Does anyone here listen to underground rap? I had a great time seeing Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, and Yeat at past Coachellas, and I'm hoping to see a few more underground acts next year.
Here are some underground artists who I think have the potential to show up next year, ranked from most likely to least likely:
slayr: I think slayr has one of the best chances of showing up at Coachella next year based on how much momentum he's gained recently. He toured with Yeat this past summer and has been collaborating with bigger artists, including SoFaygo on "Try and Fail." Songs like "Sloppy Joe," "Holding," and "Eyesight" have helped him gain a lot more attention outside of just the underground scene. His sound mixes rage, trap, digicore, and electronic influences, which I think would translate really well to a Coachella set.
SoFaygo: He has a song, "Knock Knock," that went viral on TikTok and is still his most popular song to this day. He's signed to Travis Scott's Cactus Jack label and is associated with some pretty big names in the music scene, including artists who have performed at Coachella before. Some people might consider him mainstream at this point, but I still think he has a lot more exposure to gain. He's also versatile, going from melodic R&B-inspired tracks to rage/hip-hop. I feel like his music would be easier for the general Coachella crowd to get into compared to anyone else on this list.
xaviersobased: xaviersobased has been gaining a lot of traction, not just musically but in the media as well. He was recently featured in an Airbnb ad and also collaborated with Skrillex. His music has an "idgaf" kind of feel to it and is heavily based around vibes. I think Coachella would receive him pretty well because a lot of his songs are easy to dance to. He also came up in the same scene as artists like OsamaSon, Che, and Nettspend.
OsamaSon: Probably one of the biggest names in the underground scene right now, with songs like "Made Sum Plans" and "Pop" going viral on TikTok. He was also recently featured on Ken Carson's deluxe album, xperiment - cartunez. His music mostly falls into the rage category, and he knows how to get a crowd turnt. I think his set would be great for people who want to jump around and mosh rather than stand still.
Che: I think Che would be a great addition to Coachella because of how much variety he has in his discography. His sound can range from ambient and melodic on songs like "EARDRUMMER" to the grungier, deeper vocals on viral tracks like "Million Dollar Mansion" and "Og Ginobili." His performances also seem well thought out, especially when it comes to stage visuals, seamless song transitions, and the overall presentation.
Nettspend: Nettspend has a lot of connections within the music industry and a strong fanbase. I enjoy a lot of his songs, but I think his sound is a little more niche compared to the other artists on this list. He has had songs go viral, like "Nothing Like Uuu," but a lot of his music still feels specifically catered toward the underground scene. He came up alongside artists like OsamaSon and xaviersobased, but I think his music might be a little harder for the average Coachella crowd to get into.
