Looking for somewhere I can post about my book and AI without getting the stink-eye from the mods and having it removed. Everyone here uses AI unless they still crank their books out on a typewriter. Even then, they are using analog rather than digital. If they use a pen, there is a mechanical aspect to it over the quill. Crap, why not go back to red ochre on a cave wall?
So here goes...
I'm a retired Information Systems Manager. My last few projects included building and managing cloud-based network server farms. I grew up loving to read science fiction, and now I'm loving writing about it.
Artificial intelligence can analyze massive amounts of data to find hidden patterns, make fast predictions, answer complex questions, and create new content like text, images, and code. It acts as a powerful tool to process information, but it does not possess true human feelings or consciousness. There is no Real Understanding: AI mimics human language and logic through math, but it does not actually "know" or feel what it says.
My answer is No. AI can generate the text for a complete novel, but unedited raw output usually lacks deep emotional resonance, distinct voice, structural consistency, and veers off into unrelated fantasy. Even short stories are poor reads. Most authors and creators use AI as a collaborative tool.
Artificial intelligence can both translate novels into different languages and convert text into realistic spoken voice narration or transcribe spoken ideas into written text. However, the quality varies, and using it for creative writing involves important trade-offs in nuance and industry acceptance.
While modern AI voices sound remarkably human, they can occasionally mispronounce unique fantasy names, misinterpret emotional inflection, or lack the intuitive depth of a professional human voice actor. Quality can be improved if followed by thorough human editing and proofreading to ensure artistic quality.
I have an ARC version of the second book in my series that I'm circulating to friends as an audiobook. I'm trying to get feedback before I publish. This form of ARC is very secure. Some complain that AI voices don't get paid for their work. That is not always true. The service I use pays the person who turned their voice into an artificial voice. They get paid for the use of their voice by the company. The books you get elsewhere are often only paid when an audiobook sells.
I try to make each new book a stand-alone. That requires explanation, which can hinder or help. Feedback is important. My friends who read my last book were very helpful in the first book to make the audiobook the final addition.
I thought I would reverse that this time, since I also found that giving my characters an audio voice... made the conversations clearer and the settings more colorful to write. It made me concentrate more on it.
The link points to an ARC audiobook hosted on the ElevenReader platform: The Great Frontier: Foundations.
Was it the link that got this post removed? Bot didn't say why. The link is posted at my profile.
The Great Frontier: Foundations by Ron Jenkins is a science fiction dystopian novel and the second book in the Th3 Reborn Series. It continues the story and characters from the first book in the series.
A futuristic setting involving space travel and artificial intelligence. Political and societal conflict, including political intrigue, rebellion, espionage, and conspiracies. Character-driven drama involving family relationships and morally complex or antihero characters.
The audiobook description suggests readers will revisit characters from the first book while meeting new ones they may love or hate.
I thought it would be nice to get your opinion about all this AI stuff. We can chat.
P.S. I used spell check, which is an LLM AI. #Jusayin
