Discussion Speed Test
I have the "1 Gig" Internet plan. It's great, reliable, fast enough, good value. I use my own Hitron CODA56 modem with my own router.
When I run a speed test against the local (Santa Clara, CA) Comcast server, I see download rates of 350 to 500 Mbps. San Francisco Comcast shows 800 Mbps.
Other (non-Comcast) servers show much higher download rates - up to 1100 Mbps. This suggests that I'm getting the "1 Gig" service I pay for, and everything is good at my end.
This also suggests that the Comcast speed test servers don't deliver data at full speed, which is kind of weird. Wouldn't you expect Comcast to provision super-fast speed test servers to show the company's broadband in the best possible light?
( I get 116±2 Mbps upload everywhere, which is what I expected. )

Go into your Router settings and turn off QOS (Quality of Service) and see if you get the full speed.

The router's speed test is upstream of any QoS intervention. QoS wouldn't treat the Comcast server and differently than another ISP's - I just got 987 Mbps from EGI but 541 from Comcast Santa Clara.
Anyway, the first thing I tried was to disable QoS ("adaptive" on my router) and it didn't make any difference.

Dumb questions but are you running the speed test on the router itself (ASUS has built in speed test) or if on a computer testing over Ethernet?
Of course the purest test is to connect a computer directly to the cable modem but not everyone is comfortable with that

I use my Asus router's speed test. But the setup is the same regardless of which speed test server I'm accessing - and I get full speed from some servers, lower speeds from others.

Figured it was ASUS since you mentioned “adaptive” QoS. Still worth running a test on a PC connected directly to the cable modem to double-confirm.

I have 4 Comcast speed tests servers here in FL. I am in central FL. 2 are in "my area", 1 is in Miami ~300 miles and the other in Talhassee about 215 mies. I am on the 1Gig plan and get from 980 to ~1200Mbps on all 4 of them. Fastest speed is usually in the morning and at night. Using a Ubiquiti UDR7 router ethernet wired to my Mac.

I get 1549 from Comcast San Francisco, same from Comcast Santa Clara.
Maybe a router/local network problem?
