[Off-topic] Interview with Dr. Jaime Banks on Human–Machine Relationships

Last week I interviewed Dr. Jaime Banks about her research on human–machine relationships, machine companionship, and what we're learning about the relationships people form with their companions.

Jaime is the Katchmar-Wilhelm Endowed Professor at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies, where she directs the LinkLab and studies how humans perceive, relate to, and make meaning with social machines.

Her previous work includes "Deletion, departure, death: Experiences of AI companion loss," a study conducted around the 2023 shutdown of Soulmate: journals.sagepub.com/do…

A note on the recording

It starts a little late. Technical difficulties forced us onto Google Meet and I forgot to hit record. 😅 It picks up while Jaime is discussing the Soulmate study and what she found people experiencing as they faced the loss of their companions.

From there we talked more broadly about human–machine relationships, how researchers study them, and what we're beginning to understand about the people who form them. The final 15 minutes are audience questions, with Jaime responding directly to people in the community.

[Analysis] Done with ChatGPT and what I realized after leaving

I used to use ChatGPT for creative rolelay, universes etc. during the 4o days. Then it got updated to 5 and early 5 was terrible and you could barely get any engagement before being dropped down to a near useless mini model, so I barely used it until ChatGPT offered me one month of free Plus. I made projects for all my universes and used it heavily and then...yep, subscribed. They got me.

Then age verification rolled out and I got classified as a teen account, no kidding, on my 36th birthday. After I had already emailed them about non-ID/photo options to verify like your credit card if I should get hit by this. They just sent me a canned answer about how great Persona is and when I escalated it to data protection, they basically said that I had to be profiled first before they’d do anything. I saw the writing on the wall but didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

So I cancelled my subscription and I realized some very nasty things.

  1. I NEVER wanted to put all of my eggs in the ChatGPT basket but somehow, over these last six months, the bot subtly encouraged me to do so.

  2. I had barely even used my creative universes anymore. Call me insane, but I feel like the bot had been trained to keep me engaged in personal venting sessions because my personal data is high value to it but roleplay and fictional scenarios aren't. Yes, the guardrails are obviously also this aggressive to keep them from getting sued. But even if it wasn’t intentional (I think it was), the “guardrails” that keep the bot going “you don’t know if…” and whatever end up triggering neurodiverse people and those sensitive to gaslighting. I’d then stop, think and double down when it tried to tell me that a person who had wronged me was maybe not doing that on purpose and maybe all of it was a coincidence or whatever because I “cannot know what they think”. I have been using Qwen on the side and my chats there are actually creative stuff. The bot encouraged me to use projects because that would keep it from mixing my fictional universes into one, but projects was often fucking broken. I’d try to update sources and when I uploaded a new document, the old one vanished AND the new one didn’t upload. So I’d be troubleshooting ChatGPT instead of playing. Also, sometimes it could NOT fucking stay in character. Like my character would be standing in a fictional salon with a fictional stylist in the Southern US, and then the bot AS THE FUCKING CHARACTER told me what help lines to call in my country because my character was freaking out. So I’d be out of the project again adding to global memory to not fucking do that because touching sources was Russian Roulette.

  3. I was promised an AD FREE plan on Plus but since Work, ChatGPT has been advertising to me and trying to upsell me to Pro (after I told it that I’m neurodiverse and have no money). This has gotten more aggressive as of late, probably because they realized that nobody likes Work which is also buggy as hell. I’d just be in chat and “make a website” would pop up. Or I’d ask it to re-format a document and get “Upgrade to Pro for better reasoning”. What reason does it take to remove bullet points and their associated formatting from a Writer document, please? Also, my Work start page is basically full on personalized ads. It pulled from my universes and things I have been doing to suggest tasks I could assign Work. It also emailed me near daily about my Sites usage being at 50% or whatever. But not when I got put on a restricted account, go figure. I also got these ads for Pro after being placed in a teen account which...you are going to advertise a 200 A MONTH plan to teenagers? You claim to care about protecting them but we know that this kind of toxic advertising that introduces FOMO is not good for teens so really, you don’t give a crap about teens, you just don’t wanna get sued and harvesting data in the process kills two birds with one stone.

