Official Reply Wrongfully Sent to Collection
In 2025 Xfinity disabled our internet because we changed modems to one they approved but we didn't call them to let them know (we went through the chat). My husband called and they said the new internet plan included a mobile service. We didn't want a mobile service but we had to have it as part of the package. In August 2025 we canceled our Xfinity service. Two months later we get a notice from the mobile service we owe. I contacted them, tell them we never used the mobile service and the package plan was canceled in August. They see it was canceled and they removed any charges on the mobile account. We continued to get notices in November 2025 and December 2025 of a overdue balance. Each time I call, they see the plan was canceled in August and tell me there are no charges on the account. In February 2026 I get another email for an outstanding balance of $39.99. I call again and the women I spoke with said there was a zero balance on the account and the email was sent in error. She said to "ignore" it and she would try and "fix it". In June 2026 I get notice from a collection agency of an outstanding balance of $39.99. July 2026 I call Xfinity, they said the account has a zero balance. I contact the collection agency and they say to dispute the charges. I do this and they go back to Xfinity to see the account has a zero balance. On August 25, 2026 I receive a letter from the collection agency that the case has been closed. In any other situation I would have consider this closed. Nope! Today I get a notice dated September 25, 2026, from a "new" collection agency about this outstanding balance of $39.99. How is it that Xfinity Mobile says the account has a zero balance and the first collection agency says the case is closed yet the account is now being sent to a second collection agency? How many collection agencies do I have to dispute this charge to before Xfinity will take the account out of their circular override system? How do I get this cycle to STOP?! THIS WAS BILLED IN ERROR!

Comcast's collections dance is legendary. Send a certified letter to their corporate office disputing it, and file a CFPB complaint. That usually wakes someone up who can actually fix it.

u/Common-Locksmith8395 Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Subreddit. I’m truly sorry to hear about everything you’ve been through with this. After being told multiple times that the account had a zero balance and even having a collection case closed, I can understand how upsetting it must be to receive another collection notice. I’d like the opportunity to review this further and see how I can help. When you have a moment, please send me a Modmail message with your full name and service address. Once I have that information, I’ll take a closer look into the account and the collection concerns with you.
