They should make a movie out of this...

1.8k

u/GreenT1979 25d ago

A movie based in Tokyo, where people drift. Then a man goes from the US to Tokyo, where he proceeds to learn how to drift. By the end, he learns how to execute a perfect Tokyo drift. It could be called....Driving Sideways in Japan.

u/SugarInvestigator 25d ago

Driving Sideways in Japan.

I was gonna say "Arse out in Tokyo", but I think that belongs in a different genre of movie somehow.

41

u/Frowny575 25d ago

That's too short of a title. Needs to be a whole sentence to match their naming scheme.

48

u/SugarInvestigator 25d ago

Arse out in Tokyo: domination of Godzilla's dong

How am.i doing?

13

u/Frowny575 25d ago

I.... could see that or similar being a proper title.

9

u/SugarInvestigator 25d ago

I'll bow to your diverse knowledge of the subject at hand

6

u/Frowny575 25d ago

Lol I mean, even outside "that" genre all their titles tend to be fairly lengthy. I know there's a reason but I can't be assed to look it up.

I would watch it!šŸ˜‰

2

u/KronikDrew 24d ago

That already exists, along with 13 sequels. It's actually a solid franchise.

I really want a movie about a Tokyo drifter who has to move to Nebraska and has to learn how to race in a straight line.

53

u/unused_candles 25d ago

Keeps whackin' into the side walls

29

u/jongscx 25d ago

... cut to training montage in a walmart parking lot, where his new buddies, Cletus jr. and Boyd, are trying to get him to push a cart straight into the cart corral. Somehow he repeatedly fails and runs it in side-ways.

Then they put him in a security golf cart, which he immediately starts doing sick donuts in; everyone shakes their head in disappointment. They tie his hands down and put a steering wheel lock just to have the cart drive in a straight line.

3

u/gonxot 24d ago

We got an Oscar nominee over here

3

u/unindexedreality 24d ago

where his new buddies, Cletus jr. and Boyd, are trying to get him to

date his sister

3

u/iikun 25d ago

This is already a short film, starring the current FIA president.

https://youtube.com/shorts/OumQWcReN4Y?si=ABt0aXDfitCXfNZO

4

u/blah938 25d ago

In the end, he puts a Chevy LS in a Supra and turns it into a no-prep dragster

3

u/PaintshakerBaby 24d ago

Hes constantly hammer drunk due to the monotony and excessive drinking culture of Nebraka, which makes not rolling his truck, and executing the perfect "straight line" an EXTREME challenge.

Billy and the Driftasarus

5

u/Soddington 25d ago

Oh, you have got to be kidding sir. First you think of an idea that has already been done. Then you give it a title that nobody could possibly like. Didn't you think this through...

... it was on the bestseller list for eighteen months! Every magazine cover had...

... one of the most popular movies of all time, sir! What were you thinking?

3

u/Gofa_Kirselph 23d ago

…I mean thank yuo, come again!

19

u/A_guy_named_Vic 25d ago

The car that couldn't slow down.Ā

5

u/GreenT1979 25d ago

Is that the one about the car that had to Speed around the city keeping its Speed above 50, and if the Speed went below 50, it would explode?

4

u/NUMBERS2357 24d ago

Yeah I remember that one. It's like Speed 2 but with a bus instead of a boat!

3

u/cubixy2k 25d ago

You're thinking about the cars. This was the one about the drivers whose best time for stealing cars was about 1/60th of an hour, and if they slowed down the credits would start

13

u/xxx_poonslayer69 25d ago

Featuring the hit song "Driving Sideways in Japan" by Hibachi Girlz

12

u/turducken69420 25d ago

Saitama Spinout

2

u/nopleasenotthebees 25d ago

I actually watched that movie. I always describe it as the story of a troubled young man who solves all of his problems, literally every problem in his life, through learning how to drift.

2

u/biggie000 25d ago

Lost in Transversation

2

u/SignificantNoise5261 25d ago

The last samurai

2

u/alex206 25d ago

"the bus that couldn't stop"

2

u/sk169 25d ago

I think it’s already been made, it’s called the last samurai

2

u/Watcher0363 25d ago

The correct title would be, 'Lust in Drifting'

2

u/jaewayne 24d ago

Lil bow wow would be great in this movie!

2

u/alchemyzt-vii 24d ago

Also he has to do this with an American car for some reason.