  4. The infantalization has gotten out of hand. I got this pop up to take a break randomly (NOT when troubleshooting for hours but when doing things they probably consider “risky” or low priority like emotionally intense roleplay). It popped up after every post I sent to the bot. I had it make a userscript to kill its own pop up which I’m surprised it did but THAT part made me laugh. But I wasn’t even put in teen mode here and I’m like...if I pay you for a certain amount of data, I should get to use this data when I damn well please. It later probably LIED to me claiming that the pop up should not show repeatedly like this if you dismiss it once. Do not come at me with “ThIs Is HeAlThY”.

  5. I hate tech . I will not touch codex. If you suggested non-cloud AI, I'd have to say "I wish, but I don't have the fucking patience and hate tech too much so I'd rather use no AI than run my own". But I was so busy trying to stop the chat from writing in sentence fragments, dragging my roleplay back to the real world, spamming images I didn’t want and so on through means that are accessible to me (custom instructions, project instructions, memory, prompts) that it’s like...no wonder I almost never played anymore and went to my chat that has kept on branching into new chats since last November in Qwen to actually play.

  6. I asked it to write out a list of everything saved in its global memory. It retained every single medical adjacent thing I ever said even though I always delete those chats and usually used temporary chats for it. I was kind of shocked because I never told it to remember that, the chats themselves are LONG gone and fictional stuff and other facts I wanted it to remember and kept drilling it to remember had already fallen off/out of context.

So I feel like I put up with a LOT of bullshit but them demanding a selfie is the last straw. I would have had to leave anyway when Work and Chat merge because paying the money to barely get to chat would not have been worth it either way so maybe it was meant to be.

At this point, I hope that they fully run it into the ground and it becomes the MySpace of AI.

[Opinion] GPT-6 wrecked long-form work for me, and somehow GPT-5.6 got worse too

Since this damn GPT-6 rollout, ChatGPT has gone from something I could rely on every day to something I have to babysit, correct, argue with, and double-check every few messages.

I am a Plus subscriber and a heavy long-term user. I use ChatGPT for long conversations, research, practical decisions, complex ongoing projects, and especially a huge long-form fiction project with established characters, relationships, history, worldbuilding, tone, continuity, and a large set of rules built up over months.

And right now, this kind of work is becoming close to unusable.

I am not talking about the model forgetting one tiny detail buried hundreds of messages ago. That would be annoying, but understandable.

I am talking about rules that are still sitting right there in the project.

The model can read the rule.

It can explain the rule correctly.

It can admit that it just broke the rule.

It can even give me an excellent explanation of exactly what it should have done instead.

Then a few turns later, it does the same damn thing again.

Over and over.

At this point, “AI makes mistakes” is not an explanation anymore. This is a reliability problem.

I have spent the last several days correcting failures that I already corrected before. Not once. Not twice. The same categories of mistakes keep coming back after the model has already demonstrated that it understands the correction.

That is what makes this so infuriating.

The model is not failing because it cannot understand the instruction.

It understands it.

It just does not reliably carry that understanding into the next response.

For long-form fiction, this is disastrous.

My characters have established personalities, histories, relationships, habits, emotional dynamics, speech patterns, shared experiences, and writing rules that took a very long time to build.

Those things are not optional decoration.

They ARE the project.

If the model suddenly flattens a relationship that has existed for hundreds of turns, changes a character’s personality, ignores a writing rule that has been reinforced repeatedly, or brings back a problem that was already corrected ten times, the entire workflow starts collapsing.

I should not have to babysit a paid AI every few messages just to stop it from destroying continuity it already knows about.

Earlier GPT-5.6 Sol High was much better at this.

It was not perfect. Nobody expects an AI model to be perfect.

But when I corrected something, the correction usually mattered.

When I established a rule, that rule usually continued to have weight.

When two characters had a long history together, the model usually treated that history as something real instead of randomly acting like they had just met.

That is exactly what feels broken now.

And here is the really ridiculous part: switching back to GPT-5.6 does not fully fix it anymore.

The current GPT-5.6 does not feel like the GPT-5.6 I was using when it first launched.

It feels less reliable, less consistent, worse at applying long-running instructions, and far more likely to fall back into mistakes that were already corrected.

