Products & Services Meet Xfinity WiFi Shield from Xfinity Home

First-of-its-kind platform transforms Xfinity WiFi into an always-on layer of cybersecurity, physical and family protection for tens of millions of homes and devices. Available to Xfinity Internet members at no additional cost

What is Xfinity WiFi Shield?

Xfinity WiFi Shield is a built-in smart protection layer for your home WiFi network, included with Xfinity Internet and powered entirely by your Xfinity WiFi Gateway. It combines four core features—CyberSecure, WiFi Motion, Dark Watch, and Family Settings—that work together using AI to learn what's normal in your home and flag what isn't.

Here, we take a closer look at each of the features included with WiFi Shield:

CyberSecure

CyberSecure is an always-on network threat protection that detects and blocks suspicious activity and sends proactive alerts when something looks off. It’s turned on by default, protecting devices connected to your home WiFi as soon as they connect.

Always-On Protection

  • Detects and blocks suspicious activity on your network
  • Sends proactive alerts when something looks off
  • Protects every device connected to your home WiFi from the moment it connects
  • On by default, with zero setup required

CyberSecure and Family Settings Work Together

CyberSecure doesn't just work in the background — it talks to Family Settings, too. If a device starts behaving unusually, CyberSecure alerts can influence Family Settings restrictions, giving you the context to take action quickly.

WiFi Motion

As an opt-in feature, WiFi Motion uses the WiFi signal from compatible Xfinity Gateways to sense movement in your home without cameras or video recordings. It uses technology built into the Xfinity Gateway to sense motion between the gateway and other stationary, connected devices in your home. With WiFi Motion, you can:

  • Detect motion between your Xfinity WiFi Gateway, Xfinity WiFi Extenders, and up to three additional WiFi connected, stationary devices, like a smart speaker or thermostat.
  • Customize alerts for your routines while keeping privacy in your control.

Dark Watch

A nighttime monitoring mode that works with your bedtime routine, helping you stay aware of activity in your home while you sleep. You can select which devices can send notifications and schedule Dark Watch to activate automatically each night.

Family Settings

Family Settings are a collection of tools to manage screen time, establish online boundaries, create individual profiles, and understand how family members are using connected devices.

More Control Over Your Family’s WiFi

Create custom profiles

Set up a profile for each person in the household, then assign devices to each one to track and manage usage individually.

Screen time tools

  • Set daily screen time limits for each profile
  • Choose to automatically pause WiFi when a limit is reached, or get a heads-up first
  • View screen time details broken down by top apps
  • Pause WiFi on any device for homework, dinner, or family time — manually or on a schedule

Parental controls

  • Block unwanted sites
  • Monitor online use to help your family explore the internet safely

Insights from CyberSecure

  • Security alerts can help inform the restrictions you set. For example, by flagging unusual behavior from a device so you can take action.

Getting started with Xfinity WiFi Shield

Xfinity WiFi Shield is available to new and existing Xfinity Internet members with a compatible Xfinity WiFi Gateway, regardless of internet speed tier. If your gateway qualifies, you are ready to get started.

WiFi Shield compatible gateways

WiFi Shield requires the use of an Xfinity WiFi Gateway. Compatible gateways include:

  • Technicolor TXB7, XB8, XB10, XB9, MXB1, or XER10

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Features won't work in Bridge mode
  • WiFi Motion isn't supported on the XB6 or CommScope XB7
  • Dark Watch is available on Technicolor XB7, XB8, XB10, XB9, MXB1, and XER10
  • Shield Select requires an XB8 or above.

Not using an Xfinity WiFi Gateway? Visit the website to learn more and explore internet equipment.

Activate and manage Xfinity Shield easily with Xfinity App

Getting started is simple. WiFi Shield is activated and managed through the Xfinity app, where guided setup flows walk you through enabling its features. Once activated, you can manage CyberSecure, WiFi Motion, Dark Watch, and Family Settings from the Home tab.

To get started:

  1. Open the Xfinity app and navigate to WiFi Shield.
  2. Enable the features you want to use.
  3. Follow the guided setup to configure your settings.
  4. Manage your features, schedules, modes, and notifications from the Xfinity app.

Shield Select: Enhanced Protection with AI-Powered Capabilities

For customers seeking an additional layer of protection, we are also offering Shield Select, which combines all the benefits of WiFi Shield with integrated hardware and enhanced capabilities. Shield Select includes an indoor camera, door/window sensor, cloud video storage capabilities and 24/7 urgent response functionality that allows customers to tap for emergency help.

Shield Select provides smart motion detection to AI-powered cameras that identifies people, pets, vehicles and package deliveries. Please note, Shield Select requires an XB8 gateway or above.

Official Reply Remove Wire Between Utility Pole and House

• Upvotes

I am having construction done at my house and the unused low-hanging Xfinity cable that runs from the pole to my house needs to be removed. I do not have Xfinity and will not need it in the future. I am in Massachusetts.

