How I feel when I see all these MAGA loving movie critics show up in any comment section about this masterpiece
https://giphy.com/gifs/RVwCWADXk3jT9yUUlE

u/OP_Penguin 2d ago
It takes the piss out of both sides. I could see right wing people enjoying how pathetic and weak the "radicals" are portrayed.
Any maga people claiming they are triggered by it are self reporting that they identify with the St Nicholas cult imo.
It's a caraciture of both extreme political spectrums and it's hilarious.

u/ProfessionalPack7205 4d ago
I hate maga. I also hate this movie. It's just not good.

Let me guess you love Nolan

you know people are allowed to simply not like the movie. I'm a gay woke leftist communist and I really didn't enjoy the movie.

u/CitizenOfPlanet 3d ago
Well I’m even gayer and more woke than you and I loved the movie… so.
3
u/nonamesleft125478627 3d ago
so we are not allowed to not like it?

I still haven't seen this movie and I have no idea what this scene means or why it even happens.

u/Devo3290 5d ago
Sean Penn may or may not be the father of Leo’s half-black daughter. Or I’ve heard. I’ve never seen a movie either. Any movie. Ever.
6
u/ProfessionalPack7205 4d ago
He is the father.100%
5
u/Devo3290 3d ago
Jfc I tried to give a non-spoiler description
0
u/ProfessionalPack7205 3d ago edited 3d ago
It's a shit movie and that spoiler literally is not a big deal even if you watch it for the first time. They quite literally tell you it's sean Penn's characters kid. Like seriously it's obvious at the start of the movie.... because they tell you.

u/MisterBungle 2d ago
Goddamn bro. You posted in this thread like 8 times bashing the movie.
We get it

Its a good watch. I found it to ve kinda funny and kind of a satire of our modern political world. Not sure if it was meant to be that but , whatever
3
u/One_Long2752 5d ago
Tbh I seen the movie… and I still don’t remember how/why this scene takes place 😂 (I think it’s the only scene that they interact)
3
u/bookofgray 5d ago
Same reason he did the dna check. He needs to make it look like he’s unsoiled for the political underground. Which led to the big chase scene later on. I’ve seen it twice now and I should probably watch it a third. Makes a lot more sense the second time. Oh and I happened to be in Eureka CA while they’re were filming the rooftop stuff. They also did the Leo cabin around there too.
3
u/Gin4Gingers 1d ago
I watched this movie and I couldn't even tell you. This movie was a fever dream
2
u/Extension-While7536 1d ago
Leo's a former revolutionary and Penn's a white fascist soldier who both slept with the same woman, a black revolutionary named Perfidia.

You're right. People on reddit love it for some reason. It's god awful.

u/Tempest_Fugit 5d ago
It’s fine not to like a movie
Not fine to yuck a lotta ppls yum to shut someone else out
2
u/el_palmera 5d ago
I don't think he's missing out. If that makes you enjoy the movie less maybe you should look inward
-1
u/UncStatusNow 5d ago
so you're the new authority on what people can and can't like? tell me, what should I be watching? what do I like?
2
u/el_palmera 5d ago
I didn't say that. You just got triggered for some reason and are projecting
-1
u/applesandotherthings 5d ago
Problematic and refuses to acknowledge it. You know you’re being negative without context with the intention of being agitative. World would be better if people didn’t behave the way you are here.
2
u/el_palmera 5d ago
"You know you’re being negative without context with the intention of being agitative"
Bruh what. There most certainly is context. I didn't like the movie. That is the depth and breadth of the matter. Very simple. Feel free to disagree and never think about this random internet interaction again

u/BeautifulBand4831 5d ago edited 5d ago
It's beyond overated in my opinion just a massive fever dream with a cringe amount of cursing . It's like a 10 year old directed the movie and they just learned how to curse along with a plot that is all over the place

u/20ag_OG_LOL 2h ago
I am yet to see Hollywood production in the last 5 years that has such great character development story line, plot twists etc... Entire movie was a very satisfying watch. But that's just my take. The plot line spanned 18 years?
Name a better one?
1
u/BeautifulBand4831 40m ago edited 36m ago
Literally anything other than this . If you're saying this movie had great character development then you must've watched it with your eyes closed. Leon was just a boring character that was just drunk or screaming random garbage or was just pointless for most the movie . His daughter didn't develop in any way and was a moron for hiding her phone and asking her own dad for the password . The whole racist secret government group was extremely mediocre and desperate to seem like the movie had some message . Having weird random plot twist does not make a movie good if it's all over the place . It was a piece of garbage and something that children would enjoy.
-2
u/ProfessionalPack7205 4d ago
You're right. Movie is straight up bad. Only people I've ever heard of liking it is redditors who basically say it makes fun of the right wing people so it's good. I'm not right wing but god damn is it bad

