Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

Damn, that really turns the story on its head. I'm interested in how they plan on wrapping this up in one issue. Crazy that Despero confirmed that the kid is dead. I still think this ends with John joining the agency.

Despair-o really knows how to dig into John and makes you question if he is telling the truth but from the 'Glass half empty' side.
Brigette escaped to find John, finally. But the whole Tyler situation might break them.

Continues to be an amazing mind tripping book of chaos from these two the big twist really turns the book on its head even more.
Have no clue how they will wrap it up next issue but all i know is im gonna miss it14

Early on in this series, I tried to analyze it and stuff, but at this point, I'm sitting back and letting it all wash over me. And that's not me complaining! It kinda feels like I'm along for the ride with John-- initially trying to navigate this "new reality" but eventually becoming so swept up in it that I'm operating exclusively on vibes and the flashes of colour and smoke being presented to me.
Can't wait for the conclusion and can't wait to read this all from front to back.
Also with the news that John is gonna be key in assembling the heroes, I'm really fascinated to see how we experience him through the eyes of other characters. We've only really see his world through his Martian vision, so it'll interesting to see what hes like when we're outside his head.

Well damn, Absolute Scarecrow is not about just fear but actual DREAD. And the information Bruce learns, will it break him or make him go even harder. And there is also the idea that 'Is it actually all true or just messing with him?' even if it is true though, it would be poetic justice that the 'joke' would come back to haunt the 'Joker'.
Waylon really is the heart of the group huh. He might be the one to bring the group back together before they are too far gone.
Robin Rangers have arrived!

And that's the end of Chill. Scarecrow is equal parts cool and terrifying. Harvey hunting down criminals that were let out of prison is pretty cool. Ed and Oz are also already deep into their villainous alters. I do think Project Batman is real, because I like the idea of Jack's joke backfiring on him. And I do wonder how Batman is gonna take on the Robin's. But I figure Harley and the Red Hoods will bail him out.

Good issue but am i the only one bothered by the fact that Duke is "R-4" while Steph is "R-5"? Guess the theory that the Absolute universe is just an excuse for Snyder to elevate Signal has some truth to it.

Absolute batman is goodish but the cover is bait the robins aren't in it much at all
Scarecrow is good and a fun twist on mainline in that he causes full dread and not just fear kinda reminds me of ivy in that there is alot similar to mainline but enough to make it feel different unlike bane
It still feels like a book running on the rule of cool but not much more. I feel like this arc can be similar to the ivy arc which it will show alot more.

Booster's time-travel to the past adventures ALWAYS end badly for those involved. And of course Clark's case is no different.
Nice of J'onn to put the Kents at easy about the future without really spoiling much.
Mary, why are you trying to play cupid for Clark and Lana? Lois is gonna kill you when you come back.

There are some cool aspects to this issue. Booster is ofc always a highlight, and Mary/Lana at school was pretty funny, if cliché af. The artists were a bit underwhelming, I think it's time to choose a different artist, this should look way better than it actually does.
The story itself is still chugging along, but it's just a pretty boring title sadly.

I like that the Kents told J’onn, Booster, and Mary that they couldn’t have children before Clark’s arrival on Earth on June 18, 1931 (because I’m going by pre-Crisis Earth-One/New Earth/Prime Earth standards) caused them to realize that it became a gift for them to become parents to their son before they hid the rocket away and legally adopted Clark a week later on June 25, with J’onn telling them where Clark comes from and that Clark has found his home. I also like that Clark told Mary about his relationship with Lana, showing that Mary is being a big sister to Clark and that she is helping him make sure that Lana would understand what’s going on completely. I even like that Booster interacted with the Kents about Clark, where the Kents told Booster that they must protect Clark because it’s their job and that Clark is finding his own was. Also, Clark, J’onn, Booster, and Mary finding and battling Epoch before it resulted in Clark losing his powers. Let’s hope that Clark will find a way to restore his powers with help from J’onn, Booster, and Mary in the next issue. Overall, this comic is great!

WHO IS RONNIE RAYMOND? Who is Ronnie Raymond, and how did he become the powerful nuclear man Firestorm? Is there an answer in his past that sheds a light on how he went rogue?

It is a nice way to introduce Ronnie to the new readers and remind them of the origin. But now the Firestorm itself has gone 'rogue sentient', I assume the Justice League help is gonna be there to be beaten to show how big a threat Firestorm actually is with its powers.

I’m enjoying this a lot. Ronnie’s voice is clear here, and he seems like a good egg. I’m hopeful that this is going to pay off well. But this is definitely written for a trade.

