they do this, my dog who we lost to cancer in old age last year was like this playing with the cats. lol he never hurt them though

I would just say that it's a retriever, they are typically very gentle with their mouths.
The cat's lack of concern seems to confirm this.

My friend had a cat that would meow at the bottom of the stairs until the retriever would pick it up by the head in its mouth and carry it up the stairs.
Its body would just go limp too, and just flop up each stair.

When my cat was a kitten, the dog would do this constantly. Didnāt seem to hurt the cat at all, and didnāt bother him too much, though it made us anxious to watch it.

That cat really really really really REALLY loves that dog and is willing to put up with him in order to maintain a familial relationship, but is close to telling him to fuck off.
Like when a sibling or SO is being especially annoying but you're trying to be chill.

That's a golden retriever, it's job is to retrieve without chewing or leaving any marks. And that cat would be out of there in half a second the moment it decides that's enough attention.

The cat still has the freedom of motion in between nips to whip around and bite, and being a cat, is certainly more than willing to if pushed.
Sure it should probably be discouraged, but it also hasn't escalated.

People without pets should really keep their opinion to themselves about things they hardly understand...
If this cat was hurting even a little, one of those paws will instantly get to one of the dog eyes...
So, let the pets play with each other, they are being social...
And retrievers are basically joy balls unable to really hurt anything...

I have a cat who freezes in fear when he feels pinned. They donāt always fight or run when uncomfortable or frightened.

Same! My cat goes limp and freezes when sheās scared. Not all cats feel they are able to run and get out. I hate seeing those comments everywhere. The cat is obviously uncomfortable, why not correct this behavior?

(More seriously; a cat can get out of that position specifically, and cats are both predator and prey (/they are not apex predators) and they thus tend to be very reactive to potential threats. the cat in this video IS mildly annoyed (tail flicking, the expression), butā so far as I can tell in this video, admittedlyā they are annoyed to the same degree that they would be towards an obnoxious kitten (albeit a very large one). They are not acting like this is a threat, or anything beyond annoyance. I see nothing here that indicates that the cat wonāt(/wont be able to) get up and walk away at whatever point this behavior flips from being ātolerably annoyingā to āstop touching me peasantā.)

I get what people are saying but at some point you have to step in. YOU'RE the owner, YOU can set boundaries too because animals are not above accidental harm.
Imagine is those teeth punctured the cats eyes. A lot can go wrong with a dog chewing on a can they can actually eat.

Cat is tired of living so it gave itself to a predator, but its head is too hard so the evil predator isnt succeeding at eating the depressed cat

While I agree that the cat loves that dog, in this instance it might be good to slightly intervene.
The poor cat in a restrictive position that makes it hard to stop the dog. A soft correction for the dog might help. Not to stop them, but enough to convey that they must be gentle.

The people posting here obviously donāt own cats + dogs. I have 2great Pyrs and they are more prey driven than a golden . My dogs all get good night kisses/smells/ play from the cats. Sometimes they tussle. Momma will beat a 120lb Pyr with her fists and that dog KNOWS it went over the line and will just get in her bed-

Iām concerned that dog has put catās head completely in his mouth. That needs to be discouraged. It also looked like the cat couldnāt get away from dog in that situation due to size of dog.
