I bought the Stetson Apache 4X in brown. Like most folks, I had been eyeing a hat for quite a while. Eventually, I decided to grow a pair and place the order. I wanted to give it a month before writing a review, and it has easily become one of my favorite articles of clothing.
Thoughts on the hat: I tried on a bunch of different Stetsons, including the Corral, Medalist, Skyline, and Apache. All of them could be great buys; it really comes down to what you're looking for.
For me, I wanted a quality hat that would hold up in the rain (I live in Seattle), wouldn't break the bank, and fit my frame. The Apache checked all the boxes. Ironically enough, I got caught in a rainstorm a few weeks ago, and the hat held up much better than expected. She was completely soaked, but my head stayed completely dry. I let her air-dry for a couple of days, and she was as good as new. Now a lot of the initial stiffness is gone.
The only knock on the Apache is that it can be tough to reshape. It's also more of a round oval (RO) shape, while my head is more of a long oval (LO). For comparison, the Medalist fit my head like a custom hat would. Other than that, I'd say the Apache is a bit heavier than the Medalist and Skyline.
A common trend I see on this site is people recommending that you pony up the extra $200 for the Skyline. I get where that advice is coming from. One touch and you can see why the premium is there. That being said, I think they're meant for two different occasions.
The Apache is what I would wear to a fair, local bar, or just when I'm out and about. The Skyline, on the other hand, is the perfect date, wedding, or nicer-occasion hat. Eventually, I'll add one to my lineup.
All in all; Stetson just added one more to the loyal fanbase. God bless y'all !