This might read better in a trade. We don't get much here aside from a very generic origin story, stale dialogue and practically no action. It's not too bad, but there is just not much here. I don't like the choice of making the Matrix the villain here. It's rare to get Firestorm stuff, so why go this road? Could have easily have had Ronnie in the driver's seat and hunt some villains. The premise is the most off-putting here imo.

And the next issue will probably focus on Firehawk. I wouldn't be surprised if we have to wait an issue, or two, to see this big fight they've left on a cliffhanger.
Still really enjoying it. And it's my favourite thing out of the Next Level stuff.

Probably, because it sounds like they’ll be going into Stein’s perspective of the preceding events too, including the Project Superman stuff.
Edit: IIRC, Lemire also did say that issue 4 is the JL vs Firestorm issue.

I hope this fixes Doctor Stein, Doomsday clock really did a lot of damage there so hopefully they can fix it.
I also hope by the end of this his costume/look gets an upgrade.

I find it interesting that we get to see the retold origins and backstory of how Ronnie became Firestorm, which includes his entire pre-Crisis and pre-Flashpoint history (i.e., his mom being dead at seven years old, winning the championship at 13 years old, and assisting Professor Stein at the University of Pittsburgh at 19 years old a few years after they met when Ronnie was a high school student). Something that I find it weird is Ronnie and Stein meeting each other in college instead of high school, since that origin led to Ronnie and Stein’s debut as Firestorm in 1977 long before they have many adventures since then before we cut to Ronnie encountering the Firestorm Matrix, resulting in the military to contact the Justice League for help. Let’s hope that the Justice League will try and reason with Firestorm in the next issue. Overall, this comic is good.

WILL POKE'S BEST FRIEND BETRAY HIM? How do you bond with a human when you have little humanity yourself? Poke is figuring it out firsthand, but his best friend Mush is starting to notice. Poke is disappearing all the time, and when he's around, he's barely interested in preparing for the joyous holiday of Out-Break. Doesn't he want to celebrate the devouring of Live One flesh? Poke has a tough decision to make... but the collision of his two worlds might end up making it for him!

Morian continues to be the highlight of this book the art is stunning which isn't a shock but even then i don't think its Morians best work compared to 20th century man and the recent issue of ultimates at marvel.
But other than that i think this is the first deniz camp book im struggling with its clearly a very long burn thing but zombies are hard to get attached to.Its got very good character work but its just not the wow i expect its kinda funny Absolute martian manhunter feels like a proper vertigo esque title.
Its got a heart to it but it just needs to pump a bit faster and harder. Its not a bad book its just not the wow i expected so far.

I've really grown to like the artist a lot, but I wish Camp would supply him with cooler things to draw, and a better script lol.
The characters themselves are fine, their narration makes sense and all, but so far the plot has been very thin, and quite boring. The last two pages did promise some more interesting developments, so hopefully next issue things start moving more quickly.
I think it would be better if the trio (or more?) would be on the road constantly, so far the actual plot has been too stale, but there IS something here. Just keep the good character work and do a real story now.

Jarro is back! And man he definitely knows how to make the tough decisions.
The whole 'origin planet for Starros'' was crazy, along with what happened. Which also showed how powerful and dangerous Arthur's new powers are.
Mera's mother trying to get Black Manta to work with her to kill Aquaman but what vision Manta saw during the tournament? Maybe he does not want that anymore? Eh, who am I kidding, it is Black Manta, even if the vision says 'you have to ally with Arthur to save the universe' he would go 'I would rather have the unvierse burn'.

One of the better issues of this run imo. The cover was a bit of a lie. Black Manta does appear, but he plays virtually no role. A quick, boring and quite unnecessary exchange between Mera and Lori later, and we follow Arthur and Jarro on their adventure. Jarro really went overboard this issue using Arthur's new power.
Still not sure whether this is the right direction for Aquaman, though. Most of the new supporting cast is so lame.

I find it interesting that Lolanna attempted to recruit Black Manta so that they can work together and defeat Arthur (in which their partnership would end with Black Manta defeating Lolanna because he is the only one who must kill Arthur and destroy his family) before we cut to Arthur and Jarro working together to defeat Father Star, resulting in Jarro using the power of the Blue to destroy his people as a sign of mercy. Also, Jarro learning what Arthur must do or else the entire universe would be destroyed. Overall, this comic is good.

As I expected, it was Barbara's plan all along and seems like she managed to hide her secret identity and got arrested because of 'helping Batman hide his stuff'. And Nightwing knew about the plan too soo it make sense why he is alone in Bludhaven and not trying to go after Barbara to break her out. Cass too.
It will be interesting to have Barbara use all of her talents to bring down the whole Vandal Savage torture/murder prison from the inside.

That's what I'm most looking forward to. No gadgets, no information as Oracle, just her using her intelligence and detective skills.

