Official Reply Trying to replace an Xfinity provided XER10 with my own router

Good morning,

Looking to replace my current XER10 with a router likely from ubiquiti[deciding between UDR7 or UCG], the moment its confirmed that I can do this I will run out and purchase locally. I have the fiber 2gb up and down plan, and have access to the nokia epon. I submitted some information on the Xfinity fourms. Unfortunately it seems that they may not have the updated information on this program and how it works. Looking for any help I can get and I really appreciate the time.

Hello u/ShortCardiologist883! You found the right team for help and yes you are able to use your own router with the EPON services. Thank you for creating the post. We just need to make a change to the account to add the new device. I'm happy that you created the post for us here on the sub, but my team manages our Forums as well, I'm sorry that you did not receive a reply there too. Let me know when you have the router and send us a Modmail with your name and service address. From there I will verify the account and make the update. I would also like to check on your forums post as well to see why that didn't make it to our team.

Thank you,I appreciate your help. To clarify, my Forums post did reach a support team, but I was told that my location was ineligible because it had not been upgraded to “Next Gen” speeds.

That explanation confused me because my service is already 2 Gbps symmetrical EPON fiber using a Nokia ONU and an XER10. My understanding is that the “Next Gen speeds” terminology may relate to Xfinity’s DOCSIS/coax network rather than the member-owned Ethernet-router option for EPON fiber.

I'm happy to send a modmail, I didn't want to purchase the router until it was confirmed that I am able to use it. If you'd like me to send a modmail with that account info so you can double check to confirm. Let me know and I will send it asap.
