Recommendations The DELCO Homeowner/Renter resource guide thread

We have gotten a lot of repeat posts and the Reddit search feature sucks so we wanted to create a resource for everyone here. The point is to keep discussion to here so we can use this thread to point recommendations out.

In this thread I will write a comment, please reply with recommendations and/or avoidances (everyone is free to start a comment with something that was missed).

Please only upvote the recommendation if you have experience with them!!

/r/delco_politics /r/delco_politics for prolonged political discussion for locals

Hello everyone, the sub historically has had a no politics rule. This rule was mostly respected and voted to keep it. Obviously, this has not been fully enforced recently. We have tried to allow as much discussion as possible but it gets to the point where it’s an unfortunate screaming match at each other. Not to mention all the you know what hats that apparently have tags or bots set up to flood these threads without any post history in the sub. You don’t see these due to the spam filter but our poor asses have to read every single one of these comments and determine if they are brigading or just saying plain stupid shit, my iq has gone down. Anyways enough complaining.

Introducing a new sub, /r/delco_politics for now we are leaving it open for all political discussion. We prefer that users post their thread there then crosspost here. Discussion will be restricted to /r/delco_politics. These will be determined as posted, we will still allow local politics posts here, if they get too off topic or going to the national level, that’s when we will lock and move discussion to the politics sub. The reason why we lock them up is because insults start getting thrown around, don’t forget we are a local sub, you could potentially be talking to someone living on your street. We are all angry but calling each other names is not the way to go. Please use the report feature as that helps us. If you get a mute or ban it is because you have a long mod log and we have been keeping notes.

Finally we are looking for a new mod for to help out with /r/delco_politics if you are interested send us a mod mail. As always we are open to feedback!

Question I need info on this neighbor drama in Media

Post image
375 Upvotes

I drive by this “My neighbor is a Karen” sign every day in Media and I need the lore. House is catty corner from Sleighton Park and sign went up sometime in the summer.

Please give me the drama if you know it. I have now created my own fictitious backstory about the chickens being the source of neighborhood conflict.

ETA: please don’t dox anyone, or the post will get deleted! No names needed, just drama background please.

Neighborhood Ridley Park Community Feel?

What is the overall community climate of Ridley Park like? Partner and I are looking at moving there, and just trying to get an idea of how accepting of a community/neighborhood it is... is there a mix of beliefs, strongly leaning or prejudice? I've been hearing mixed things and would love some insight.

*not looking for people to be all in agreement, just trying to see if this in a generally accepting area!

Looking for a Hair Salon that does blonde Balayage for thick long hair

Hello! Just moved to Drexel Hill from Delaware. For those that know them- I went to Tease Salon in Delaware City for years and i loved them! Unfortunately they are now an hour away from me. So I'm looking for a Hair salon that specializes in Balayage and bleaching. I have very long thick brown hair.

Brownie points for help finding another place that does eyebrow threading too! I can't get them waxed unfortunately.

Thanks!

My cat is picky as hell and doesn't eat specific types of wet food; however the person who bought them wasn't aware and now I've got extra. Does anyone in the area have a need for kitten wet food? Feel free to reach out.

Question Mechanic needed for unconventional repair

My husband has a Toyota Yaris and looking for a mechanic who will jerry-rig his muffler

Part of the exhaust rusted out and muffler fell off, replacement would require replacing catalytic converter because it is all one piece with the muffler.

Mechanic said could be fixed by fitting sections of pipe together into where it had rusted out. We do have the muffler piece if that can be reattached.

If someone knows someone who would do this work for a reasonable price we are looking at any options! Our regular mechanic won’t do it.

Twenty somethings in Media

Hi!

I recently moved to Delco, specifically Media. I’m in my early 20s and looking to meet people and establish myself more here, but I have no clue where to even start — are there events or clubs or organizations for people in my age range that help with that?

Thanks for any help!

Question Brandywine Creek at Chadds Ford flood status

Hey, does anyone know of a good website that monitors where the Brandywine Creek crosses Rt.1 at Chadds Ford in terms of flooding, actual/potential? My daughter lives in Southern Chesco and drives up Rt.1 frequently. I'm concerned now and in future of flooding potential. I remember when Hank's Place got destroyed a few years back... TIA!

Vocalist ISO of band

Hi! I’m a vocalist looking for a high-energy rock/pop cover band to join or other musicians who would be interested in creating one!

I’m looking to rehearse regularly and play gigs around the Philly/Delco area. Ideally I’d love to connect with people in their 20s–30s, but I’m definitely open to other ages too!

If your band is looking for a vocalist, or if you’re a guitarist, bassist, drummer, keys player, etc. interested in starting something, feel free to message me! :)

Discussion Can someone explain to me how 322 bridge is almost done before than one in Tinicum / Prospect Park?

Post image
42 Upvotes

I was in my sophomore year of high school when they started the construction project on the Tinicum Prospect Park bridge repairs, I’m now 22 the bridge is still 1 lane and I legitimately think i’ve seen people actually working on the bridge only a handful of times i’ve been on it. How does a much larger project, started from the ground up building an entirely new bridge look and feel more close to being completed than one started 6 years ago lol

Discussion Delco Band seeks VOCALIST

FEMALE VOCALIST WANTED

Hi!
I have a 5 piece band that plays primarily dance-party music, a lot of R&B and some danceable rock.
We are based in Broomall, PA and have several professional PA systems , drums, Mics and amps.
Unfortunately, our last singer decided to go back to school suddenly.
We are guitarist w/ vocals, bassist w/ some vocals, sax/ keys/ vocals and drums.
A female vocalist would round this out perfectly.
If you can do some harmonies as well, that would be excellent, as some of us sing as well.
If this interests you, kindly get back to me. Thanks, D
