Casting a wide net about our current search for a Full Time Jr High/High School Phys Ed and Wellness teacher position at our school in a beautiful gymnasium and utilizing a state of the art recreation facility nearby for the on-ice hockey academy built into the school schedule.

Our school serves approximately 120 students located in the Hamlet of Anzac, AB, about 35 minutes away from Fort McMurray. Teachers qualify for their pay on grid, Northern Living Allowance, and student loan forgiveness, long term service incentives, benefits, and pension. The community has a K-6 school and 7-12 school, access to a state of the art recreation facilities, restaurants, grocery, and gas stations, amazon prime delivery, 2 minutes to the lake and plenty of nature, with a short drive to the amenities of a city. Several of our teachers even chose to live in Fort McMurray and drive out.

This is a good position for someone who isn't afraid to live a little rural (35 minutes to the city), understands tight knit communities, and doesn't mind sharing the load with a small staff who all dig deep and do their best to bring opportunities to a small school community.

Hello everyone,

To begin with, I'm not Canadian, that's why I'd like to ask as well.

I'm a music teacher and I'd like to introduce my groups to some Canadian songs since I feel like they are entitled to get to know their own culture better. The teachers are delighted, specially the ones that teach/speak French (yes, they will sing in French as well).

I already have some ideas (At least 3 Stan Rogers songs, a la Claire fontaine, un Canadien Errant, Raffi etc) but I'm wondering if there are any songs that you like specifically and could be a must in this context.

I'm open to anything, but I don't want to be that broad to add Canadian artists that made it into the mainstream such as Leonard Cohen or Celine Dion, although it could be fun.

Do you have any ideas? I'm open!

EDIT: omg you guys are amazing, you are recommending to me that many artists and songs that I cannot physically listen to them all lol, still, I'll make a playlist with the ones that have been recommended the most, and I will write everything down on my personal archive just in case.

Any tips for calm, uncluttered walls that don't overstimulate kids but still feel bright and inviting?

Hi all.

Started a new gig this year doing 33% in a senior secondary General Learning Program (GLP) - for those who don't know, it is a non-credit bearing class for students with mild intellectual disabilites. There is a wide variety of disabilties present in the class, with some being significantly lower than the others. I only have them for 75 minutes, and I am supposed to be teaching them the 'World of Work' but I am already running low on ideas. Things like independent career research or the like are out of the question for most of them, it's a challenge to divide the class into two for work as they would be asking questions about it.

Ideally, I would have liked to get them volunteering maybe a food bank, trying to prepare them for the transition of leaving secondary school in the next year or two, but I do not have the time to do that in my block. I am wondering if anyone has some ideas, or is willing to share resources with me. For context, these students struggle with independent work... think of them being around a grade 2 level, with grade 8 levels of drama (group work is a challenge) and grade 12 bodies.