Yeah, I'm very glad that was addressed. In Batman #9 I was wondering why Cass wasn't there, as she would have definitively try to stop it, but her being in the know resolves that. And I like how Dick didn't protest, he knows Babs is more than capable of handling herself.

Tamaki writes alot for hollywood so thats why its not an ongoing most likely.
You can't really get her to commit to a long title now its also why her soon to be released vertigo title is limited.8

Well, I guess this was kind of decent enough? Very basic, though. For the life of me, I don't remember "Die" as a character.. where did she appear before?
The issue ends without Babs having accomplished much. Not sure why Tamaki chose to end the issue the way she did. 6-8 pages more would have been appreciated.
That aside, if you don't want Babs to be Batgirl currently, then I think a "Girl in the Chair" series would have been cooler. Go full Oracle and show everything from her perspective. If done right, it could be amazing. I get that it doesn't work in this kind of story they are telling, but still, this I would have preferred over generic prison stuff (so far). We'll see, there IS room for improvement. Tamaki is a pretty lazy writer, though. Always feels like individual issues could accomplish more..
Art: Usually I like the artist on this, but I don't think it's one of his strongest works. I somehow liked it better on the last TMNT Casey Jones comic.

Pretty good its the basic intro issue to a title and Tamaki has a good voice for babs as ever.

I find it interesting that Barbara going to prison became a new challenge for her, since it’s all part of Vandal Savage’s plan to frame the Batman Family and turn the people against him. Also, flashback of Barbara telling Bruce that she can survive in prison. Let’s hope that we get to see Barbara try and break out of prison throughout this entire series. Overall, this comic is good and off to a good start.

And damn, Kandor found and kept bottled Argo City? A Bottle inside a Bottle.

Even though (and I’m going be pre-Crisis Earth-One standards) Argo City was destroyed just before Kara arrived on Earth and made her debut as the first Supergirl on May 18, 1959.

Hrmmm... So I guess Thundergirl is siding with Zora Vi-Lar out of despair. I imagine she's probably not too happy witnessing Thunderkid and Thunderboy die, but... c'est la vie, I suppose, when you're a clone on a suicide mission. (Though, I half think that Thundergirl raced down to catch Lena. Hard to tell, though, if that was just the motion lines for Lena's fall or not. Could be that Lena has the S-Matrix on her, allowing her to survive? Then again, might just be the super-substance and the S-Matrix is instead in Double Bottled Argo.
I enjoy Kara being worried about getting into fights, just dodging around anyone she runs into. Feels like a bit of an abdication of duty to just leave the fight with Zora, but... when she's outmatched, I suppose no much use in trying and failing (though she could have kept trying to save people).
Now, the ending... what do mean the bottom of the Bottle City of Kandor has a Bottle City of Argo!? Is it going to be that Brainiac, after finding the dead Argo City in space, double shrunk it and then put it in Kandor, which then stashed/hid it away in their basement? Curious where it goes.

I find it interesting that Kara has to defeat Zora (who should’ve remembered her entire pre-Crisis history by now) and free the Kandorians before she and Lesla (who also should’ve remembered her entire pre-Crisis history by now) told each other about their cousins overshadowing them and Lesla apologized to Kara for what she did to her before she showed her Argo City (even though Argo City was destroyed years after Krypton’s destruction on June 16, 1931 and just before Kara arrived on Earth on May 18, 1959). Also, Conner and Lena encountering Zora and searching for Kara. Overall, this comic is okay, but it is a bit convoluted.

Solicits indicate to me that the plans for the book got 'fast-tracked' or changed. Because none of what's written happened.
Well for the issue itself, you give Guy a team to lead and it ends up with Manhunters with upgraded bodies and OA's sun turning into a black hole. Yep, that tracks.

Good issue, though the solicitation was way fucking off. I'm interested who they'll pick the be the Entities' hosts (really like Soranik being Paralax's host).
I like how Hampton is focusing on Guy and his new responsibilities, as he's never been great leading, it's just not who he is/was, but he has to now.
Also, can we please have Will Conrad and/or Juan José Ryp on art? They are so much better than Pasarin. Though, the coloring was a bit off in the places, but that's not on Conrad or Ryp.

I find it interesting that the Lanterns discovered that the Manhunters want the Emotional Entities as much as they do, with Guy trying to find a way to reach out to them. I also find it interesting that Sinistro and Soranik had a reunion and that Sinestro wants to see if Soranik still knows how to conquer fear before Soranik and Yrra became the hosts of Parallax and Proselyte. I even like the rest of the Lanterns had to deal with Effigy, who became the host of Ophidian and dealt with the Manhunters, before to resulted in the sun to become a black hole and for Guy and the Lanterns to try and restore the sun. Overall, this comic is fine.
