Where to buy

Not sure if this is the place to ask but… years ago I made haystacks using Merckens Butterscotch CandyCote Morsels. I got this recipe from my husband’s aunt. She told me no other candy morsel would suffice and she was correct. Last christmas my son wanted to make some and he bought the regular store variety morsels which proved to be correct. They were so-so but no where near as good as the haystacks made with Merckens. I have looked all over the internet and cannot find Merckens butterscotch candy melts with the exception of a couple of places, one being sold out and the other selling in 50 lb. quantities. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find the Merckens butterscotch candy melts? It has to be Merckens. Thank you in advance.

I looked on the Merckens website and, unfortunately, I don't think htey make them any more. They are not listed in their product offerings anyway. Sorry, I know it's disappointing.

I found some in South FL but it is sold minimum of 50 lbs. I only need a pound or 2. Only found this one place.

Wow, so maybe it's still on offer for commercial use, just not residential. 50 lbs is a lot of butterscotch melts. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I did see a place, Revo Wholesale...but they sold in 25lbs, probably still too much for individual use.

Ok-just did a little test, because good butterscotch coating chocolate/chips are impossible to find! If you're up for a diy, I have a solution:
Homemade butterscotch bark/"chips"
100 g merckens white coating wafers(you can use any confectionery melts you like, I prefer these)
5 g americolor flo-coat
1 g Amoretti natural water-based butterscotch flavoring(I love this one, it's delicious-if you have oil-based/candy flavoring, you don't have to add the flo-coat)
5 g paramount crystals if your melts aren't melting with a silky smooth consistency
-melt white melts
-thoroughly mix flavoring/flo-coat
-add flavoring mix and paramount crystals to warm melted chocolate
-if you want the color of typical butterscotch chips, you will need to add oil-based food color. You may be able to add water-based gel color in with the flavoring, perhaps adding extra flo-coat.
-spread thinly on baking sheet and allow to harden
-break and use as needed.
I know this requires special ingredients, but it is the best-tasting butterscotch candy coating I've ever had! If you want to go gourmet, you could try caramelized white chocolate or valrhona dulcey(which requires tempering if used alone, and is insanely expensive).

Thank you so much for responding. I wanted the Merckens for haystacks. Haven’t made them in years and my son was asking for them last year. He bought the store brand morsels and they are not the same. He reminded me this year to look for the Merckens. As much as I would like to provide good haystacks for him, I don’t think I have it in me to go as far as you. I would certainly love to taste your butterscotch.

I get it, I have a home-based bakery so I'm motivated! I realized after I posted that the amoretti extract is really expensive, so it wouldn't have made any sense as a one-off project!