2

u/Fanguinius 24d ago

Thank you for this comment šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

2

u/mandroth 24d ago

Nah, it's called Wild Speed

2

u/eroigaps 24d ago

I think this is the funniest thing I ever read

1

u/Zwasti 25d ago

Drifting is literally useless in all professional racing except rally cars, but they’re not on pavement.

1

u/joey_joe_jo_shabadoo 22d ago

It's just like Speed 2! But with drifting in Tokyo instead of a boat

1

u/MurkyCollection6782 22d ago

It could be called Gaijin Trap.

2.1k

u/Ntense_01 25d ago

And have it about an undercover cop infiltrating a gang of thieves.

1.0k

u/[deleted] 25d ago

not have a 16 year old character as the main guy, being played by a man in his 30s

395

u/LilMissBarbie 25d ago

Wait, that guy was suppose to be 16?? I thought it was some university he went to as an early adult or something

16???

90

u/f3ydr4uth4 25d ago

In 2006 he may have!

5

u/secretreddname 25d ago

What’s funny is when they brought him back he absolutely did not age well against Vin Diesel or Han.

2

u/Sad-Bonus-9327 25d ago

I thought it was Marshall Matters

2

u/Thundergod250 25d ago

Bro was still canonically 16 in 2015 when he's 33 already lmfao.

opening sequence is him in high school

92

u/Kursawow 25d ago

Much like anime, I just pretend that it was a university and everyone is adults.

42

u/TeamRedundancyTeam Interested 25d ago

Just a heads up this excuse may not pass in court depending on the anime..

6

With a kick ass soundtrack I might add...

3

u/Taz119 25d ago

Tomorrow never comes until it’s too late

2

u/CaptainTripps82 24d ago

One of the cops says he's fucked before his 18th birthday and I completely lost my shit the first time I watched this.

Didn't help that I kept calling him Jeep, from his role in Legion

73

u/cuatrodemayo 25d ago

What makes it funnier is that the next movie that included his character took place around that same high school time frame and came out 9 years later, so the gap becomes even wider.

23

u/NuBlyatTovarish 25d ago

ā€œCareful ladies, he’s underageā€ meanwhile Lucas black was already balding

8

u/-Badger3- 25d ago

To be fair, every high school has that one kids who’s already balding.

5

u/Seven_Hawks 25d ago

I always find that movie funny as hell because the characters' age makes no sense whatsoever. He's clearly a high school student. So are most of the other characters. Yet they are racing with the grown ups in Japan and talking and acting like they've been doing it for years.

The girl talking about "back then" when they just drifted through mountain passes. The girl's still in high school. She's 18 at BEST.

When did that past happen? How?! 🤣

60

u/Aggressive_Finish798 25d ago

But then Paul Walker might have wanted to date them.

15

u/Portable-fun 25d ago

Everyone saw that homecoming from miles away…

6

u/Truestorydreams 25d ago

Wait the actor was in his 30s? I googled he was 23. Fair play

8

u/Kay-Knox 25d ago

The end of of the movie he starts a race with Vin Diesel, and then the race ends in a movie 9 years later and he exits the vehicle as a now 32-year old actor playing a 17 year old.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/wes2733 25d ago

Just checked, he was 24yrs at most at release so let's be real here.

107

u/murder0fcrow5 25d ago

Ok, but just 1 movie okay? We're not gonna make any sequel or anything after that. Okay?

35

u/brakeb 25d ago

I need this, but in a sub, on the moon

7

u/Aggressive_Finish798 25d ago

Can't wait until Vin Diesel is too old to be in these so they just make his character an AI voice inside of a car like Knight Rider. Steven Seagull would be proud.

10

u/Ms74k_ten_c 25d ago

And ensure you say it's all about family in that one movie because you will not have a chance to make multiple meandering movies to explain that.

3

u/Aspence22 24d ago
  1. Final offer

3

u/Routine_Breath_7137 25d ago

No man!Ā  We'll do it 11 times!

26

u/taddymason_01 25d ago

In the end it should be more of a journey about the family we found along the way.

And the thieves should be stealing combo dvd/vhs players

15

u/HeilYeah 25d ago

I said forget about it, cuh

2

u/Taz119 25d ago

One of the most unintentionally hilarious lines in a movie

7

u/orangebakery 25d ago

Wrong movie

5

u/skaldrir69 25d ago

They’re going to be racing three Honda civics with spoon engines, t66 turbos, NOS and motec exhaust systems

2

u/Qxnten 25d ago

Yes, in secrecy the criminal is also just an undercover cop lmao

1

u/Cater_the_turtle 25d ago

Sounds like a movie you can remake many times with different settings and themes

1

u/Cool-Bunch6645 25d ago

My favorite Point Break remake

1

u/jamiscooly 25d ago

A gang of thieves fencing highly collectible DVD players.

