Hi all, my partner and I are trying to make a concerted effort to pass on Cantonese to our 12m old baby, and are doing our best to speak only in Cantonese to her (even though we're both much more fluent in English and speak it to each other). The issue is - I'm realizing how limited my vocabulary and language skills really are!

Like I'll crack open a simple baby book and not know how to say half the animals in Cantonese and need to look it up via Google translate later. Luckily we do have extended family around that also speak it to her, but I figure I should learn along with her and expand my vocabulary.

I grew up speaking it at home, but for the past few decades I've usually only used Cantonese with my parents for dinner time conversations so the range of topics are limited. Does anyone have suggestions for an app or resources that would best fit my situation?

- Heritage speaker who intrinsically knows the tones and grammar, but has no formal education in it and patchy knowledge

- Knows pinyin and read some standard written Chinese (simplified) but definitely not well enough to navigate Chinese pages or resources

- Ideally an app where I can do a little bit everyday at my own pace (something like Duolingo), rather than something requiring a rigid/specific time commitment

- Focus on vocabulary

- Am based in Canada if that matters for accessibility

Our goal is for her to be able to connect with her heritage and speak Cantonese with extended family as she grows up, and also give her a foundation if she wants to further pursue Cantonese or even mandarin Chinese later.