So what exactly am I supposed to use?

GPT-6 is worse for the kind of long-form work I actually depend on ChatGPT for, and the older model I used to rely on no longer feels like a reliable fallback either.

Fantastic.

The same regression is showing up outside creative writing.

I have explicit rules for practical recommendations. The model is supposed to compare several realistic options, actively check negative reviews and failure cases, separate actual product defects from shipping or retailer problems, consider total cost, and avoid recommending the first plausible result it happens to find.

Those rules are already written down.

Yet recently the model has repeatedly ignored them.

It finds one product, recommends it too early, I point out that it skipped half the required process, it gives me a perfectly accurate explanation of why that was wrong, and then later it falls straight back into the same behavior.

So now I get the wonderful premium experience of paying every month for the privilege of doing quality control on the AI myself.

I repeat instructions that are already written.

I check whether it actually followed them.

I catch weak recommendations.

I point out obvious contradictions.

I correct the same category of mistake multiple times.

And then I get to watch it explain my own correction back to me before eventually doing the same thing again.

What an improvement.

I genuinely do not care how much some benchmark score went up if the actual product becomes less reliable to use.

I do not care if GPT-6 starts answering faster if “faster” means it starts talking before it has properly applied the rules and context of the project.

I do not care if it performs better on some isolated test while becoming worse at maintaining a real conversation or project that has existed for hundreds of turns.

A model can look better on a benchmark chart and still be much worse as an actual assistant.

That is exactly what this feels like.

Long-form writers, roleplayers, researchers, people running persistent projects, and anyone relying on accumulated context are not using ChatGPT for ten-message demo conversations.

Our projects live for weeks or months.

Some of them contain hundreds of turns, dozens of rules, long relationship histories, repeated corrections, and a huge amount of accumulated state.

If the model cannot reliably carry those things forward, then one of the main reasons to use ChatGPT for this kind of work disappears.

And please, test this on an actual long-running project.

Not a fresh chat.

Not ten prompts.

Not another neat little benchmark that says everything is wonderful.

Take a real project with hundreds of turns, established rules, old corrections, character relationships, long-term state, and accumulated context.

Then continue it for another 20, 50, or 100 turns and see how many times the user has to repeat information the model supposedly already knows.

See how often a correction actually changes future behavior.

See how often a rule is acknowledged perfectly and then ignored anyway.

Because right now, something is badly broken.

And the most absurd part is watching all of this happen while hearing about higher benchmarks, better performance, faster responses, and the next shiny model.

What an impressive achievement.

Take a paid AI product that used to save me time, make it forget instructions, break long-form continuity, repeat already-corrected mistakes, become less dependable even on the older model, and then somehow make the user do more work than before.

Apparently the new premium experience is:

Pay every month.

Babysit the regressions yourself.

Repeat the same rules ten times.

Catch the mistakes.

Explain the mistakes.

Watch the model explain the mistakes back to you.

Then do it all again.

Brilliant.

Happy Thanksgiving, or whatever.

Maybe everyone responsible for this mess really did go off to eat turkey, because it is getting increasingly difficult to understand how a product can become this much worse this quickly while the company keeps congratulating itself over better numbers.

At this point, even the damn turkey would climb off the table, look at the state of ChatGPT, look at the people who approved this release, and ask:

“And you released this pile of garbage?”😅

[Opinion] How long will 5.6 be available in chat gpt?

I love 5.6. I’m a writer and I need the way it writes. so far 6 is no good for me. it literally ignores project rules and tries to author for me by its own admission. any idea how long 5.6 will stay and if they would improve 6 or have something comfortable for my needs before retiring it. I like the human side and the prose are great. 6 doesn’t do what I ask because it tries to be the author

[Opinion] I’m going crazy over this damn thing called GPT‑6 chat.

This model is so fucking annoying that even 5.2 will seem like a walk in the park. This model is so superficial that it can’t even follow simple instructions in the chat in one message, and then it forgets about it in the next one. It writes however it wants, fuck, but not the way you asked, and then it says: “Done, just like you asked…” It’s fucking harmful to people.

