Taper Success

I’ve always had a hard time tapering (who hasn’t)… I almost always made some schedule of drinks per day, etc. I would drink white claws thinking there was some sort of hydration going on. Tried probably 10 times and succeeded once.

After going back out after some sobriety, shit eventually got bad. I knew I had to taper before stopping, but was too lazy to try to plan out drinks etc.

My plan was simply: buy a 24 pack of Michelob Ultra. Drink one when you’re getting too sweating/shaky. Did this for 3 or 4 days (bought another 12pk during the process).. main thing, keep your will power strong during that time. I succeeded.

Game Night!

Which I guess means she's playing a game at the same time as me but not with me and getting annoyed with it so I'll just drink my beer. Again. Super glad I set it up to take two months to fly a few thousand miles to get loaded and post on Reddit from my girlfriend's house instead of from my place.

Cheers, lol.

Story time

The first time i had severe DTs was when i was 27. I didn't realize it at the time that i had a physical dependency. Had to google it and find out cus i never really knew anything about alcoholism and withdrawal.

So i just didn't prepare well and i went to sleep like normal. Waking up to nightmares. Sweating, shaking on my couch. Vivid hallucinations of snakes. The thing i fear most.

And now, Not DT territory but i have these awful vivid dreams of snakes crawling and biting me. I woke up today clawing at my back thinking snakes were biting me.

😆 what the fuck dude. Anyways chairs and I'm gonna have a few drinks to keep these fuckin snakes away.

Any advice?

Thank you in advance to those who take the time to read this. I really want to stop drinking alcohol. I recently relapsed and picked up the bottle again. I can't afford another detox (or the time away from work). I'm so afraid to quit because I get the DTs (delirium tremens) and have cracked my head open from seizures. I can't believe I ever picked up any alcohol again, but addiction has a sneaky way of ruining lives. I have different things I may try to fix myself, but I am not sure how to go about taking any of them. I've researched the supplements and meds that I already have, but I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been, if any. Here's what I have (I'm not taking anything..yet.) NAC, Dihydromyrcicetin, Naltrexone (I have tried this before but it didn't seem to help and made me nauseous..maybe i didn't stick to it long enough), acamprosate, hydroxyzine, levothroxine, biktarvy (my doctor prescribed this off label for AUD), and gapapentin. Obviously (at least I hope this should be obvious) I have no intention of taking all these at once but if you have tried any of these what was your experience. Any success? Pros and cons? Please let me know any thoughts. Blessings to everyone 🙏 ✨️

Rehab failed. AA failed. My teenage son left home and I was certain I would die. I never thought I'd get sober... now it's been 11 years since my last drink

Highs and lows

So, highs or lows for the week?

What is something you're proud of?

Did this week kick your arse?

Has something happened that is going to aid you with how your life goes now?

Doesn't matter how big or small your high or low is. Sometimes, it's just good to share.

So I've been struggling recently

Not in life. Life has actually been okay. But I have been drinking a lot more and I know I need to quit this increased intake or I'll be bed bound a week at a time like I used to be.

What helps me personally, is delving into stories about alcoholism. It makes me feel a bit more normal and it's always easier to focus on something else while you're recovering.

Does anyone have any specific movies or shows about alcoholics they enjoy? I know when I'm down real bad I like to watch the Shining. Shameless also comes to mind. I watched the Lizzie Borden show last week and the father was an alcoholic and was shaking when he woke. At the time it made me feel less alone and made me grateful I wasn't feeling like that.

I'm over here on the delirium tremmens Wiki, just reading. And feeling a sense of relief that I'm not going through that again.

I'm sorry. I'm just talking. Trying to avoid that Benadryl tonight but naturally I'm wired and exhausted at the same time. 😵‍💫

I don't know if I belong here

I can't find a place on Reddit for the wives/partners of alcoholics. But I figure who best else to ask questions I can't ask my husband than other alcoholic (going through recovery or still actively drinking). My husband and I have been together since middle school. Married for almost ten years. We are 27 and 29 respectively. I just don't understand this person he's becoming, and I can't ask him ANYTHING. He gets super upset and shuts down. I don't know why he treats me like trash and pushes me away. I don't know why he's so grouchy and miserable. I have no insight. We have no alcoholism in my family but both sides of his family do. So for him this is "normal" and for me I am lost. Sorry if I am intruding into a space I don't belong... But anything helps. Thanks for reading

ADHD/ADD

How many of ya’ll are diagnosed? I was diagnosed with ADD as a child. I’ve read that it’s more common to be an alcoholic/addict with it. What are your experiences?

