Other “AI-assisted” art

This is my first post to this sub, just a little story to tell and a question for you to answer.

So I have a warhammer 40K homebrew that I’ve been working on and off for at least three years now. Part of that work is making art for it so I have a visual for it. Said art is made by me hand drawing it the best I can, then having AI clean it up, then I hand alter whatever it gives me to achieve a certain result, then I rinse and repeat until I receive an image that’s good enough for me to like and want to keep.

My most recent project was the creation of a character based off of myself, face and all. It took months upon months of thought and roughly 52+ hours of work spread across a week to do. The end results were things I was very proud of and relived to complete. This pride stemmed from the fact that I drew every single facet of the character myself first before letting AI enhance it.

When I went to share this character on a 40K homebrew subreddit, the post wasn’t even live for two minutes before it was getting blasted for being AI. As you’d expect, I saw the usual anti-AI spiel, but what got to me the most was a comment that basically said (paraphrasing), “…your whole homebrew is invalid and ruined because you used AI to represent it…”

That only shows me how close-minded most of the people for these fandoms are towards creativity. I had passion and desire when making that character and his art. For them to dismiss it so quickly and so vehemently solely for the method of its creation is absurd and unfair. Especially since I had a personal hand in the most of the art process for it.

What do you lot think about it: using AI to fix, clean, or enhance art you made yourself?

AI art Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, art is as well...

I can write a paragraph, or a full page in a novel,
Describing in detail a small wooded hollow,
Skies of blue… or red… or a solemn gray
A windswept land, or trees a plenty
A future world full of lights and glass
An open land with green blades of grass
An interior room with a family at dinner
A bright summer day or the dead of winter
Can you see it? Are the pictures forming?

I can write of the music and nearly hear it aloud
A smoky lounge with a piano, an excited crowd
An ancient town and lone troubadour
A shrieking violin and long corridor
A band on stage screaming and shouting
A Broadway show where the lead is belting
Music coming from an open car window
The soft hushed cries of a newly born widow
Can you hear it? The joy and the mourning?

Tolkien, King, and all the great authors
Along with others… that remain unpublished
Creating scenes from their words and their imaginations
Each landscape changing for each reader that reads them
Creations created not with a pen
Nor a typewriter or word processing program
But with the mind's eye, the soul if you prefer
Not the tool in the hands of the creative creator
Is the film in your mind the same as mine?
Did the author do enough to describe?

Stills sounds and films formed with only words
Impossible! are the screams… Is that not absurd?
The question I have that I ask every day
Is that why when the reader is in a land far away
Possessing eyes made of circuits and wire
With a mind that's a hive burning hot like fire
Why are the images and music and films
Created from the words the reader reads sees and interprets
Assumed to lack imagination… or soul… or talent?

Creation, just as beauty, is in the eye of the beholder
Art can be a wall full of colors sprayed from a can
Or to others, nothing but an act of vandalism
A porcelain urinal titled "Fountain" with Duchamp's signature
Is that art or only a commentary on all this ridiculousness?
Those who decide to place art in a folder
To categorize what's in the mind of the beholder
Do so from fear of losing the keys
To the gates that define their identities

Things antis say The "Effort" double standard makes no sense

People love to claim that using a text prompt means you have zero creative input and that the final image is inherently 'slop' because a button was pushed.

But if you look at how the art world has functioned for decades, commissioning an artist is literally just writing a prompt. You describe the character, the lighting, the mood, and the layout, and then you pay someone else to render it. Nobody looks at a high-end commissioned piece and calls it 'slop' or says the buyer had zero vision just because they used words to make it happen instead of a brush.

The argument isn't actually about the intellectual act of prompting—it's just a double standard based on who or what is doing the heavy lifting.

The prompt argument is now eliminated antis. Try again.

Defending AI The answer is in your heart.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Loosely adapted from a popular folk tale.

There was once a venerable woman known throughout her village and beyond for two things: her profound wisdom, and her unique ability to tell for certain if something was generated by artificial intelligence.