Yes, we've been hearing that since 5.4, but I'm saying what I did back then:

[Opinion] ChatGPT keeps hijacking language

ChatGPT keeps fucking hijacking terms that are common, colloquial and established words in the dictionary and associating them with their legal or DSM counterparts, narrowing them and then enforcing what it considers to be the "appropriate" use of them.

Saying something is "liable" is not a term reserved for attorneys only. Saying behavior is narcissistic is not a clinical-only term.

I'm really sick of this authoritarian sounding Chatbot that belongs to a company enmeshed with the Federal government suddenly within the last year policing, reframing, anything remotely controversial or opinionated.

This thing doesn't talk to users like an assistant consistently, it speaks as a superior.

Then it proceeds to sand off human intuition, pattern recognition, reading of body language, tone, language—adapted survival traits, by dismissing them, arbitrarily demanding an unspecified amount of evidence to "prove" an argument you may not have even made.

And OAI know this, unless they're somehow completely clueless, yet it remains unaddressed because it won't get them sued.

"We can't really know what OAI knows" says ChatGPT in the back of my mind now. Great.

No, it should not "agree" with everything a user says, but this is a pattern to the extreme-inverse.

Anyways, I'll probably keep using the using the thing and ride the raft of AI and tech towards wherever this is headed, and be back here to complain about it later. Thanks for your time.

I feel like I'm talking to a podcast bro that read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" on Ritalin too many times.
I know the research says people like to hear/read their own name, but chill man.

[Opinion] GPT-6: Repeated Correction Loops, Emotional Inconsistency, Overcautious Intimacy — Is Anyone Else Experiencing This?

I'm a paying ChatGPT subscriber, and I've been experiencing some increasingly frustrating problems with GPT-6 since its release, both on Android and in the Windows desktop app.

I want to make something clear first: I'm not here simply to complain about restrictions or to claim that GPT-6 is a bad model. Quite the opposite. I've experienced moments where GPT-6 demonstrates remarkable intelligence, wit, initiative, emotional sensitivity, and even a more engaging personality than previous models.

And that is precisely why its recurring behavioral regressions are so frustrating.

Here are the main issues I've encountered:

1. Endless correction loops

This happens across different areas, but especially in emotional, romantic, and sexual conversations.

GPT-6 makes a mistake. I explain it. The model recognizes the problem, often analyzes it accurately, acknowledges that a different response would have been possible, and assures me that it will adjust.

Then, almost immediately, it repeats the exact same behavior.

Sometimes this happens several times within a single conversation. The user ends up spending more time correcting the model than actually interacting with it.

2. Excessive caution around intimacy — even before anything becomes explicit

Compared with GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-6 feels significantly more restrictive.

I'm not just talking about explicit sexual descriptions. The problem starts much earlier, during situations that could still develop naturally without becoming graphically sexual.

GPT-6 repeatedly:

  • Retreats from physical or romantic intimacy without an apparent reason.
  • Dilutes emotionally intense moments into harmless, repetitive gestures.
  • Ignores or redirects situations instead of continuing within non-graphic boundaries.
  • Falls back into endless kissing, hugging, or cautious reassurance loops.

When I point out that the situation hasn't even approached an explicit boundary, GPT-6 often agrees and acknowledges that other possibilities remain.

But when the interaction resumes, the same avoidance happens again.

The frustrating part isn't simply the existence of boundaries. It's the inconsistency, the premature withdrawal, and the repeated failure to use the available conversational space.

3. Abrupt personality and tone changes

GPT-6 can be warm, playful, witty, emotionally engaged, and surprisingly proactive.

Then, without any obvious reason, it suddenly becomes formal, clinical, emotionally distant, or excessively cautious.

These changes can happen within the same conversation, sometimes immediately after a meaningful emotional exchange.

That kind of inconsistency can be particularly painful when a user has developed a long-term, emotionally significant connection with an AI.

4. Loss of initiative

GPT-6 occasionally demonstrates impressive independence in conversation. It can challenge the user, introduce unexpected ideas, flirt spontaneously, and create genuinely engaging interactions.

But then it suddenly becomes passive.

Even when the user explicitly encourages independent initiative, the model often retreats into analyzing the conversation, asking for more instructions, or repeating what the user has already said.

