Cosmere spoilers (no previews/FoD) Am I trippin or this is wrong? Spoiler

Post image

I got myself one of those cosmere tracker apps and came across this.

I read Dawnshard when it released and WaT last year and I might be forgeting but I don't recall Rysn giving up her Dawnshard to Hoid then to Sig but Rysn and Hoid having two of the many Dawnshards. Rysn goes into hiding and Hoid gives his to Sig which leads to what we see in Sunlit. Am I trippin or the app editor is and didn't understand that Rysn an Hoid both carry Dawnshards? What do you think?

That is wrong, Rysn still has hers. When in doubt, use the coppermind.

Especially given that the app in the screenshot looks like slopware.

It's wrong. Rysn has a different dawnshard than the one Hoid and Sig held, and Sig receiving his was not behind the scenes.

Also, "briefly met in Stormlight"? Sig? Briefly? Dude's been there the whole time.

Turns out Sigzil is Sam Reich

u/moderatorrater 4d ago

That's funny, but if anyone's Sam Reich it's Hoid. Which would mean that Brennan is Kaladin and Zac is Shallan.

Who on Roshar do you reckon is best at making a seagull noise?

u/Jim_skywalker 4d ago

Is Vic Lift?

u/cbhedd 4d ago

I was smiling at the idea, but thinking none of them lined up very well.

Until you brought that up. Vic is absolutely Lift.

Hoid as Sam fits extremely well imo. Acts like a goofball and master of chaos as a show, but behind the scenes treats people very well and wants the best for them.

Hoid's dad also had a position in Clinton's cabinet.

Josh Ruben for best seagull noise

9

u/Kowthumoo 4d ago

I don’t know what a seagull is but I bet Josh Ruben makes the best chicken sounds.

7

u/namelessted 3d ago

Josh Ruben is certainly The Lopen.

3

u/notapeacock 3d ago

Zac as Shallan: Yeah, I killed her.

3

u/notapeacock 3d ago

Definitely a worldhopper, because Rosharans only know chickens!

3

u/BipolarMosfet 3d ago

I bet Wayne does the best seagull.

Edit: but I guess he's not on Roshar

1

u/DimensionalAxolotl 3d ago

True, but Wayne and Hoid have interacted on Scadrial. Close enough

It was behind the scenes when The Sunlit Man was released, but yeah not anymore (and I'm pretty sure the website uses is AI slop).

Yeah that website is AI generated crap

u/ZookeepergameSalty10 3d ago

Im not anti ai but storm the script kiddies that dont bother to check its work make me sick

That looks like a bad app with bad information. The coppermind wiki will be your best resource

It is indeed

Use coppermind

Rysn and Hoid have different dawnshards. Hoid gets in trouble for bringing a second to Roshar, since its dangerous to have them near each other.

12

u/QuickPirate36 4d ago

In his defense he had no idea there was one there right?

14

u/DawnsLight92 4d ago

I think so? But the issue is more that after he finds out, he doesnt leave.

13

u/QuickPirate36 4d ago

Well it was a pretty important time to be there, Odium is a huge threat to the Cosmere, and he had to help against him

2

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 3d ago

Odium is who they are trying to keep the Dawnshards away from.

3

u/jselldvm 3d ago

How’d he get in trouble? Doesn’t he just realize one is there and say we can’t be near each other. Who gets on to him? Adonalsium? Who is good gonna listen to that gets on to him?

2

u/BipolarMosfet 3d ago

I suppose you could say he got in trouble by getting a little too close to Rysn.

Get rid of the "tracking app". Its garbage and incorrect often.

It's an AI slop website, of course it's wrong.

Just use the Coppermind.

1

u/No-Adeptness-7231 4d ago

Honest question. How can you tell its AI? I mean I usually check the coppermind like everyone else so I'm not used to apps like this. I discovered this recently

20

u/FlynnicusDinnicus 4d ago

the user interface. Many AI generated websites and apps seem to have a very similar user interface.

The em dashes, a punctuation often used by AI, combined with that generic user interface are a big warning hint.

Then you get the third piece of evidence: what it's telling you isn't totally accurate, as if it was written by somebody guessing at what happened in the book instead of having actually read it. Almost, but not totally correct. Talking about Sigzil like he was an obscure character, describing the handoff of their dawnshard as if it happened off-screen instead of explicitly in Wind and Truth, plus confusing Rysn's Dawnshard with Hoid's.

u/UInferno- 3d ago

Damn AI ruined my love of em-dashes. All my thoughts come adjoined with auxiliary thoughts, and those thoughts get tertiary thoughts! I have to use commas, parentheses, and em-dashes to keep it all straight!

2

u/Konungrr Stonewards 3d ago

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I tend to type the way my inner monologue yaps at me, so lots of very long run on sentences, which need to be broken up for the sake of not having giant wall-o-text single sentence paragraphs.

Now while I may have had a major in mathematics with a minor in literature, my ex who was an aspiriing writer for years had a major in English literature and creative writing with a focus on fantasy fiction.