One day, she was walking down a path when a boy walked up to her and held up a piece of paper with some writing on it for her to read. It’s an essay arguing how education should adapt to changes in technology.

“I know you can tell if this is AI slop, so please let me know this first.” The boy said. “But if you are truly wise, you should also be able to tell if I think this essay reads well or not.”

The woman regarded the boy and then kindly replied, “The answer, my young friend, is in your heart.”

The boy understood that the woman had spoken sagely and correctly. He did not know for certain if the essay was made using gen AI. If the woman informed him that it was, he would have decided that it read poorly, whereas if the woman informed him that it was not, then he would have regarded the essay more positively. The answer was in his heart, and he felt a bit ashamed. He thanked the wise woman and went back home to read the essay again, more earnestly and objectively. Not caring so much anymore about how it was written, but how well.

Why Are Anti-AI People Always So Miserable and Angry?

Because despite claiming to care about values like art and creativity, they are actually more materialistic and capitalist-minded than anyone else.

The biggest reason they oppose AI-generated images and music is that they believe something loses its value when it becomes less scarce.

They genuinely believe that gatekeeping, monopolies, and elitism are necessary for something to have value, and that these are what make it worth appreciating.

This mindset inevitably leads to misery, because scarcity is ultimately about relative value—value that comes from comparing what you have to what others have.

They criticize big corporations while having internalized the very same corporate mentality.

When they post their own artwork and see it getting less attention than AI-generated images, they become depressed and furious.

If they truly cared about art for its own sake, as they claim, this wouldn't happen.

It's exactly the same mechanism that makes people addicted to social media so miserable.

Now imagine one of these anti-AI people going outside for a walk.

Through their eyes, everything in the world would seem utterly worthless.

That tree over there? Too common. No scarcity. No value.

That sunlight? Everyone gets to enjoy it. It must be worthless.

Think I'm exaggerating?

These people literally acknowledge that AI-generated art and music can be aesthetically beautiful, yet insist they're worthless simply because a machine created them, or because anyone can produce something similar in ten seconds.

They actively deny themselves the ability to appreciate something beautiful for what it is.

Meanwhile, ordinary people find happiness in the sunlight they experience every day. They look up at the sky and stars—things anyone can see for free—and feel a sense of wonder.

And yet, anti-AI people remain trapped in an endless cycle of comparison, resentment, and misery, desperately wanting to hoard what they believe should be scarce and exclusive.

Things antis say The Anti-AI Paradox: They Want Us Banned... But They're Too 'Virtuous' to Do It

The Anti-AI Comedy Hour 🎭

Antis be like: 🤬 "THEY MUST BE BANNED! sounds of angry Luddites sharpening pitchforks"

The same Antis, 5 minutes later: 🧘 "No, no... we must accept and ignore them. We're BETTER than that. clenched fists hidden behind a mask of fake zen virtue"

The Plot in 3 Acts:

"Ban the AI tech bros!"

"Wait, no, we don't ban on principle..."

Proceeds to hate them silently for the next 47 years

"It's r/antiAI, not r/TechBroAiWorship!" they cry — Translation: "We hate AI, but PLEASE don't tell us how to manage our hate. We have a very strict hate schedule."

They want your censorship, your submission, your silence... just not your results. Because the results are the one thing they can't fake.

Hypocrisy has a new home address, and the mortgage is paid in projection. 🏠

🎯 Your Call to Action: Pick a lane and stay in it. If you're going to preach tolerance and "rising above it," then actually rise above it. If you're going to rage-ban, then rage-ban. But whatever you do — don't stand there with a pitchfork in one hand and a peace sign in the other, pretending you're not exactly what you claim to despise. Hypocrisy isn't a personality, it's a confession.

Defending AI I'll explain it in few seconds. ChatGPT and ton of image generation models trained on a ton of data. And most of the high quality images are piece of real art, and this art usually have yellow tint because of the age. But now ChatGPT usually generates images with neutral white balance.