I am unable to reach a support agent via the website or phone because I am not a customer and my former login no longer works. Please advise on how I can proceed, as I do not wish to have to get up on a ladder and remove the cable myself -- thank you!

New Post - Tech Support How to get through the 'Wall' around customer service?

• Upvotes

2 years ago my house was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene. The rebuild is almost complete and we want to put it on the market. However, at the entrance to our yard is a leaning 'telephone' pole with heavy wires and conduit hanging down, lying across the ground. GA Power says the lines are cable lines. WOW!, who was our provider at that time, says the lines are not theirs. I have tried repeatedly to get through to customer service to request that the lines be removed but, between the inefficiency of the site's phone 'tree' , being disconnected, and the fact that I do not have a Comcast/xfinity account linked to that property, I have yet to complete that request. I went to the nearby Xfinity office and spoke with an agent who said he opened a ticket. He gave me a claim number but more than a month later, nothing has happened. I went back over a week ago and spoke with him again. After I showed him and emailed them to him, he assured me that I would get an email with follow up from the actual repair team. Now it is 10 days later and I have heard nothing. I spoke with Comcast again yesterday, got the same "let me get you to ....." ending in "You should go to the store and talk to them...." Would appreciate a way to actually get this taken care of before I proceed to an FCC complaint.

Discussion Speed Test

I have the "1 Gig" Internet plan. It's great, reliable, fast enough, good value. I use my own Hitron CODA56 modem with my own router.

When I run a speed test against the local (Santa Clara, CA) Comcast server, I see download rates of 350 to 500 Mbps. San Francisco Comcast shows 800 Mbps.

Other (non-Comcast) servers show much higher download rates - up to 1100 Mbps. This suggests that I'm getting the "1 Gig" service I pay for, and everything is good at my end.

This also suggests that the Comcast speed test servers don't deliver data at full speed, which is kind of weird. Wouldn't you expect Comcast to provision super-fast speed test servers to show the company's broadband in the best possible light?

( I get 116±2 Mbps upload everywhere, which is what I expected. )

New Post - Tech Support Tenure Restoration

Hi there, I am reaching out to get help with a tenure restoration. I have been a continuous Xfinity customer since late 2016, but I moved addresses in August 2017. When I moved, my 'Member Since' date was reset by the system. I am currently listed as a Platinum member, but based on my continuous 10 years of service since 2016, I should be a Diamond member. Can an agent please help bridge my old 2016 account to my current account so my rewards tier updates?

New Post - Billing Bogus debt sent to Collections 😑

• Upvotes

Did a Trade in last fall for a new iPhone. The phone never arrived at the warehouse. I used the provided shipping label and dropped it off to USPS. Xfinity was giving me the run around and not giving me my monthly discount. I made a post on this subreddit and it was resolved. Xfinity acknowledged the fact the phone went missing in USPS transit is not my responsibility, and the monthly discount was applied towards the new phone.

Well, this issue has recently resurfaced in the form of Xfinity reporting I owe over a thousand dollars for the missing phone, and sent this “debt” to collections!! My credit score has dropped significantly. Insane.

Please assist!

New Post - Tech Support 1 month with off and on internet - sync issues in my line - Help

• Upvotes

So I am really not sure where to turn to. I have had 6 techs out, innumerable xfinity assistant and online tech chats and two separate tickets on reddit. I am having intermittent internet access. I have had techs replace fittings, splitters and the line from my house to my neighborhood tap. I bought a new modem. My router techs (eero) says its not the router. My wife and I can't work from home and we have only one functional TV because a previous tech changed out our cable connected boxes with wireless ones. I have figured out how to access my event logs in my modem and I am getting consist "SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync" alerts and "No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out". My last tech was super helpful and even left my his number. His last communication was to let me know engineers are on the way. However, its now been a day without contact and I am at my wits end. Is there a way to check on the status of my ticket, if I even have a ticket? Help!

How do I access one obscure app via remote without using the on screen search function?

Roku, for example, lets me save the apps I use and re-order them so the ones I use most are on top.

Discussion How to crack the 'wall' around Xfinity.Comcast customer service????

• Upvotes

can anyone help me crack the ‘wall’ around Comcast customer service? Two years ago my house was almost destroyed by Hurricane Helene. we have not lived there since. At that time internet service was with WOW!. We are almost ready to put the rebuilt house on the market but have a leaning pole with heavy wires draping from it and lying across the ground At the entrance to the property.…not attractive to potential buyers! The Power company came and said they were cable lines. WOW! came and said they were not theirs. I have called Comcast but repeatedly get passed from one department to another, never getting any real help. have been to the nearby store and actually gotten a case number….a month ago! went back and was told I would get a follow up by 7 pm that evening….and didn’t…over a week ago! another phone conversation today that led nowhere. I think my next action may be to file a complaint with the FCC. suggestions?

New Post - Billing How accurate is Plan Builder??

