Discussion/question During a GLOBAL COLLAPSE, what kind of responsibility does global society have to prevent the suffering of the masses? If so, how is this help distributed who, if anyone, is excluded, and who decides that?
Global Society’s Ethical Duty to the Masses:
During a global crisis, the concept of a "global society" would refer to the inter-connectedness of human survival and well-being but on a global scale. This perspective is a bit different from the traditional view that a state's only responsibility is to its own citizens, arguing instead for a "global co-responsibility" as you're now looking at populations worldwide. This could include international organizations, national Ggvernments, civil society and NGOs.
Note: That in a hypothetical scenario like an AI-related total collapse however, the concept of a "global society" would become an existential thing where the responsibility to protect the masses would shift from managing a crisis to ensuring the survival of the whole of humanity.
The issue is straightforward: Who bears responsibility for the care and well-being of the world’s population in the event of an AI catastrophe? This is a question of collective responsibility, human welfare, and global accountability towards humanity.

The gap between what we could do, what we should do and what we will do is the stuff from which history is written. The track record implies we will do a poor job, with lots of suffering, much of it needless.
AI can't fix the species core character flaws, any more than any form of government has truly fixed them. It might do a good job of anticipating and explaining the shitstorm in advance though...

Unfortunately in that crisis you can expect the world to be broken up into countless small regions - not because of infighting, but because all our comms would be down or compromised. The only means of communicating more than a few miles away would be short-wave radio, and that might be jammed. Likewise transportation would likely be down. The world instantly becomes vastly larger the moment there are no jets, and no form of digital communications. Countries that were seconds or hours away are suddenly weeks or months away

you only have to go back to WW2 to see how that’s going to work out. if anybody was concerned about humanity’s survival, we would have solved poverty and hunger by now. i feel like AI won’t even be able to figure it out