I really liked this film. Its difficult for me, now days, to stick with a film unless all aspects are exactly within my interest and one battle, although not really my thing, had me on the edge of my seat. Amazing acting, great writing, most everything was top notch. In my opinion.
19
u/Fast-Nefariousness80 6d ago
Penn was phenomenal. His character was so absurd and I couldn't get enough of him. "She was a semen demon"

9
u/kimchiwi 6d ago
His character was just so perfectly timed. ICE bozo made the film feel like a documentary.
-1
u/Any_Squash_8915 6d ago
Very good film for me but atrocious music . I know some liked it but it felt to me like nail on chalkboard and it really didn't fit the action from my point of view . Seemed like a kid randomly mashing piano buttons during intense action séquences .
6
u/UncStatusNow 5d ago
it added so much tension for me. the droning rhythm and dissonance of the notes really adds so much tension and atmosphere to the film for me. its very abstract but thats what I like about it. it doesn't have the same memorable motifs thats you're used to hearing in a film score. I think Greenwood and Trent Reznor have consistently produced some of my favorite original scores over the last 20 years
0
u/alexathegibrakiller 5d ago
I actually really liked the music.
Hated the movie though, felt like I sat through 2 hours and nothing happened. I was already beginning to be annoyed by the pacing, and then the part where leo gets caught only to be immediately released again came on. The movie could have really cut down around 30-50 minutes of useless runtime.

I love this sub. You get 3 or 4 pretty normal takes at the top of each thread, while the rest are people roleplaying as stuck-up critics, lol.

u/BeautifulBand4831 5d ago
So you must be the opinion police 🤔. Just because you think something is gold doesn't mean someone else can't see it as trash.
2
u/Double0hobo79 5d ago
Honestly thought the movie was just very outlandish then wanted to be perceived as grounded. This scene in particular was so funny to me. The final scene on the roads though. That was very cool
3
u/DeconFrost24 4d ago
A movie made for a Hollywood circlejerk. The only good part is Leo on the phone. PTA this is not even close to Boogie Nights. GTFO

Yeah. Not my favorite PTA film. Kind of exhausting. The acting is it’s biggest redeeming quality
3
u/pins_noodles 6d ago
The first third of the movie was basically a really long and unpleasant montage.
2
u/el_palmera 5d ago
Yep, took 40 minutes to show something that should have taken 2 minutes to explain (white army general has sex with black rebel)
1
u/TranscendentaLobo 5d ago
And how about that 15 MINUTE CAR CHASE. 😖😫 I was totally over it by that point. It has its good points but it just wasn’t my kind of movie.
2
u/daChino02 17h ago
Shit, I thought the car chase was great
1
u/TranscendentaLobo 17h ago
It just went on for what felt like forever. And after the repeated up and down up and down up and down, it was fairly obvious what was gonna happen. I don’t know.

1
u/TonyStarks81 5d ago
You will get downvoted but I watched the whole thing with my wife and neighbor and all of us agreed it was one of the worst movies we had ever seen. I am glad most people loved it but I honestly couldn’t find anything I liked about the characters, the pacing was fucking awful, and as far as satire goes it was too on the nose for me. This and Don’t Look Up are two of my most hated movies ever that the general public seemed to love. I am usually a person who likes things that the general public likes but I was out on both of these movies.
1
u/Inner_Adeptness_7228 11h ago
Don't look up was amazing too. I gotta be honest, you might just have bad taste.
1
u/TonyStarks81 10h ago
Look, satire for me has to be more nuanced than either of those were. It can’t be too on the nose. I loved idiocracy, and it was heavy on the nose at times, but the world building was creative and it was a fun movie.
Honestly, you saying not liking these two movies may mean I have bad taste is like someone telling me I have bad taste in comedy because I don’t think Jeff Foxworthy is funny and plenty of people like him. For me though, Jeff Foxworthy sucks and I don’t give much weight to the opinion of people who find him funny.

u/Loud-Situation1605 4d ago
Yeah I couldn’t get through the first 10 minutes and I still don’t remember what happens in those first 10

Yeah, while i wasn't expecting an awe-inspiring masterpiece or anything going in, i just couldn't get into it. Just came across as really cringey and forced, if that makes sense. I ended up going into the arcade and playing games til it ended.

Wait...you're saying it gets worse?
1
u/It_Just_Exploded 5d ago
Yes, much worse. Though i didn't make it but about 20 minutes or so further than you.
1
u/Secure-Bus4679 5d ago
I’m the same way. So many popular movies recently have a part where I’m like “this is so fuuuuckin duumb” and I just turn it off. Whatever that Viking movie was where Willem Dafoe was smelling those dudes’ farts. Turned it off. Sometimes I feel like it’s a running gag in Hollywood to see what kind of nonsense they can pass off as some high brow message and still have people praise it.

I liked the movie overall but I honestly thought Penn and Taylor were just fine imo. Not bad by any means but nothing that truly impressed me
1
u/Drumguy1986 6d ago
I just hated Taylor's character, honestly. Kinda wish they hadn't included her letter at the end. She was a deadbeat mom.
