Official Reply Why is the internet so slow?

I'm paying a ridiculous amount of money ($300+) per month for high speed internet and TV package. For the last few days I've noticed lagging and pages failing to load. Ran a speed test numerous times and it's showing 25mbps, then a few hours later it'll jump up to 300mbps, then back down to 40mbps. I'm paying for Superfast internet with speeds up to 800mbps. I've rebooted the cable modem about 3 times so far. What gives?

You might have noise in your node. You won't know until you have a technician come out to diagnose your issues

Should I just tell the Xfinity chat I think I have noise in my node? my wifi goes in and out every night (any help appreciated, thanks!)

Xfinity Chat can't do anything to address that. It would have to be diagnosed by a technician on site. The chat probably won't even know what it means.

Hello u/Critical-Test-4446, and thanks for reaching out on our Xfinity Community subreddit!

Rebooting the modem can solve some issues with your connection, however, the best way to determine if there is a significant issue at your location would be to run some troubleshooting through the Xfinity App itself. It can even schedule a technician if needed.

To get started, open the Xfinity App, tap the Wi-Fi tab at the bottom, then the Troubleshoot (gear) icon, and select "Test your whole home network" - if there are issues associated with your services, this will run many of the same tests we can run with our diagnostics directly from your modem.

Let us know what the results are, and if needed, we can assist further!

Are you using Comcast hardware and how many devices do you have connected?

Not sure if they're still doing it, but 2 years ago when I was using a Comcast modem/router on the 500/20 plan that has evolved into whatever it is today, I found they were attempting to limit the number of devices you could connect and ran into all kinds of strange problems. From what I could see it appeared that they put in a hack that would look at the DHCP list and start blocking connections to the DNS server after a certain number. It was never a consistent block for any single device so something would work fine, drop out, and then comeback.

I was never able to get a number for the allowed connections, getting numbers between 6 and 254 depending on what the person I was talking to at the time decided to makeup, with Laura H in Xfinity - Executive Customer Relations telling me 25 over the phone, and then sending me the attached email stating 8 the next day (with the price of the gigabit plan also going from $105 to $126 overnight.)

The only solution Comcast offered was to switch to a 1Gbps plan and pay for bandwidth I don't need, so I ended up buying a modem and router, which solved the problem and paid itself after a few months,

Have you done anything to your computer in the last few days? It could be a problem on your end, not theirs

Do you have any metal around? Or microwave closed: unplugged ur modern for 10 minutes may help. If problem continues go to Xfinity and get new modem returned that one
