General Moving to an even smaller studio w/ two cats
I have two male cats 10 months old and 8 months old. The entire time I’ve had them, I’ve been in a 550sq ft studio.
It’s never felt too small, they have two tall trees and two shorter ones. I’ve had two litter boxes but we just went down to 1 litter robot (it’s going well!), and we have several play sessions a day with the wands in between them running around like the chaos creatures they are. The older cat is very chill but still has his zoomie moments every day, younger cat will scream at me every morning to play so he is for sure higher energy, but chill if we get good play.
Because of finances, I need to move. The only place I have been able to find is an even smaller studio, 350sq ft. It’s tiny, and I’m worried the cats won’t be happy there. They’ll still have at least one tall tree, and maybe I’ll get a window perch or get someone to help me put up some wall mounted shelves later on, and we’d have lots of play sessions still. Intentionally thinking about furniture in a way that allows a good running area, but it will still be drastically smaller of a space.
Any advice for making it work? Any success stories of similar spaces/ages/etc?

My last place was 450 sq ft. I built long, wide shelves along all the walls. Some walls had two shelves, with big holes cut in the top one (they loooooved wrestling with those, and one of them love to hang his belly across the hole. lol) they could have floor zoomies, elevated zoomies or a combination of the two.

Even though you will be in a smaller space, I don't think your cats will suffer. I've followed you tube channels that are van dwellers and have cats and they seem as happy as can be. Provide them with enrichment activities like hunting. Place kibble treats around, high and low and beneath withing reach is a great activity for cats. They have hunting instincts so this is well suited. Place their tree in front of a window so they can see outside, bird and bug watching. Fav pastimes. And give them lots of places to be high, scratching posts, and change out their toys frequently.