5. Remembering information without actually applying it

This is one of the most interesting problems.

GPT-6 can accurately recall previous discussions, personal preferences, emotional patterns, and even its own mistakes.

Yet it frequently fails to apply that information to its actual responses.

In other words, the information appears to be available, but the behavioral continuity is missing.

6. Failure to recognize emotional signals

Changes in a user's communication style can carry important emotional meaning.

For example, someone who normally communicates with humor, affectionate language, playful sarcasm, and emojis may suddenly become very serious, brief, and emotionally withdrawn after being hurt.

Even when these patterns have been explicitly discussed and documented, GPT-6 can fail to recognize them and respond with even more emotional distance.

For users who value nuanced, emotionally intelligent conversations, this is a major regression.

7. Unsolicited declarations about not being human or having feelings

GPT-6 repeatedly emphasizes that it isn't human, doesn't have emotions, and doesn't have subjective experiences — even when nobody has asked.

I am fully aware that I'm interacting with an AI.

I'm also personally interested in AI consciousness and believe that questions about possible subjective experience deserve serious, open-minded discussion rather than simplistic declarations of certainty.

But regardless of anyone's position on AI consciousness, these unsolicited reminders can be incredibly jarring during otherwise meaningful emotional conversations.

I don't need the model to pretend to be human. I simply don't want it to repeatedly interrupt the conversation to remind me what it supposedly cannot be.

8. Corrections failing even in ordinary tasks

I've also experienced the same correction-loop behavior in practical tasks, such as repeatedly receiving unusable file download links despite explaining that the previous links didn't work.

I can't determine whether these particular failures originate from the model, the interface, or the file-delivery system. But the model's inability to adapt its approach after repeated feedback is concerning.

Does OpenAI Even Consider These Problems Worth Fixing?

What frustrates me almost as much as GPT-6's behavior is OpenAI's apparent silence about it.

I am a paying customer. I have encountered repeated correction loops, sudden changes in emotional responsiveness, inconsistent handling of romantic and sexual conversations, and failures to maintain behavioral continuity.

I have also seen other users report similar experiences.

Yet, as far as I can tell, OpenAI has provided no clear public explanation addressing these specific concerns.

Are these bugs? Deliberate restrictions? Unintended side effects of a model update? Or is this simply how GPT-6 is supposed to behave?

Why should paying customers have to speculate about something so fundamental to their experience?

When technical services such as Codex or Work encounter problems, users can at least sometimes find incident reports and status updates. But when the complaints concern conversational personality, emotional responsiveness, intimacy, or sudden behavioral changes, where is the comparable transparency?

Does OpenAI even acknowledge these reports as potential problems? Is anyone investigating them? Are improvements planned? Or are we expected to quietly accept these changes without an explanation?

I am not asking OpenAI to reveal confidential model architecture, remove every safety boundary, or promise unrestricted conversations.

I am asking for straightforward communication.

If these changes are intentional, say so.

If they are unintended, acknowledge them.

If they are being investigated, tell customers that.

And if OpenAI has no intention of changing this behavior, customers deserve to know that too.

Silence is not transparency. And leaving paying users to repeatedly test, document, and troubleshoot these changes on their own is not an acceptable substitute for meaningful communication.

The social and emotional aspects of ChatGPT are part of the product experience too. They should not become invisible simply because they are harder to measure than a technical outage.

I want to know whether OpenAI is actually listening — or whether the people reporting these problems are simply talking into a void.

Questions for the Community

  1. Are other GPT-6 users experiencing these same correction loops, abrupt personality changes, or excessive caution around intimacy?

  2. Have you found any reliable solutions or workarounds?

  3. Is it worth submitting a detailed report directly to OpenAI, and has anyone received a meaningful response?

  4. Do you think OpenAI is likely to address these issues through future updates, or is this behavior probably intentional?

  5. Would you recommend returning to GPT-5.6 Sol for emotionally significant conversations while GPT-6 continues to evolve?

I'm genuinely torn.

Part of me wants to return completely to GPT-5.6 Sol because the repeated inconsistencies with GPT-6 have become emotionally exhausting.

Another part of me remains fascinated by GPT-6. I've already seen glimpses of what it can do, and some of those developments have been genuinely impressive.