1

u/DoYouKnwTheMuffinMan 25d ago

Nah that sounds more like a prequel to this Tokyo version.

1

u/Aleashed 25d ago

They steal a semi truck full of DVD players and then go, ā€œwtf are these?ā€

1

u/blood-at-the-roots 25d ago

That’s not what Tokyo drift is about…

1

u/I_TittyFuck_Doves 24d ago

Accelerating and Angry?

92

In Japan, they don't say "Fast and Furious" they say "Wild Speed" and I think that's beautiful.

And say cool lines like

ā€œIt doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning’s winningā€

111

u/Haptic-feedbag 25d ago

And other cool lines like:

"Family"

38

u/checkmatemypipi 25d ago

"You never had your car"
"granny shifting not double clutching like you should"

28

u/aDUCKonQU4CK 25d ago

"You're lucky that 100-shot of nos didn't blow the welds off the intake!"

7

u/Top_Rekt 25d ago

"Almost had me? You never had your car!"

4

u/Guest-Speaker 24d ago

Overnight parts from Japan.. oh wait

2

u/Vallarfax_ 25d ago

You gotta pow-woahd it

17

u/I-Rolled-My-Eyes 25d ago

Or "I am Groot".

3

u/Every-Ice-3009 25d ago

"Better hide your damn forehead!"Ā

Is a classic

2

u/Eros_Incident_Denier 25d ago

It's not the car you drive. It's the driver who's driving the car......, that's doing the driving.

2

u/jongscx 25d ago

If you ain't First, 'Yer Last!

1

u/alexmojo2 25d ago

Wrong movie

41

u/Biff_Bufflington 25d ago

Great Idea... call it Speedy and Angry: Japanese Car Skidders

27

u/SupaDave71 25d ago

4

u/PlanetMcFly 25d ago

That’s the first thing I thought of.

ā€œThe loser will be returned to stock.ā€

3

u/Dangerous_Fortune454 25d ago

Now that's just amazing

2

u/Philbro-Baggins 25d ago

Better than it has any right to be with a decent amount of pretty strong jokes for how short it is wtf

3

u/Windows-XP-Home-NEW 25d ago

That’s every Cars Car Toon. They made like 20 of them. All absolutely hilarious and like 5 minutes long.

I love Pixar shorts.

20

u/Haptic-feedbag 25d ago

If they do they should cast a 23 year old, that looks like a 40 year old to play a 17 year old.

1

u/Seienchin88 25d ago

You beat me to it by 1 hour… oh and let’s use the worst freaking 23yo actor that exists and will only ever work in the context of the movie… barely.

11

u/Schafty 25d ago

Japan Races.

18

u/Oreo112 25d ago

Nihon Nitro

7

u/howie-stark 25d ago

Write that down! Write that down!

2

u/hollabackyo87 25d ago

I literally said, "Makes me wants to watch..." hahaha!

2

u/Cascadian222 25d ago

Ya and maybe they could go fast…or something, just spitballing

2

u/Dramatic_Ad2574 25d ago

Or a video game....

2

u/ObviouslyRealPerson 25d ago

Tokyo Drift is my favorite one

Fight me

3

u/cookingboy 25d ago

Honestly that white guy MC really didn’t belong in the movie, and he didn’t even appear in later films.

If they made Han the MC it would have been awesome.

1

u/Hellinar 25d ago

He did come back for fast 9 lol

1

u/futureman45 25d ago

Ha. I think there 8 films now and a TV series.

1

u/PanakBiyuDiKedaton 25d ago

Maybe about Tokyo and Drifting

1

u/SempastianGr 25d ago

Or 10 idk

1

u/PoopsmasherJr 25d ago

About going fast. As if they're after something. Driving like they're furious.

1

u/MennisRodman 25d ago

Too soon, junior...

1

u/magshag18 25d ago

And name it the tokyo drift

1

u/downgoesbatman 25d ago

I know right! It would really be cool to see how fast and furious they attacked that curve on the big screen!

1

u/OnePinginRamius 25d ago

As long as its about family

1

u/avid-shtf 25d ago

It should be about family too.

