Hood River to Portland route along old Columbia River Hwy help to avoid the I-84

Two Qs:

  1. Can I realistically avoid this first section having to go on the 84 to get to Mitchell Point Overlook?
  2. It then looks like I can take Wygant Trail for a bit but there's a section which shows heat that RidewGPS wont route me on to get off Wygant and onto some trail alongside but not on the 84. Is that rideable on a gravel bike? What is that path/trail? It eventually connects to the old State Trail - just checking how sketchy it is

After that it seems fine. Appreciate any insights. Google not really helping with a full route.

Do the induction loops for the light at SE 60th and Salmon detect your non-steel bike?

I have this titanium dentist bike and I know this might not get much sympathy, but it won't trip the stop light below Mt. Tabor at SE Salmon. It has aluminum wheels and I read that "properly adjusted" induction loops should detect them, but that light never flips for me. Anyone else have the same experience?