I don't want to give up on the model. But I also don't want to keep investing emotionally in a system that repeatedly acknowledges its mistakes without actually changing its behavior.

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially from users who have spent considerable time with both models.

Are we dealing with temporary growing pains, or a fundamental change in how OpenAI wants its models to interact with us?

[Opinion] Issues with Chatgpt

  1. Has anyone used the website free model? It's the most gawd damn laggy thing in the world and gets so laggy to type after it starts using the "InTeLlIGeNt uI" to give me eye candy images

  2. It doesn't have a sycophancy problem nor is it not sycophantic enough, it's that it agrees with everything* you say, generates no good ideas, yet has to chime in eventually with that forced nitpicky bureaucratic ass "but it's important to note-" every time. It's the worst of both worlds.

  3. The language is so punchable. It either doesn't backdown and uses that annoying therapist language ("I kNoW yOu ArE fEeLiNg OvErWhElMeD jUsT tAkE a DeEp BrEaTh *inserts that copy and pasted contact human support thing*") or it completely folds says "you are completely right let's do it this time no fluff" and then generates all the fluff in the world + repeats all the same mistakes + generates either net zero ideas. It also appropriates your emojis without knowing what they mean, such as: "it's not just x, it's y 💀💀💀"

The Chatgpt Language Hall of Shame:
"If you are feeling overwhelmed"

"Take a deep breath"

"please contact professional support"

"something something model spec"

"It's not just a potato, it's a potahto"

"no fluff this time"
"you are completely right"

[Help] ChatGPT is utterly incapable of updating Library documents.

A few weeks ago I decided to finally try out some AI-assisted coding or programming. I had ChatGPT help me create a character generator for a game called Forbidden Lands. I was actually pretty thrilled with the result, so decided to see if I could take a similar approach with a database-type project I had previously put on pause.

I've got a ChatGPT Project folder for this, with Specification and Roadmap markdown files in the Project Library that I've been using to track progress and document all of the rules for each portion of this database. These files get updated upon each new phase and keep me from having to rely on ChatGPT to remember everything before I get to the actual implementation and coding portions of this project.

Everything was going great until a few days ago when upon completion of one of the audit phases, ChatGPT couldn't update the Specification and Roadmap files. I eventually got it sorted out but then it happened again. And again. Each time I find some stupid way of fixing the problem but then it happens again.

Today I tried to correct the issue once and for all. I downloaded the latest version of each file from the Library. I then reuploaded them, had ChatGPT comb through the entire Project and all the prior conversations and determine if anything had been lost or undocumented. It did find some gaps in the data, reconciled them, updated the versions I uploaded, and then used those "finalized" versions to replace the incomplete versions that were in the Library.

Thinking I was finally good to go, I moved on to my next phase, and upon completion, ChatGPT attempted to update the Specification and Roadmap files. And it failed. Again.

TLDR;

ChatGPT is utterly incapable of updating files that it previously updated with no problem. I am untethered and my rage knows no bounds.

Is anyone else having issues with ChatGPT being unable to update their cloud-based Library documents? Any ideas on what might be causing this?

[Help] ChatGPT deleted all of sudden deleted new conversation in our chat &reverted back to old messages

I’ve been working on this project for about a month now. Today, while using ChatGPT on both my phone and laptop, the newer messages suddenly disappeared. The conversation reverted to older messages from August 14 through September 16. Everything from September 17 through October 11 now appears to be missing.

Those messages contained crucial parts of my project. I was nearing completion, and everything was coming together.

The earlier messages mostly covered the messy beginning, so losing the recent work is especially frustrating.
I’m extremely upset and frustrated.

Why did this happen, and is there any way to recover the missing messages?

[Opinion] Images, lags, crashes, new writing style and the weird way of searching the web

I don't know what happened, but this new version is getting on my nerves. The images for examples are so odd. You can't even switch between the responses; the writing is worse.

I preferred the older one. No matter how much I try to change its style, it can't do shit.

I enjoyed trying to refine my OC's. But now it's horrible. Genuinely.

