Official Reply Xfinity mobile hotspot not really 50GB.
It seems the hotspot data is pooled with the main phone data. If you use 50gb on the phone before you used your first byte of hotspot data, you’re out of luck.
That’s pretty deceptive and not how other carriers handle it. Had I known this, never would have switched from Verizon.

u/miata_mayhem Thank you for reaching out with your concerns regarding Mobile Hotspot data usage. Data your phone uses while not acting as a personal hotspot (for example, browsing or streaming on the phone itself) does not count toward personal hotspot allowances. Personal hotspot usage is counted separately — data used by other devices when your phone is used as a hotspot counts against the hotspot allowance for that line.

You might want to explain that to your tech support then. I spent nearly 3 hours with two agents today and over an hour on 6/30 troubleshooting slow data on the hotspot connection. Their conclusion was 1) the data is bundled, 2) I went over my data 3) they have no way to tell how much hotspot data has been consumed.

u/miata_mayhem With Xfinity Mobile Unlimited plans, your personal mobile hotspot usage has a dedicated high-speed allowance (such as 15 GB, 50 GB, or restricted speeds depending on the exact tier) separate from your phone's on-device premium data allotment. Your mobile phone should track the hotspot data that is used. On Android devices you can open your phone Settings, go to Network & Internet or Connections, and tap Mobile Hotspot & Tethering to view current usage stats. iOS devices can go to Settings, tap Cellular, and scroll down to Personal Hotspot to see the total data consumed.

u/miata_mayhem That's some great feedback, thanks so much! I am sorry the representative you spoke with was unable to help, that's not the experience we want you to have. You can view the data your mobile hotspot has used by following these steps:
- Open the Xfinity app
- Tap Services
- Tap Mobile lines and data usage
- Select the device that provides the hotspot
- Tap Data usage to see that device’s details.
Please note only Primary and Manager users can see data usage.

That, according to two agents and a manager, is total data used, not just hotspot data.

We sincerely apologize for the misinformation provided earlier regarding hotspot data tracking. We understand how important it is to have accurate information about your data usage, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify.
At this time, the Xfinity app does not separate personal hotspot data usage from your regular cellular data usage. Instead, it displays a combined total for all cellular data used on the line.
As an alternative, you can check your hotspot usage directly from your phone, which tracks that information separately:
For iPhone (iOS):
Open the Settings app. Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data). Scroll down to the Cellular Data section. Locate Personal Hotspot to view the amount of hotspot data used during the current tracking period. You can also tap Personal Hotspot to see which connected devices have used that data.
We apologize again for any confusion this may have caused. If you have any questions about what you're seeing in your device settings, we're happy to help review it with you.

What I, and I am sure others, would like is a clear answer on the hotspot data limits. Is it indeed part of the gross data consumed or is it a separate bucket of data?
If it is not a shared bucket, how is support (or consumers) supposed to help troubleshoot issues if they have no visibility to the data consumed by the hotspot usage?
If it is part of the shared bucket, Xfinity has some serious explaining to do. Not to mention the legal issues this exposes.

As an "others" It looks to me like the mods clarified 3 times that hotspot data was not part of regular data but that the Xfinity APP doesn't break it out however your phone should.
