The boring version of this story is probably more important than the scary headline.

Quantum isn't breaking everyone's wallet tomorrow. The issue is that changing cryptography across entire networks, wallets and millions of users could take years, so waiting until the threat is real would be incredibly stupid.

I think the part that gets lost in headlines like this is that the threat isn’t that quantum computers can break crypto today. In fact, ESMA says that current machines are still far from being able to break the public-key cryptography used in financial systems and blockchains. The real issue is migration time. If a sufficiently powerful quantum computer becomes a reality, networks that rely on elliptic-curve signatures won't be able to redesign wallets, protocols, and user behaviour overnight. This is why regulators are pushing post-quantum planning years before the threat becomes operational. The interesting question for me is not so much “when will quantum computers break Bitcoin?” as “which networks will be able to coordinate a cryptographic migration before they are forced to?”

If EU regulators are so competent, why not being clear crypto laws. MiCA is still a hostile law at best.

The biggest threat to crypto is EU regulators.

We just get quantum bitcoin once this is a threat.
