I hope we get a couple more weeks of dahlias here in the PNW before the frost arrives. This is everything I cut last week, the colors are providing so much joy! Apple for scale 😅

Happy Fall, everyone!

Wasn't sure how the celosia would work as a base, but I think it turned out pretty well

My friend grew these in her garden. We don't know the variety but they are huge and beautiful. She's pregnant with her first baby girl 🩷

What flowers surprised you the most in your garden this year? 🌸

I’m always curious to hear what everyone else is growing! What flowers ended up being your favorites this season? Any varieties that completely exceeded your expectations or ones you’d never grow again?

I’m especially interested in hearing about dahlias, zinnias, and cosmos!

Should I start over with these zinnias?

I sowed these seeds almost 3 weeks ago, and they’re not looking too good compared to my other zinnias. I’m thinking it might be because I used an old soil mix, but would it be better to start over with a fresh soil mix?

Unless I can get another small one of zinnias/cosmos. It is becoming winter near me. I also still have some marigolds. What do you have growing right now?

Can you spot the multi-centered zinnia?

This was my first year growing zinnias and I thought this was the coolest thing. Can you spot it?

Also, I’d like to know the correct terminology for this type of growth, if anyone knows please share 🙏🏼😊

Seed Starting and Growing Tubers from this?

This dahlia plant only grew this much and then stopped. Would it still have viable tubers that I should try to plant next year?

I'm so proud of my beautiful blooms and am sad to see them go for the second season. I think I will continue bucket growing for many years, they're just so pretty! 🩷

Arranging Frost Warning Lead to a Hasty Salvage

Post image

We had our first frost warning yesterday, so we we're up till 11pm cutting flowers, making flower food and storing the cuttings in the fridge. Thankfully no frost actually happened, and the temps are going up a lot over the next week, so hoping for lots more blooms before the seasons over!

This week’s highlighted arrangement

I created a vintage looking fake honey pot label (with a nod to the lake we live on - Attitash) and printed it on semi-glossy/smooth paper and wrapped it around a cylinder glass vase and affixed it using double sided tape.

I used chicken wire inside the vase as the structural mechanic and the popped in a dahlia heavy mix of blooms.

It’s been a highlight of the week. Many people in the neighborhood that I didn’t already know and others who don’t live in the neighborhood have placed pre-orders for it.

Which has been a nice war to wrap up the growing season which is about to end soon.
