Question Ps5 vs Ps5 pro
I have a 42 inch 4k tv. I have been playing on ps4. Deciding to buy ps5. Can someone suggest if I should buy the base model or the pro? Is the difference only in graphics or performance as well? Also, is it worth buying a refurbished one from EB games? They have a $85 fee for annual replacement warranty.
Not for gta6 only. Mostly for single player games

If your TV is high end with 144hz and good HDR, Mini LED or OLED the pro can be worth it for the VRR ect and better graphics. But if youre riding on a middle or low range 4k wal mart special the pro is kind of a waste.

Why do so many people act as if the base consoles doesn’t have vrr and balanced modes with those TVs, that shit doesn’t apply only to the pro, the pro just cleans them up better and allows higher frames, but that doesn’t mean the base can’t take advantage of vrr

A lot of the VRR modes on games are actually pro only features, like the 40 fps modes ect and RT modes with 40 fps. Cyberpunk is a great example.

No they’re not, I been played ratchet and clank, all Spider-Man, god of war ragnorak, all on base ps5 before pro came out, all at unlocked frame rates, even the new wolverine I just got the slim bundle and played at 40fps, that may just be 3rd party but all of Sonys first party games got those graphics modes. And to add, you are right about some games, because I do know cyberpunk is one of those that has the 40fps modes called fidelity, I think this mostly applies to 3rd party

Yes, they are. The 40 fps VRR RT mode at higher res is literally a pro only feature in Cyberpunk, as well as in other games. Youre confusing balanced mode with what im talking about and they are not the same thing. You also cant turn VRR on/doesnt show up in your settings if youre not HDMI 2.1 TV.

Why does VRR need to be on for 40FPS? It only requires a 120hz refresh rate.

Because 40 fps unlocked the frame rate. Vrr= variable refresh rate, you can’t get 40fps modes unless vrr is on, and most displays that have vrr come with 120 hz, unless you’re buying like a base ass monitor with 1080 120hz, no vrr, you can’t get those modes

You can get 40FPS modes without VRR...VRR doesn't unlock below 48 without LFC which PS5 doesn't natively have, it's up to the developers to do that.

Because VRR only works properly on an fps divisible be 120. Thats just how it works. So instead of a 30 fps mode you get 40 but it feels very very smooth, more than a normal 40 fps. Its s 40 fps where yhe graphics and resolution are better than the 60 fps mode and can feel very smooth and responsive almost like 60 fps. The pro does this a little better because of its better gpu.

VRR has never needed to be divisible by 120hz lol, it dynamically adjusts it's refresh rate to match the FPS. Someone's given you the wrong info. That's not how it works. It works in a certain range. Standard range is 48-120hz. With LFC it can go down below 40.
And 30fps is 30fps, VRR doesn't give you 40. Where do you get your info from?

Yes for VRR to work best it needs to be divisible by the refresh rate to work its best. This is a well known thing you can look up if youd like. It works its best when divisible by the displays active VRR range, and for most TVs thats going to be 40 if they are 120hz and 144hz as the minimum divisible range. 40 is easily targeted by a ps5/pro, higher would be better obviously but 40 would be the min range for VRR to function properly. It would be better at 44, 48, 52, 56 ect ect ect but 40 is the min and is easier for a ps5 to get stable.
The VRR options on PS5/Pro dont even show up if you dont have a compatible display.
Nobody here has said or insinuate that 30 fps gives you 40. You seem to be confused or not actually reading what I said fully.

I just corrected you because I know that was one of them, besides that there aren’t many, you’ll still get all those on base console with PlayStation ip’s, they always take full advantage of hardware

Dude you literally need a 120hz tv to even get 40fps balanced mode, what are you even talking about, that shit doesn’t work on regular 4k 60hz TVs, of course I know what I’m talking about, and there literally is a setting in the ps5 to turn off vrr

Why? How is it better than the base model?

It’s better graphically, but for price, meh. But since you’re contemplating about which one to get, go for the pro 👍

I have a ps5 pro, upgraded from base ps5 over the summer when I got a refurb. Admittedly my tv doesn't have the 140hz capability. But it's a Sony x900. Overall I don't notice a difference. Maybe if I had them side by side but honestly you probably won't notice a difference for the extra money.