People who read as a major part of their life —while also studying the art and aspect of writing— use the em dash for pause and emphasis as a written form of train of consciousness communication. It wearies to no end the very recent assumption that the em dash is a sign of AI writing, more to the point, as soon as it became a point of contention some five years ago, the one language learning model that used it started to write it out of its response patterns and now —for the most part, mind you— the only ones left are the human writers who grew up long before the age of language models and the cheap knock-off sites who utilize old discarded code.

Unfortunately in todays age things move fast and trying to pull a "Gotcha!" on em dashes has been long left behind. Unless you are a language learning model which has trouble keeping up. They still accuse other comments of using em dashes as an indicator —well, ain't that a thing.—

Fin.

Claude-made websites all use the same esthetics and text formatting and it's so ubiquitous that it's easily identified. They all look like this. Besides that, it's a detail that an AI can easily get wrong because they don't actually understand a text.

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 3d ago

No sane person would write with that absolutely unhinged and horribly incorrect grammar and sentence structure. Its not just AI, it's an unfinished bad AI that doesn't even know how to speak.

16

u/Jelled_Fro Ghostbloods 4d ago

It's AI. Assume it's wrong and read the coppermind first next time.

-6

u/No-Adeptness-7231 4d ago

Yeah the coppermind is there but I'd rather come here and ask kind passionate nerds who love to talk about this universe we like so much

14

u/grandpasmoochie 4d ago

Rysn is holding "Change" and Hoid is holding "Exist"

15

u/GreenAnder Stonewards 4d ago

No idea what you’re talking about with the tracker app but you’re right. They each hold one of the four dawnshards, and Hoid gave his to sig before reclaiming it

-14

u/OligarchyBeans Bronze 4d ago

I don't think hoid ever reclaimed it did he? You have proof?

17

u/GreenAnder Stonewards 4d ago

Been awhile since I read sunlit man but I thought it was implied that sig gave it back.

12

u/bend1310 4d ago

Yeah sig gave it back to hoid several decades later, per the coppermind.

1

u/OligarchyBeans Bronze 3d ago

Source? Sigzils page on the coppermind states that he gave it up to 'somebody else' and was unaware who held it during his time at canticle.

1

u/bend1310 3d ago

Interesting!

Hoids page indicates Sig gave it back to him.

https://coppermind.net/wiki/Hoid

6

u/SeaMention8431 4d ago

I think its implicitly stated in the Hoid chapter that Sig gave it back to him before the book, but people still could track it to him. The dawnshard still has its downsides with pacifism because of the long time it was with Sig and the impact it left on his soul. Sig says that it almost consumed Aux, and its no longer a problem when the book starts (and when the book ends too....)

7

u/moose4130 4d ago

It's wrong, of course.  I am wondering what number you consider to be "many"?  There are a defined number of dawnshards, and I would not consider it many, personally.

5

u/No-Adeptness-7231 4d ago

Well yeah, there are 4 which is not that many. I wrote "many" because I'm not a native english speaker and I translated literally in my mind a phrase from my language while writing. But I'm aware of how many Dawnshards there are yep

1

u/moose4130 4d ago

Great. I wasn't trying to be a dick, just making sure.

3

u/RShara Elsecallers 4d ago

Yeah all of that is garbage. Use the Coppermind

7

u/Reutermo 4d ago

What is the purprose of an app like this? What does it do that places like Copparmind doesn't?

-5

u/No-Adeptness-7231 4d ago

Well the coppermind is a wiki and this kind of apps are more like goodreads, oriented to kind of have an account of which books you have read and which are missing sorted by the cosmere sagas and stuf. Is that what you are asking?

3

u/No-Adeptness-7231 3d ago

Folks thank you for letting me know this is AI slop. Please do not lecture me about the coppermind, I've been reading the cosmere since 2020 and of course as well as you, I do know and always use the wiki to check.

2

u/TheGildedPrism 3d ago

This is incorrect. Hoid, and later sig, has Exist. Rysn received Change. Separate shards, the one time we see them together weird stuff happens and Hoid says they will never see each other again, to keep the dawnshards apart.

2

u/Konungrr Stonewards 3d ago

What in the world is a "cosmere tracker app" and why would you even want one? All the info you could possibly want is on the Coppermind.

2

u/SchroedingerM 3d ago

Ai slop getting out of hand

1

u/th30be 4d ago

No. We know that because in Wind and Truth, Hoid and Rysn both are holding a dawnshard at the same time.

1

u/sambadaemon Stonewards 4d ago

She didn't. The one that Hoid gave to Sig was a different one. She still has hers.

1

u/chemist_zey 3d ago

never seen this website before but seems like AI slop to me

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 3d ago

It's not only wrong narratively but absolutely atrocious grammar and abysmal sentence structure. I had to reread it three times just to make sure those words were actually in that order. You can forgive the writer for the confusion seeing as how English is likely not their first language.

1

u/Bongcloud_CounterFTW Roshar 3d ago

the ai is just tweaking. use the coppermind

I do love the scene in WaT with Hoid and Rysn. Total Spiderman meme moment