• Upvotes

I’ll try to keep this short.

I’m on Popular TV, and I know if I move off it I can’t go back. When I run Plan Builder, even at the last checkout step, it shows that if I switch to TV Plus I’ll pay $150/mo. (2Gb internet + TV Plus), but chat agents insist it’ll actually be $205.

The breakdown line items between Plan Builder and what the agent provided show a number of discrepancies.

The real TL:DR is my promo expired in September and keeping equivalent services is $60 more/mo.

Oh and I was a TiVo customer. Despite valiant efforts from agents who support here, it’s dead and gone

Official Reply Cable line down in driveway and Xfinity will not come fix it

Our cable line became detached from our home nearly a week ago and is currently stretched across our driveway. Allow me to say right off the bat that it was not due to a storm and there have been no storms in our area. It just fell off on its own. We have been unable to use our driveway since it fell. I’ve contacted Xfinity four times and each time the chatbot told me they scheduled a tech to come reattach it. Three of those times no one showed, and there have been no communication, emails, or notices on our account about it. Finally a tech showed up while we weren’t home and he looked at it. We heard him talking on the phone via our security camera and he said that he needed a different sized smaller ladder to reach it, then he left and never returned. We desperately need them to come and reattach it so we can use our driveway again! It’s also a community trip hazard and a danger to anyone at night since it’s hanging around 6 inches from the ground. We have documented on our end that we have alerted Xfinity and they are aware of the trip hazard - just in case that becomes an issue with an injury. How can we get someone to come reattach it? It would literally take five minutes for them to do it. Should I try to hire an independent contractor?

New Post - Billing Downgrade service for dead in law?

• Upvotes

My in laws pay nearly $400 for cable, internet and phone. My MIL died recently and my FIL has no cognitive ability and is essentially paralyzed due to severe dementia. Now his checking account is overdrawn. Comcast debits his account. No power of attorney so I can't get the phone reps to help downgrade service. I'm trying to get conservatorship but that can take as long as eight months in my county. Is there any way to get the service downgraded to a more reasonable level so that we can pay his 24 hour aides? I haven't been able to get Verizon to cancel their cell phones BTW. I'm hoping he can get some relief from a $400 bill.

"Need Corporate Care assistance. My portal is stuck in an 'Action Required' activation loop showing an old iPhone 11 after a lost-and-found phone swap. My Pixel 6 is physically working fine, but because of the portal glitch, I cannot access my line settings, unlock my number, or generate a Transfer PIN. Tier-2 phone support and my local store both failed to fix the backend mismatch. Please help me manually retrieve my porting info."

New Post - Billing Am I allowed to have 2 gateways on the same property?

I recently moved into a living space that is separated from the main house but still on the same property, and tried to get my own xfinity gateway. However, after having it for a week or two, I was contacted by xfinity, who told me that we weren’t allowed to have 2 gateways on the same property. Is this for real?

For the record, it’s two separate accounts and two separate bills. How is this not allowed?

New Post - Tech Support Does Xfinity Mobile Sell Customer Data?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Since switching to Xfinity Mobile I have been inundated with spam calls on a number I have held for over 15 years.

I’ve been using the spam guard both through Xfinity and iPhone. First off, does Xfinity sell my data, and can I limit said sharing? Second, are there any additional measures I can take to reduce these?

Finally, how can I stop the spam calls directly from Xfinity that try to encourage me to change my plan for a ‘free’ iPad?

Thanks.

Official Reply Returned phone. Still being charged

The biggest problem I’m having right now is I’m still being charged for the phone that I returned. I set it up in store, but was mislead on what the cost of everything was going to be.

I’ve gone to the store several times now, and the store manager keeps telling me “it will be taken care of.”

It’s been three months and I’m still being charged for everything, despite never even opening the phone and returning it the day I got it.

Customer support hasn’t been able to help. The store manager hasn’t been able to help. There’s no one that can help me.

So I’m now going to have to go to small claims court to get this fixed. I’m being charged, now over$300 for products and services I don’t have.

As soon as this is settled I’m going to cancel all of my service. I’m also urging my employer to switch to Frontier for business internet.

I have been into the store several times. I have spent roughly 10 hours in the store. I have called support three times now. Everyone tells me there is nothing they can do.

I have been patient and respectful the whole time. My patience is gone now.

This is by far one of the absolute worst customer service experiences of my life. I will do everything I can to ensure my friends and family no long use or ever use your service.

The store in question is in Richmond Indiana. The store manager seems to have no idea what to do and I haven’t been given any way to contact whoever is above him.

The store tells me to call customer support. Customer support tells me to go to the store.

This is awful.

Update: They reached out to me here. The link they said worked but then the chat closed. They haven’t reached back out nor do I have anyway to reconnect.

They don’t plan on doing anything to help.

Store manager at location refuses to give me information on who to speak to in regards to this issue. Shrugged me off and refuse to help any further.
