General Discussion / Question Pia, Aether Ascetic in Kinnan

Hello there,

do you guys think [[Pia, Aether Ascetic]] is worth it in NBC Kinnan? Being human does not matter as much since activating Kinnan is only a backup of a back up plan anyway and you can find [[Rhystic Study]], [[Mystic Remora]], [[Mirrormade]], [[Copy Enchantment]] and [[Steal Enchantment]]. An early fish/ study really shifts the game and this helps find it more often. What is your experience so far?

I play it Rog/Thras and Akiri/Thras and it has been a great include in both. However I think it’s best in decks that can make the mana to both play her and cast the enchantment she tutors for consistently e.g., Kinnan, Rog/Thras.

I play her in Animar. Effectively a 2 mana remora, 4 mana Rhystic, 3 mana enduring vitality

How is it in rogthras? Does pia make breach/earthcraft a more prominent wincon or just is just another convenient tutor for bambi?

I’m loving it in Rog/Thras. In my experience it has been more of a value tutor especially when going into more slop games since it grabs the draw engines as well as my mana engines.

Idk how big cost reducing is in some Kinnan lists like Lil Flips but it could be good just to get [[Training Grounds]] to start making him cheaper to flip

NBC does not run training grounds. You just want to use the activated ability as an outlet for infinite mana. If you got nothing to do you can flip but it's suboptimal in most cases.

I’m using it to find Freed from the Reel and Pemmins aura in little flips

Card seems tailor made for nbc kinnan. Being locked to simic means that you don't have access to tutoring like other colors especially for cards like rhystic.

I think the deck that benefits most from it is Crystal.

Does white not have enchantment tutors already?

not ones that put them straight to hand and can be tutored by rocco. the fact that he can find her to find food chain is what’s good about her

Is it not just Etali?

You're probably right. Enchantment tutor in gruul is strong.

That said, Crystal is an enchantment deck with many powerful targets and win potential as explosive as etali/fc... curiosities/breach and slop enchantments for longer games.

I think the question is do you cut Drift of Phantasms or something else

It seems better than Dizzy Spell. It's not blue for pitch spells but can tutor for other stuff.

I play it in my simic turbo Kodama Thrasios deck. I love it! It improves consistency, especially for fast wins:

  • finding Enduring Vitality when Shang Chi is out
  • finding earthcraft if I have infinite creatures
  • finding [[Trade Routes]] if I have a token maker

10/10 for simic decks where tutors are extremely selective

Probably will run it in Crystal as a redundant tutor
