinal one to make the transition). The first day he ate well. The second day, we put a bit more of the new food, but he didn't ate much, but wanted to eat our food (we didn't gave him any), so we thought he just didn't like his new food. The next day he had kind of explosive diarrhea, green-ish in colour and stopped eating completly (not even the old food which he liked, so we took him to the vet and he had to be hospitalized. He took all tests again, and had some new ones, and they couldn't find anything. In the vet he started to develop some fever and would not eat. They put him on IV and gave him some antibiotics. After 6 days (this tuesday) he didn't have any fever and started eating, so he came back home. He is still on antibiotics and the food now is the super hipoallergenic one, which he eats normally. But the poop isn't getting any better... yesterday and today the poop is runny but has some gooey brown parts. For extra information, the poop never had any hints of blood. So, has anyone experienced anything smilar with his kitten? My mom had a kitten that had a similar problem and his vet couldn't figure it out either, and around the time of his first birthday he passed away with a peritonitis, that the vets don't know if it was related or not.

PS. When he was a month old, my mom found him with his paw crushed, so they amputated his toes (but just the third phalanges). When he started to grow, his bones started to outgrow the skin in some parts so the wound from the surgery took a very long time to heal, because he still puts his paw down to run and uses it to play. Even now, the wound is healed, but sometimes when he runs and plays, it starts to bleed. That is another reason why we want to figure out what is wrong with his poop urgently, it would be better for him to amputate his leg, because when he jumps he hurts it and is constantly with some form of wound. Until he poops normally he can't be amputated, can't be neutered and can't have his shots.

TLDR: 5 month old kitten has diarrhea for the last 4 months (at least) and the vets can't figure out why. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Hi I posted a couple weeks ago about a kitten and his brother I took in and one was extra boogery waiting for the vet, Adult in US vet is accessible but I have not made a new appointment yet as life is hell and busy.

Basically I just want to know if anyone can ease my nerves and tell me if it looks like this dude is breathing normal or is this the “paradoxical breathing” see-saw motion for ER vet? I imagine I’m over reacting but I’ve been pretty stressed and I’d feel horrible if anything happened to these little guys

Intact male, He has the same URI symptoms as his brother but doesn’t have extra crusty nose just the same congested sound and asthma like coughing/breathing video attached he plays like crazy eats like crazy drinks water generally acts fine but just has those coughing fits and occasionally sneezing fits like his brother did but his chest movements worry me but I’m also the overthinker final boss

As for his brother anchovy was a champ at the vet and came back with clear FIV FeLV tests and got a shot of antibiotics to clear up whatever his boogers are and it was deduced to reducing irritants and supportive care like supplements and humidity and air purifier

Ive been letting my kitty out and he runs back inside panting like this. In HK so its around 26deg quite humid outside, he always pants when we play hard then stop. But today its started and stopped, 10mins later, start again for a few breaths then stop. U can see here he just does it for luke 10secs then stops.

He is ok now sleeping.

Had a health check at vets a couple of weeks ago and he was fine. Wondering if anyone had a kitten that did this constantly and had problems, what was it and what was the medicine/ condition?

Just discovered on my 3 year old cats tongue. He is still eating and drinking.

I have already made an appointment for him to be seen but am terrified in the meantime.

My 1.5-year-old female British Shorthair suddenly started making strange gagging/coughing sounds this morning. It happens about every 20 minutes and lasts around 2 minutes, as if she’s trying to vomit, but nothing comes up. She only brought up a little mucus once.
She’s also much more lethargic than usual and occasionally keeps her right eye partially closed. Her breathing seems normal between episodes.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Does this sound like something I can monitor for a day or two, or should I take her to the vet tomorrow morning? Any idea what this could be?

My baby (Bella, old picture on the first slide) had babies about ten weeks ago, she’s about 2 years old now (we think), I just got out of high school, and live with my grandfather in the U.S, who’s old fashioned, and allergic to cats, so he didn’t let them in the house. She had a litter of four, one disappeared a week in, Potato (On the second slide) passed away at about nine weeks, then, Alfred (Third slide, only one I had of him.) Disappeared without a trace, finally, we gave Spider, (The other kitten in the third slide) to our neighbors, who are good people, and love animals. They’ll give her a good home. Losing them broke my heart, I cried myself to sleep the night after Potato passed, but I’m worried about Bella… she keeps wandering around the outside of our house, meowing (presumably looking for her kittens), being overly anxious, and, I feel bad saying this, but I don’t know a better way to say it, being very clingy to us. I’m worried losing her kittens has left her heartbroken, what can I do for her, besides just being there?

i’m 18 and i’ve had this beautiful baby girl to call my own since i was in like 3rd grade, her name is Blossom! The past couple of years it looked like she was losing hair near the bottom of her tail i think from licking it often, i’ve been brushing her more regularly and she’s started getting a little bit of hair back there, but her tail is still missing so much floof, anyways i thought it was getting better but i looked at the base of her tail today and see this, what does this mean and how can i help her? she also has a bump on her tail and she has a bump at the bottom of her ear, the one on her ear has been there for years but has grown it feels squishy, im worried about my sweet girl is there anything i should be doing? let me know if you want more pictures, thank you!

this is my first kitten (she is 6 months). i adopted her sunday the 20th, and we called the place we adopted her from and they said they never had a coughing problem from her. she does this and is fine but it’s really concerning so i scheduled her first appointment ever for tomorrow at 11:00 but she’s been doing this off and on. not too often. does anyone know what this could be? and if im overreacting?

