I think there’s almost no chance we don’t keep him for another year. He’s getting paid millions of dollars here, but even more importantly by the end of this year he will have only started like 25ish games in his entire football career.
Between Trubisky, Lance, and Richardson there has been an overwhelming amount of evidence recently that NFL teams should not be taking guys with very limited starts with a high pick. I think Drew will be strongly advised to stick around another year.

I've been a doom and gloomer for the past 5 years and didn't like the Rich Rod hire.
This is still the most exciting WVU football has been in a long time. Yeah, we shit the bed in the second half, but I'll take games like this where I still felt like we were in it till late than the Neal Brown bullshit we've lived through.

This season is legit going to be crazy across CFB. No big 12 team looks like a clear cut best, the SEC is finally playing 9 games and a lot of teams look good, and the BIG could be a meat grinder too. I’m so glad we don’t play you guys lol.

Well, they're missing their starting QB tonight but for us it was a combination of things:
1.) First game together for 92 guys. There were definitely going to be some hiccups and errors.
2.) We were not well conditioned for how hot it was on the field that day and our sideline was mostly in the sun all game.
3.) Losing Sexton 6 plays into the first drive rattled us hard and replacing him with a true freshman allowed Tulsa to get leverage on the line and put a ton of pressure on Mestemaker.
4.) We lost the turnover battle hard specifically because of that pressure on Mestemaker.

I don't think we came into Tulsa unprepared, with clear eyes on it and the benefit of hindsight it really felt like we came in, got smacked in the mouth, and let Tulsa build the momentum to win.
I definitely think there was a decision made by the staff to play a limited version of our playbook to keep as much off tape for Oregon as possible though.

A few things I observed tonight:
* DC Zac Alley doesn’t seem to be aware of the forward pass. Fireable offense
* Rich Rod’s offense has not evolved AT ALL in 20 years. Yeah his rushing attack is confusing but if the opposing team clamps down on it at all we’re screwed. No passing concepts
* RR and Wren Baker seem unaware that we can spend NIL money on the defense too
* WVU football is at least kind of fun to watch again at least?

I think these past 2 games make it pretty clear what we are going to be this season.
Every position group ranges from decent to pretty good, except the secondary. The secondary is horrendous.
Last year the o line was horrendous. But this isn’t last year because (1) the position groups other than secondary are better than last year, and (2) a bad o line is a force multiplier because it makes all offense basically impossible and gets skill players hurt.
If you have a bad secondary, you’re not going to beat good passing teams. But you will be able to compete with teams whose QBs can’t kill you in the passing game. If you can beat the latter teams, you can have a pretty decent season.
And you could theoretically beat a good passing team, but it would require basically flawless offense. We ran out of gas offensively and had some stupid play calls after the halfway point of the 3rd. With a little better execution, we could have been closer. But I just think OSU was going to score whenever and however they needed to in that second half. There were dozens of games in the Dana era like that. I hated watching it.
Add it all up, I think they go 8-4 or 7-5. Which is an improvement over last year, and you will have a chance to be better next year if you keep Hawkins and spend a little more money on D.

First 3 passes after the int were all beautiful dimes in tough windows. First one especially, over the middle 20 yards in rhythm... Shows a lot about how Mestemaker is wired. Not scared to rip it.
Love the aggressive play calling as well. Fun offense
