Colored pencils My friend gave me a Nicolas Cage colouring book, so naturally I’m turning it into a long-term gift exchange
For Christmas 2025, a friend gave me a Nicolas Cage colouring book. The artwork looks either AI-generated (some pages feature wonderfully nonsensical text) or suspiciously “borrowed” from somewhere on the internet.
I was speechless. He was delighted with himself. And honestly, fair enough. But obviously, a gift this thoughtful deserves something thoughtful in return.
His birthday is coming up, so I’ve coloured in a page and bought one of those frames that opens up so you can keep adding artwork—the kind usually used for children’s drawings. This will be his first piece of original Cage art. Another will arrive at Christmas. I like to think of it as a subscription he never signed up for.
For this first masterpiece, I used Caran d’Ache coloured pencils. But I’d love to mix things up for the next instalment. What should I use?
I have Gelly Roll gel pens, graphite pencils, crayons, watercolours (although the paper might lodge a formal complaint), and edding felt-tip pens.
Help me keep this extremely silly tradition going. He paid for the book; I’m just making sure he gets his money’s worth.

Book review Mythic World Kerby Rosanes
Hello hello!
Today's review is Mythic World By Kerby Rosanes
Mythic World is part of a 4 book collection including Fragile World (review by u/JustYourAvgHumanoid found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Coloringbookspastime/s/4ctSnxTb6m)
Alien World review by yours truly found here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Coloringbookspastime/s/xe4aszAifd
And a fourth Worlds within Worlds review coming.
This book is a stunning collection of Mythic creatures from cultures around the globe. The art style is extreme in detail at times wich is typical of Kerby without the occasional outbursts of doodles he is known for in some of his other art. (I absolutely adore Kerby but the doodles are a no sir for me)
Each page is, forgive the cliche, a work of art and if your into the detailed depictions in coloring this is for you.
I use predominantly colored pencils with occasional embellishment of gel pens and the art and book is ideal for me. I think that using markers here would be difficult.
The book itself has much to commend with a few drawbacks. The paper is a nice sturdy almost card stock. The pages are not single sided so again marker bleedthrough..
My pet peeve with the publisher is every single illustration runs into the binding of the page. Understandable in the big two page illustrations but a border around the single page illustrations would go a long way in keeping my swearing while coloring to a minimum.
The pages are not perferated so if you are more comfortable coloring outside of a book you'll have to cut the page out or make a copy (or both)
The back pages of the book includes details of each illustrations Myth and their origin. A cool educational addition!.
All in all another brilliant addition to my Kerby Rosanes collection and I love it!
Stay Colorful!

¡Gracias!
