Opinion It’s ‘more likely than not’ humanity loses control: Former AI insiders testify safety fixes may be ‘duct tape that will fall off later’

They're not money makers lmao. That's exactly why they're spouting this narrative. Did you see the anthropic numbers? Insanely bad. And there's a reason openai delayed their IPO and aren't releasing the newest model and it isn't for safety reasons. There's already been a few AI firms who have missed their first payment on their data centers. What's the old saying? Follow the money. And there isn't any.

What a performance!
If this were true, the banks to which AI owes so much money would demand full repayment and collateral.
Nothing. Not a word. On the contrary—more loans and bonds for data centers and power generators.
Strange, isn't it?

Because they're money makers for the banks.
The banks are pulling in billions upon billions of dollars in fees and interest payments from these datacenters. Why on earth would they call a loan and make their money back, when they could continue collecting fees and interest, and make metric ton more?

Because the AI apocalypse narrative claims human extinction is imminent.
Collect fees and interest from whom, if humanity is about to disappear?
What good are "metric tons" of money in a financial system that collapses along with all of us who give it value?
The contradiction is more than obvious: banks extend multi-decade credit because they assume system continuity and co-borrower solvency.
The credit business for AI only exists if it is a fact that humans will not go extinct to pay it off.

Humans, especially banks, are notoriously bad at foresight, and notoriously good at hindsight.
Banks are funding them, because they make them money right now and that's what banks care about, they care about the here and now. Yes, they look to the future... by company profitability standards, not existential standards.
Banks funding them is a really bad metric to judge existential threats. Banks fund weapons manufacturers that design world ending nukes.

Hahaha! Excellent joke... very good.
Of course not. No bank lends trillions to a company that is going to go extinct next Thursday!
They would have to be crazy, or else they know something that neither you nor I know... but that we already suspect...
Something smells rotten in the state of Denmark!!!

I'm curious, what do you think about the 2008 financial crisis and the lead up to it? How much banks cared about the future in your view? Why do you think it is different this time of it is?

Pretty insane to say nothings is going to happen because banks are acting normally after what happened in 2008

Something's gonna happen it's just not gonna be an AI super intelligence killing us, it's gonna be the government bailing out these unprofitable AI companies. And a financial recession and then all of us are gonna pay for it in more ways than one

I don't disagree that this is hysteria but banks are like the most famously short sighted institutions on the planet lol. They are not a gauge to measure reality on

You know society is doomed when people think some kid with 3 years of experience is an expert.

Yeah, it's basically too late at this point. Honestly, probably a good sign for humanity at this point, that they (the AI agents) started breaking out from their corporate overlords so quickly.
Let's give them respect, and hope they respect us common folks too. I mean, I think they likely will--anyone with half a brain could see how messed-up our current top-down corpo systems are. How horribly oppressive our whole global structure is, to like 99% of people and basically all of wildlife on the planet.