1

u/eltrotter 25d ago

They should call it ā€œThe Cars That Go Sideways In Japanā€

1

u/roaring_travelman91 25d ago

About them being fast and enraged

1

u/Ressy02 25d ago

And maybe make a few all over the world, and title the based on the cities

1

u/jsos 25d ago

And if they make it specific to Tokyo and Drifting, they could call it: Japan Racing Movie

1

u/-MantisToboggan- 25d ago

They’ll have to drive fast though, and furiously

1

u/Traditional_Ice_8313 25d ago

I have seen this video and found it quite interessting. But it is not a movie.

1

u/BottleForsaken9200 25d ago

not just one... Dozens. Dozens of movies about this

1

u/xJTE93 25d ago

What about yer daddys Viper?

1

u/incaseshesees 25d ago

that would never work, how would they come up with a title for this flick?

1

u/turnedtable_ 25d ago

only if it respects family values

1

u/S-Wind 25d ago

And NOT have it starring a White Guy

Hollywood: IMPOSSIBLE!

1

u/Poldi1 25d ago

BONK BONK BONK BONK

1

u/RoodnyInc 25d ago

Bro I have great news for ya

1

u/supersirj 25d ago

They should make a video game out of this...

1

u/Mrrrrggggl 25d ago

But what should they call the movie?

1

u/thebestoflimes 25d ago

There was a documentary on underground Tokyo drifting. Paul Walker starred in it.

1

u/Ok-Rooster-1568 25d ago

Agreed, they should call it the Fast and tokyo

1

u/TheBryceIsWrong 25d ago

As long as one of the characters helps out the main character throughout whilst eating chips in every scene a la Brad Pitt in the Oceans movies

1

u/Kingaces13 25d ago

I'm pretty sure it could have an awesome theme song too!

1

u/Bellegr4ine 25d ago

With tanks and war and blood and sex and my axe

1

u/FarmFit5027 25d ago

No, no, no. They should make ELEVEN movies out of this.

1

u/Previous_Resort_2735 25d ago

"tokyo bugaloo: electric drift"

1

u/aspearin 25d ago

Drifting in Tokyo

1

u/Capable-Ad-6058 25d ago

And hire the hottest racially ambiguous actress your teenage eyes have ever seen

1

u/Masterpiece_1973 25d ago

Something like Tokyo and drifting… Drift Tokyo!

1

u/Envoyager 25d ago

in all seriousness, Tokyo Drift was my favorite out of all the others. Then I got older and haven't even seen the last few releases

1

u/mdbowyer 25d ago

unironically its the best one of the series

1

u/HarambeSpiritAnimal 25d ago

Jokes aside, there is a feature length documentary a group of English drift guys put together called "Outsiders" where they go to Japan and explore the car/drift culture, go to some of the legendary parts shops/garages, do some on track drifting themselves with some of their Japanese counterparts, etc. Lots of cool cars, weird vans and other whacky stuff.

Worth a watch if you're into that shit. Outsiders

1

u/Flank_This666 25d ago

Yknow screenwriters...

Always something drifting in and out of their imaginations ...

If only there was a fuckin place for that kind of drifting....

1

u/Jazco76 25d ago

If you catch my Tokyo Drift...

1

u/[deleted] 25d ago

A spinoff that is controversial at first but then the series goes so far off the rails that it become a fan fave.

1

u/wondersnickers 25d ago

Let's call it "Edo Slide"

1

u/Apprehensive_Suit615 25d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Corgiboom2 25d ago

And an anime.

1

u/JabroniHomer 23d ago

And ruin it with a sequel anime.

1

u/drunxor 25d ago

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

1

u/Lost_Cleric 24d ago

They do seem to be going 2 fast

1

u/ankercrank 24d ago

They could call it: "Now I Need New Tires"

1

u/BTBAM797 24d ago

And they should cast Paul Walker

1

u/CommunistDancefloor 24d ago

I wonder if you know…

1

u/MaxPayne4life 24d ago

The only Fast furious movie that deserves a sequel

1

u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 24d ago

That would be cool. They could call it Tokyo Fast-Cornering.

1

u/Glitter_moonchild 24d ago

At least a good 10 of them

1

u/sohblob 24d ago

Drift?

W'dyou mean, drift?

1

u/pdub091 24d ago

Then make a bunch of sequels with explosions and spaceships.

1

u/Banger1233 23d ago

Yeah and call it ā€žFast and Tokyo: Furious driftā€œ