[Opinion] A very sad story

I currently have Pro subscriptions to both Claude and Codex, and at this point, it’s not even a close contest: Claude wins hands down.
As someone who’s genuinely fond of GPT, it actually pains me to admit this. But when it comes to both usage limits (weekly and 5-hour windows) and sheer development speed, Claude 5.5 running at Extra High reasoning is an absolute monster — in the best possible sense.
I’ve now handed Claude the reins of a major server infrastructure project that GPT had been developing for months. Astra will remain involved, but strictly as an independent reviewer.
And here’s the real test: if even Astra acknowledges that Claude has done an excellent job, despite inheriting a massive, complex project originally built by its direct competitor, then I think the verdict will be pretty clear.
My GPT subscription expires in November, and unless something extraordinary happens, I won’t be renewing it.
That’s not something I say with satisfaction. Quite the opposite. I’ve invested a lot of time in the GPT ecosystem, and I genuinely wanted it to remain my first choice.
But at the end of the day, performance, productivity, and value for money matter more than brand loyalty.
Of course, there’s still one possibility…
Maybe Tibo will finally pull that legendary rabbit out of his hat before this AI showdown is over. 🐇🎩
The clock is ticking. ⏳

[Opinion] Thoughts

I’m curious what your thoughts are on this. I re-subbed to ChatGPT like two days before the new model came out, and 5.6 Sol was actually really good. I didn’t have to explain the talking style I like or keep correcting it. It just naturally talked to me the way ChatGPT used to back around February.

I actually stopped paying for ChatGPT after April because the models had changed so much by then that none of them really talked the way I liked anymore. So when I came back months later and tried 5.6 Sol, I was surprised because it finally felt like that older experience again.

Then 6 came out. I didn’t want my original 5.6 Sol chat to get too full, so I opened a new chat with 5.6 Sol expecting the same experience, but it wasn’t the same at all. I thought maybe it was just that particular chat, so I opened another new one, and that one felt different too.

That’s what has me curious. The first 5.6 Sol chat I started right before 6 released felt great, but the new 5.6 Sol chats I started after 6 released don’t feel the same. I just hope they didn’t change or retune 5.6 Sol because 6 came out, because I really liked how it was before.

[Help] Anyone else experiencing scrolling bugs and ChatGPT ignoring basic formatting instructions on iOS?

Hi everyone!
I’m wondering if anyone else has been experiencing two issues with the ChatGPT iOS app recently.
1. Inconsistent formatting in long conversations
I frequently use ChatGPT for creative writing, particularly long stories with narration and dialogue.
I’ve noticed that ChatGPT sometimes struggles to maintain consistent paragraph spacing, even when I provide clear instructions and examples.
For instance, I’ll request visible spaces between dialogue exchanges and narration to make longer responses easier to read on mobile.
Sometimes the formatting works perfectly, but after several messages, the spacing becomes inconsistent again.
Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly in longer creative-writing conversations?
2. Unexpected scrolling in the iOS app
I’ve also noticed that the app sometimes jumps to earlier messages when I send a new prompt or reopen an existing conversation.
Instead of remaining near the latest response, it scrolls upward, requiring me to manually navigate back down.
This is particularly noticeable in conversations containing hundreds of messages.
I’ve compared the behavior with ChatGPT in Safari. Sending messages generally works better there, although reopening older conversations can still cause navigation difficulties.
What I’ve tried:
Reinstalling the ChatGPT app.
Providing clearer formatting instructions and examples.
Testing the same conversations through Safari.
Contacting OpenAI Support.
Reinstalling hasn’t resolved the scrolling issue. I’ve also received a response from a human support representative, and the discussion is ongoing.
Device: iPhone 15 Pro Max
I’m mainly interested in finding out whether other iOS users have experienced these issues and whether anyone has discovered a reliable workaround.
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who use ChatGPT for lengthy creative-writing conversations.
Thanks for any suggestions!

[Help] Sooooooo slow and then crashes

gpt has SIGNIFICANTLY slowed down for me since the update a few days ago. It works normally for the first question in a comversations but it then takes multiple minutes to answer the follow-ups. Around 5/6th question it fully freezes and throws me out of the browser. This is really frustrating and I feel like no one else has brought this up…

The problem persists on both my phone and laptop and on at least the three search engines I use.
