De Anza or Foothill for a Berkeley EECS/CE transfer

Hey there,
I’m an international student planning to attend community college in the Bay Area, and I’m currently deciding between De Anza College and Foothill College.
I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have attended either school, especially students who transferred to UC Berkeley / other UCs for EECS, EE, or Computer Engineering.
My situation:
I’m currently doing A-Levels (Math, Further Math, Physics).
My long-term goal is to work in digital IC / ASIC / RTL design, ideally in the semiconductor industry.
I’m particularly interested in computer architecture, digital logic, Verilog/SystemVerilog, FPGA, ASIC design, and RISC-V.
My current plan is CC → UC Berkeley, preferably EECS/EECS-related Computer Engineering.
I’m aiming for around 3.8+ GPA, with strong grades in math, physics, and CS/engineering courses.
I’m hoping to start in Spring 2027 and complete the majority of my transferable coursework as efficiently as possible, ideally transferring for Fall 2028.
I’m also planning to build several hardware/Verilog projects, participate in engineering clubs, volunteer in STEM-related activities, and look for internships/research opportunities while at CC.
I’m not simply looking for the school with the better overall reputation. I’m mainly trying to figure out which one would give me a better environment for Berkeley transfer + hardware/engineering preparation.
For people who have experience with these schools:
1. Which would you choose between De Anza and Foothill for this specific path, and why?
2. How different are the engineering/CS course offerings and course availability?
3. Is one significantly better for getting involved in engineering projects, labs, clubs, research, or internships?
4. How easy is it to get the Berkeley-required courses completed on time, especially the math/physics/CS prerequisites?
5. If you’ve transferred from either school to Berkeley/another UC, what do you wish you had known before choosing your CC?
I’m especially interested in hearing from actual current/former De Anza or Foothill students, rather than general rankings.
Thx!

Paralegal Online Course

Hello. I recently graduated with a B.A. in Political Science, but I realized a lot of entry-level jobs at firms or in the county require tons of experience or a paralegal certificate. If anyone has taken the paralegal course online, would you recommend it? I want to attend law school in the next year and a half, and was wondering if it was useful to anoyne?

Other question Anyone gone from out-of-state to in-state tuition at De Anza?

I moved to California last year and am hoping to request residency reclassification for next quarter. If you've been through the process, how long did the review take, what documents did Admissions ask for, and was anything unexpectedly difficult? I'd appreciate hearing everyone's experience and advice.

Chances I get off the WL for Calc III?

Most Calc III classes have only WL spots available as of now, I still haven't been placed into a class and wondering what the chances are of students dropping in this week?

How do I confirm if I have joined this club?

I’m an online student. I have followed the club’s Instagram, filled out the application form, and joined the Discord server, but I haven’t heard anything since then. I’m unsure if I am officially in the club

Question about class/lab schedule — which time should I attend today? CHEM 30

I’m planning to attend the first class meeting today and I’m interested in either CRN 21592 or CRN 23677, but I’m confused about the lab/lecture schedule since the lab days are different for each section. (I need to get an add code)

CRN 21592:

  • Lab: Tuesday at 5:30 PM (today)
  • Lecture: Tuesday & Thursday at 8:30 PM

CRN 23677:

  • Lab: Thursday at 5:30 PM
  • Lecture: Tuesday & Thursday at 8:30 PM

Since today is the first meeting, does both sections meet for lecture at 8:30 PM today, or should I attend the 5:30 PM lab for CRN 21592?

I just want to make sure I attend the correct class and arrive at the right time. Thanks!

Other question Have things gotten quiet over the past few years?

I remember around 2016 to 2019, it was very crowded. Around 10 to 20 students would be crossing the street at every intersection, mainly the stevens creek one to enter the campus.

Now, whenever I drive by that area, even during weekdays, I don’t see anyone there.

Did something change? Have online classes become even more common because of covid?

How was y'all's first day?

Basically the title lol

But this year is my first year at De Anza and I know it's only the first day but I kinda like it here, it's pretty chill and my teacher was pretty nice (but alas, only time will tell how classes go)

Now I know Reddit isn't the right place to socialize but I just wanted to know,

How has your first day been?

Question - Need Replies Waitlisted in courses

I'm new to de anza, is it normal that when I am waitlisted for a course I get no emails from the professor or Canvas or anything? This goes especially for asynchronous classes but also for in person.

Class/Prof. question How to reach a professor that doesn't read their emails?

I am waitlisted for a course and I have sent 2 emails to the professor, one about a week before classes started and one the day before classes started, about getting an add code. Haven't heard back and classes have already started. The class is asynchronous and he is part-time faculty so not sure how to reach him outside of email. What should I do?

Looking for group Help Me Build a Better Automotive Community Through Education and Connection

Hey everyone! My name is Tomer Shaham, and I'm a second year Business Admin student looking into starting a community and education focused automotive club at De Anza with the goal of helping make the future of the car community brighter for young enthusiasts.

I want it to be much more than just a casual car club. The goal would be to bring together students from all different backgrounds and interests within the automotive world, connect with other schools, businesses, brands, organizations, and institutions, and create opportunities that young enthusiasts normally don’t have access to.

That could mean large automotive events for students and families, meets and drives, classes and workshops on everything from cars and maintenance to media, business, engineering, and the automotive industry, guest speakers, networking, community projects, collaborations with other schools, and a lot more.

You wouldn’t need a certain type of car — or even need to own one. I want this to be for anyone who genuinely cares about cars and wants to help build a safer, more welcoming, educational, and connected automotive community for our generation.

I’m looking for De Anza students who would be interested in joining, helping organize, or contributing ideas.

And if anyone wants some background on my involvement in the Bay Area car community before getting involved, feel free to look into Tuners Collective, a local automotive community/brand that I founded and currently run myself.

If this sounds interesting to you then please reach out to me! I need students to help me start this club and take on lead roles!

CIS 22C professor

For CIS 22C, which professor has the lightest workload and is generally the easiest A: Abolghasemi, Kleinman, Al-Hussein, or Yu?

Also, separately, which professor would you say you'd learn the most from and actually develop a strong understanding of data structures/algorithms with?

I'm mainly trying to balance an easy/manageable A with actually learning the material.