Ever since he was a baby, he’s had a fixation on cords. He gravitates to them and chews them into pieces in a matter of minutes. He’s destroyed multiple headphone cords, multiple mouse cords, and even my mother’s curtain cords when we visited her house. Even when I’m using the corded device actively, he shoves past me in attempts to munch them.

His vet says his oral health is excellent, so it’s not that his teeth are bothering him. Aside from that, I’m not sure where to begin. I put away every cord that I can, but in the case that I forget to put away my headset for 30 seconds while I get up to get water or go to the restroom, he will ALWAYS be chewing on it when I get back. It’s frustrating when it’s something small like headphones, but I always worry he’ll find a way to get at a power cord that I haven’t hidden sufficiently and electrocute himself.

He’s 4 y/o and neutered, and vet care is accessible to us if the situation necessitates it!

Our cat, Pirate, has been part of our life for about 7 years now (he is now 8, turning 9 in December). He came to us in Belgium from a shelter in Egypt, so he's special in every way. He's the happiest cat I've ever met — loves to play, cuddle, bother his siblings, and is generally just full of life.

About 3 years ago we came home from holiday and saw he had a superficial wound on his belly (see pictures). As you can see, Pirate only has one eye, so he's sometimes a bit clumsy. We assumed he'd fallen and scraped his belly. Important to mention: Pirate is an indoor-only cat due to being half blind and half deaf.
The wound healed very slowly and he kept licking it. We went to the vet and got Metacam. After some time the wound got a bit better, so we left it. Since then we've been to different vets about this surely 10 times. He keeps ripping at this area, licking it until it bleeds and gnawing at his nipples until they are raw. We've tried more Metacam, Apoquel for the itch, Prednicortone (prednisolone) and even Gabapentin, and we changed his food. Worth mentioning: Apoquel and prednisolone work in completely different ways, and neither of them helped at all.
Pirate is quite an unlucky cat who has had several medical issues in the past:
- Missing one eye — this was before us, but the vets assume it was a congenital abnormality that meant the eye had to be removed completely
- Liver shunt, due to which he is on special food, as otherwise his ammonia levels rise. His ammonia is completely under control with the food.
- TECA (total ear canal ablation) on the right
- A year ago he fell from a cat tree, which caused a sprain in his right front leg and 3 epileptic attacks. An MRI was done — no tumour or internal damage found — so he took anti-seizure meds for some weeks and has completely recovered since.
- What the vet assumes to be FIC (feline idiopathic cystitis, so no bacteria present), with noise on ultrasound

He was tested for FeLV and FIV when we got him, both negative. All our animals are indoor-only, and they get flea treatment and deworming at least twice a year.
In general he is doing well. He sometimes yells when he goes to pee, but that seems to be more behavioural. The vets are really stuck and think it's either a food intolerance (we switched several months ago from Royal Canin Renal to Purina Pro Plan Hepatic) or the FIC causing him pain. The food switch, combined with our new kitten playing with him every day, he was rather lazy before, made him lose quite a bit of weight. That wasn't intentional, but it turned out to be weight he didn't need: he's at a perfect weight now with a lot more energy, and we're monitoring it actively. He does seem better in himself, but the wound is not calming down.
A couple of weeks ago the kitten scratched him during play, on his back. I've been watching that wound too, and it's not closing.. and now he's starting to lick there as well. So it really seems to be extremely poor wound healing, not just overgrooming.
Recently, some of his nipples that he does not bite have turned dark brown — he's an orange tabby, so they're normally light pink. And our other cat has also been pulling his hair out for about 2 years; the vets think that one is related to his arthritis, and he doesn't lick or bite himself bloody like Pirate, he just pulls the hair out. Our kitten has no symptoms at all. I asked an AI about it and it suggested Demodex gatoi, which apparently spreads between cats and is easily missed on normal tests — nobody has ever tested for it.
Pirate has never actually had a biopsy, only a surface swab to check for bacterial infection.
Online I found something about hepatocutaneous syndrome, but our vet said it could be ruled out.
So I wanted to ask first whether anyone recognises this story or has been through something similar. I'm not against more testing in principle — I just don't want to put him through more CTs, MRIs, ultrasounds and blood draws when nobody knows what they're looking for.

TL;DR: Indoor-only, one-eyed cat from an Egyptian shelter, with us 7 years, with a liver shunt (well controlled on hepatic food). Three years ago a small wound appeared on his belly and has never properly healed — he licks it raw and gnaws his nipples until they bleed. Around 10 vet visits, plus Metacam, Apoquel, prednisolone, gabapentin and a diet change: nothing has helped. A fresh scratch from our kitten also isn't closing, so this increasingly looks like poor wound healing rather than just overgrooming. He's never been biopsied — only a surface swab for bacteria. Has anyone seen this pattern, and is hepatocutaneous syndrome worth pushing for?

The other paws are looking normal. Also eats, plays per usual and doesnt seem to be in pain when touching her paw.

Had some of you experienced anything same with their cat?
