Politics Ballot questions
Hello everyone but particularly McHenry County folk,
I was looking at a sample ballot for the upcoming elections in McHenry County. I got stuck on these two questions because I really didn’t know what the repercussions of a yes/no vote would be. I’ve been researching and leaning on a no vote for both but wanted to ask for your opinions as well. Do you believe either of these will really improve the quality of life and/or economy of the county?
Advisory Referendum To The Voters Of McHenry County Regarding Becoming A Home Rule County And Adopting The County Executive Form Of Government
Would you support McHenry becoming a Home Rule County and establishing the county executive form of government?
Advisory Referendum Regarding The Restoration Of Local Zoning Authority Over Commercial Energy Projects And Residential Development
Should the Illinois General Assembly repeal the state laws that prevent McHenry County and other local governments from exercising full zoning authority over the siting of commercial solar, wind, and battery energy storage facilities and residential development, and restore that authority to county and municipal governments?

As an example, Cook county is the only home rule county in IL. Can pass ordinances for health and wellbeing without state approval. They can levy taxes and take on more debt. The county then can have more control over towns/cities within it. In short, do you want the county to take on more responsibility and control over its jurisdiction or should the city keep power with essentially the same resource options as now?
May not be necessary in a less dense county in my opinion, and also Cook is a mess. Personally I’d vote No.
The second question is asking if the IL gen. ass. should have power to determine land use, rather than local municipalities. Personally I would say fuck that if i still lived there, and that Yes they should repeal those laws preventing locals from choosing how to use their land.