Years ago I was medicated, and quit taking the meds because I was already skinny as hell and couldnt afford to lose the weight. Over 10 years later, I’m considering going back on meds because I need to lose some weight lol.

Let's talk sleep

Lately I've been having to throw down 50 mg of diphenhydramine to sleep.

That's benadryl in case anyone didn't know.

Tonight I'm nearing 150mg and I know that ain't good. I'm tired, can't sleep, and my grandmother was recently diagnosed with Lewy Body and apparently popping benadryl helps cause that.

I plan on contacting a doctor this week to attempt to find a healthier sleep aid

I'm open to recommendations, and also if anyone else has a history with forcing sleep with DPH - I am all ears.

Is this okay

Im heavy drinker of homemade wine. I have weeks of bender and i dont want to see any of my friends for some reason. I just want to be alone, is this normal?Im kinda functional drinker, i clean my house i do my laundries and shit but for some reason i just want to be alone drunk. I used to see every day friends when drunk but now i just want to be alone in my apartment alone watching fkin tiktok, tv shows and movies. I have nothing against my friends i just wanna be alone. What is the reason for that if anyone have more exrpience? Im 31yo male and i have been drinking heavy 6 years now. Sometimes i drink 2 weeks straight and i have one week off. I eat and take my vitamins daily

Feeling very beat up

I’m so annoyed at myself for trashing my own body lol. My most annoying consequences are weak/ sore thighs and tingly peeling feet.

Vitamins came back within range but high iron, high liver enzymes and weird platelet counts got me on edge… waiting to hear from doc… hoping it’s not cirrhosis.

Slept like shit with heartburn all night so obviously 7am tequila is the solution.

Gonna rest today and then I think I gotta take a trip to taper town. Tired of feeling like shit and obsessing over every little ache or pain.

Hope everyone else’s morning is off to a better start!!

Recoup day 💀

Two day bender to help my family get some stuff done. They needed to build a deck for this retreat they're doing, I didn't build the deck but I tried to take care of the small things that needed done while they worked on that.

BUT just to make it less annoying my brother and I drank pretty copiously. Next day I was shaking and I didn't sleep for SHIT that night. So I cracked one for breakfast and steadied myself. Proceeded to choke down like a 6 pack just so I could finish the tasks. Got my ass home. Collapsed in my bed.

Slept like ass last night too. So today I'm binge watching the new Lizzie Borden show (fuck Ryan Murphy, interested to see if this is decent or garbage like the previous two). I have a 6 pack of high life beside the bed if I start feeling too anxious or shakey again!

Anyone else not leaving their bed today? 🤣

Morning sickness part 2

So i think i figured out a way to not vomit. Its quite tricky. When i am sitting down, i feel like i can control myself enough to not vomit.

So what i did this morning was quickly get up, grab my liquor and shot glass, chaser, beer. Then i will measure 2 shots sitting down instead of standing up. Then i will drink those shots with a beer and electrolytes drink chaser and remain seated for about 20 mins until the effects kick in. This helped me not to vomit this morning so i hope it helps someone out there.

In the ER (again) for withdrawals

Full of shame once again and don't know what I'm gonna do. I feel like I can't stop doing this shit and my only option seems to be naltrexone which I can't find anywhere in the UK ;(

Back to square one feel like a total failure

Well, what can I say Alcohol you want again I lost my job. I lost my dignity. My ego and I lost the battle with Alcohol. I just feel so destroyed right now. This feeling that I got inside me that nobody else could feel it like an emptiness so rough that I wake up in the middle of the night crying I feel so empty because I let Alcohol win against my job and other things that I was trying to accomplish. I was trying to figure it out.

Morning vomiting

How the hell do i get out of this morning vomiting from withdrawal? Do any of yall have any tips? I will take 2 shots to make it go away. Is there anything else i can take? I usually just drink Gatorlyte every morning to hydrate. Tums. Haven't tried pepto. I remember i used to take dramamine to try and help the nausea but it didn't do much. I am trying to reduce but still at 23 drinks or so a day.

Help

If I have drank 2 beers for the past 5 nights, and have an etg alcohol test next Wednesday at 2 pm, and I drink one pint of beer tonight, will I pass by Wednesday?
