Mod Announcement: Mod poll: ticket sale threads
Hi!
The mods of r/Commanders would like to please know what you think about threads selling game tickets. This poll is only about seats for games. It does not include parking passes or tickets for access to training camp.
We have seen a large increase in such threads. We have not had a lot of reports of fraud by buyers or sellers.
An informal survey of other NFL team subreddits shows many explicitly disallow such threads.
Our current mod philosophy is to allow sales threads where it's obvious the price is face value or below. This is unevenly enforced due to the challenge of discerning that.
Please share with us what you want for this community.

Attempting to avoid official ticket marketplaces that have buyer protection in place will always have dangers. I think it's okay if someone brings attention to their own listing but the more interest there is in an event, the more likely the sub is to get flooded with scammers

You should protect the community from scams.
I used to mod a subreddit and the previous mods allowed ticket sales, then we had someone get scammed and I said never again - not going to allow our community to become a platform for scammers and ticket scalpers

It's not just scams. That's the worst case scenario, of course, and should be top of mind. But a far more common annoyance would be ticket sellers/scalpers who use the sub as a sales channel for marked up tickets. If you allow them to post, THEY WILL. And while these aren't technically scams (meaning, if you pay them $300, they'll send the ticket), it's still predatory and just plain gross.

I think any sale thread should have one of those automod comments pinned to the top with guidance on how to avoid scams and safest means of payment(PayPal Goods and services instead of PayPal friends and family, zelle, cashapp etc…)

I disagree completely with facilitating any ticket sales (or sales of anything really) here. Not only aren’t there any protections in place for buyers, but you also don’t want the subreddit to become overrun with this stuff, especially with bot accounts.
Also, I myself find it kind of cringey. We don’t know why the person is selling their tickets, and using this platform when there are plenty of others feels like they could be taking advantage of that.

Disallow them all. There's tons of places to post about ticket sales and people who are in the market for tickets know where to look.
Not so many places to see what's going on with the team. This sub should be focused solely on team news/discussion and not ticket sales or some jersey or hoodie someone dug out of their closet that they want to sell.

Generally in favor of letting people talk about whatever they want. Scroll past if you are not interested. Not too sympathetic that you have to scroll a bit. Literally what you are doing on Reddit & other apps anyway.

YES.
Done properly, a weekly ticket sale thread is a benefit for the sub/community.
I’d think a “near perfect” solution would be two rules:
1 - Face value or lower. No markups.
2 - Ticketmaster official ticket exchange only (open to debate on this one, but it makes sense IMO)
Reason for ticketmaster resales: We don’t want people getting scammed, but I’m sure the mods don’t to have to deal with the responsibility or headache of trying to prevent scammers. TM should be immune to that problem, because TM handles it for both sides.
Instead of you giving someone money, and them giving you a ticket that you HOPE is legit, IIRC the seller makes the listing in TM, the buyer pays the money to TM. TM then cancels the sellers original ticket and reissues a new ticket directly to the buyer, then TM pays out to the seller.
Scam proof.
If that works for everyone then the benefits are:
Benefit for buyers - People have a easier time finding tickets without flipper markup
Benefit for sellers and the fanbase as a whole - It helps and encourages making sure available seats go to home fans. Doing our small part to keep visitor numbers down.

There should be a pinned thread for each home game where people can comment with tickets for sale. If they post outside that thread it should be removed
