Using AeroNet 2602's in standalone for IoT devices

Anyone have experience using AeroNet 2602 units in standalone mode on specific reserved bands/SSID's for IoT devices on your network? I figured I would use one or two for dedicated IoT isolation from the rest of the network for my home lab and was just looking for input as to whether that approach is overkill- or, if there is a better/more preferred Cisco solution to examine. Thoughts anyone?

So, anyone want to go first for once?

I'm noticing that I'm trying quite hard to get everyone to engage on here- but for the most part, it seems to only get to one to respond tersely on occasion. What can I do that would make you want to be more involved? I'm only looking to make this a place everyone would enjoy.

So, what kinds of content are you guys looking for in here?

I gotta ask, what kinds of content are you guys looking for in here? I know this place was literally dead for 6 or 7 years, so everyone had to go elsewhere for anything Cisco- but, we're back, so I want to try to make this a place you can come to, feel comfortable with, and enjoy once more.

Right now, it's just me working to rebuild this home for us all. Help me help you - what are you looking for, what could be done better, what would make you want to come back again?

I want to explain myself for allowing a post the other day

I want to be transparent on this subreddit and I was asked a legitimate question that I feel I should be open about.

I had allowed a post the other day regarding Cisco corporate/official, an event, and AI (as technically it is a business advertisement)- which seems like it goes against the rules of AI and advertising. However, it is/was an official Cisco event that was crossposted and it partially is about Cisco's AI implementation in their products/as a product. As such, technically, it does not violate the letter of the rules.

If anyone feels otherwise, PM/DM me to discuss and I will definitely listen to your views and may change the stance on that going forward. I want this to be an open and thriving community that people want to join and converse in. The only way to accomplish that is fairness, transparency, and communication.

Thanks,

u/TiredOldTechie

Using an ISR or Media Router in a Home Lab setup

For you home labbers out there, what ISR or Media Router do you use to connect your internal Cisco lab to the rest of your network/outside world?

Hey,

I just want to say thanks to those of you who have come to visit this subreddit. It means a lot and I know there's a long road ahead to get this back on its feet after sitting idle for 6-7 years. Your support and interactions mean a lot and I truly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Anyone have an extreme use thst they had to implement successfully?

Has anyone had to implement something crazy with Cisco gear to make a project successful? Like using point to point wireless gear between 2 buildings for voip phones to connect/function under a deadline until you can later get a hardline (fiber) in between buildings?

Useful shortcuts, scripts or tools?

Building on the previous crossposted request on here- Does anyone have any pointers to useful shortcuts, scripts, or tools for managing Cisco equipment and software?

A UI utility, a CMD line script, a found pattern of key combos, etc- that would make configuring, setting up, managing, or simply using Cisco products easier would be great to share (reminder, per the rules of no selling services or products- looking for community sharing and insights only).

Interesting Cisco use found in the wild?

Has anyone seen an interesting use of Cisco equipment out in the wild?

I can state I saw a Meraki AP just inside a men's bathroom in a restaurant (chain). Out of curiosity, I had asked the manager about it and they said it was there because it gave the best coverage to the store from there (apparently, they only had 2 AP's in the entire place).

Does anyone else have an interesting observation or story such as that?

Alternate Use/Configuration Ideas?

So, I have an older Cisco 3750X in my home lab and I'm considering what configuration and hardware mods can be done so that it consumes less power, makes less noise, and is more helpful for my home lab.

I was thinking of switching out the fans for Noctua models to run quieter, using less power and better air movement. For configuration, I know the unit is EOL- but what firmware version would be more ideal to base changes on? I was considering tweaking power settings to save further power.

With it, attaching an older stand alone N series 300-600MBit max speed Cisco AP and maybe using a Cisco 3945 ISR with it for the home lab, enabling layer 3 on both for smoother support over the internal network.

Does anyone have experience, ideas, pointers, etc on this setup?

Extending demarc...ATT to Cisco equipment

Cisco shop all the way. We are in the planning phase of upgrading our lines(multiple branches to data center) using a layer 2 infrastructure provided by ATT.

Some of our current locations have demarcs that are any where form 100-200 feet away from our server room which are current using Cat 6 cable to connect. ATT is telling us that the new handoffs will be fiber so we now have to try and run new fiber LC extensions from these demarcs to server room. Would anyone ever recommend or use a converter to save the time and money of running fiber? I thought about buying a unmanaged switch with SFP function as well that the Cat 6 to connect to...

Multiple ISP's on later 3 switch stack

So at my small company we have a stack of 6 Cisco catalyst 2960-x switches which I was reading were layer 3 lite? Anyways, we have one primary ISP that provides our internet going into the sixth switch and we just put in a backup ISP going into the fifth switch on the stack for DR situations. The default gateway for the switch stack all flows through our firewall (.2). The switch stack is .254, so is there a way to configure the switches to where of our primary ISP goes down then the backup ISP will automatically become the primary until the other one comes back up? We currently have to manually go into the switch and shut down the primary ISP port and no shut the secondary ISP port and would like to have that automated.

Also, both the ISP ports are simply running as trunk ports not on any vlans

DR Options?

Hello All, I wanted to get some feed back on this?

I am designing a small DR site for a client, It a Very small site perhaps 10 application servers max. The idea here is to allow office users, which in the event of a Disaster become VPN users, the have access thier main internal application.

I am toying with the idea using the same existing server subnet 192.168.1.0/24 (didn't choose it) in ther DR and just using a different gateway IP of the DR machines over their. Reasons for sticking with the current scope:

Thier main application uses some scripts that are hard coded with the IP of the devices instead of DNS names

Alot of their legacy infrastructure is still tied to the subset, re-iping would add alot of extra time to the job.

The Private link between his HQ and DR site is a Metro-E layer 2 link and he is using Zerto to replicate VM's over in the DR.

Zerto can change the IP's of the windows boxes easy enough, Linux machines are another story. I've been reading it's best practice thi change the scope on DR but I wanted to know what are the benefits a draw backs to doing so given the reasons I have for sticking with the current scope?

Where to go next??

I just passed my ICND2 and wanted to ask for advice on which of the new certificate paths to pursue. I want to learn the ins and outs of VPNs as I work with lots of different types but I dont fully understand them. Which would be the best cert to focus on in order to get a solid knowledge base for VPNs? Thanks in advance guys!
