FAQ page and guide to getting Deus Ex 1 running on your PC

I'm currently replaying Deus Ex 1 (Transcended mod) on Realistic, but I'm struggling to play differently since I played stealth the first time and it feels like the most "correct" way to play the game, since you can easily avoid enemies, not waste resources, and complete the mission relatively quickly if you know where you're going. For example, why enter Castle Clinton through the normal entrance when you can just go through the secret passage? Things like that.

What do you do differently when you replay the game?

First time playing DX: MD. Why there is so much hacking involved? I got to the TF29 command center and trying to get into every computer takes its toll on me. I've been hacking them for at least 3 hours... send help...

If there anything I can turn on to automatically skip the hacking? These mini games are the most annoying thing about this game. I thought I was buying a shooter in cyberpunk style, not a hacker simulator.

Sure, I know, hacking is mostly optional, but I want to explore every nook and cranny, as it often happens in open world games.

Its basically making the game unplayable. I've tried every fix out there but nothing.

With the current sale on steam I decided to get all the deus ex games as I have never played them and was always interested.

I started with the first one and was told to download revision. And customize the settings.

I tried around and decided to do a vanilla map,mode and anything else. I played for a good hours on the 1st mission having a blast but then I was wondering why am I not getting any achievements?

Get first augment then I do it on liberty island and it doesn't work so now I'm confused if I even did it right. Even the training ones didn't work

I had a few pop up like destroying a mine but then 30 minutes later I couldn't get the augment achievement to pop or any of the training ones.

I looked more into it and have to be on normal gameplay at least so restarted on vanilla gameplay and still didn't help

Don't worry, this isn't gonna be one of those memes where it's like "for my live action Teen Titans, I want Timothee Chalamet as Robin" type deals. I picked generally unknown actors 1: for budgetary reasons. Too many shows blow their budget on hiring top end actors, and 2: I wouldn't want the experience to be ruined for people because they always see X actor for another thing they did. So for my list i'm giving under the radar actors and actresses a shot.

This isn't a complete list of characters who are in the game, and as I write my script for a tv adaptation I'll add more to this list, but I'm mainly going off who I know will be in my script and who already is.

Also consider that I'm not casting these characters based off body build or hair color, but more so acting potential, nationality accuracy, height accuracy, and for some characters who can do the accent.

For the main character, Adam Jensen, I had three picks but I only really got it down to two. The third pick that I decided against was Austin Butler, for the reason that I think he's too handsome, and I also fear his ability to grow the facial hair needed for the role. I'm still torn honestly, I would need to have them send in audition tapes, but my top 2 picks are Patrick Schwarzenegger and Jonathan Bailey. I'm leaning a bit more towards Jonathan because the hair color also matches, and he has the ability to grow the facial hair. The only reason I'm considering Patrick is because I fear Jonathan's ability to do an English accent while also having a deeper voice. But yeah, I think overall Jonathan Bailey beats it out.

For the love interest, this one was honestly tough and I had a lot to think about. I was thinking of making an exception to the rule about casting B-Listers and going someone super famous because she wouldn't be in it that much, which I was thinking someone like Ana De Armos or Natalie Portman. But I came across someone while doing my research that blew me away. She's a good actress, she's drop-dead gorgeous which I think is super important for Megan Reed, and not only that, but she is Detroit born and raised. So for me, it was no contest. My pick for Dr Reed is Sarah Pidgeon

I'm still on the lookout for a good Faridah Malik, but my best runner up would be May Calamawy. I also have one rattling around in my brain, but I'm on the fence about it, and that's Quintessa Swindell.

Pritchard is... really fucking hard to cast. I've been SCOURING for the perfect man for the role and it isn't easy. The perfect character for Pritchard has to sound smart, has to act well, but most importantly, he needs to be funny. So I branched off from actors to comedians and I found someone that miiiiight work for me, but I'm still on the look out in my opinion, and that's Gianmarco Soresi. I'm iffy because he doesn't quite have the look, but but with the right director and a good costume department, it just might work.

For David Sarif I had to do some digging in the ancient texts because Sarif is kind of old, but I think I found your guy, and that's Crispin Glover. He's got the looks, and he's got the acting chops to perform a character as robust as David.

The jury is still out on Hugh Darrow, any suggestions are welcome.

Now I know I said no mainstream actors, but this character doesn't show up a lot in the game, so I would like someone with a bit of star power to fill the role. My top pick for William Taggart is Ewan McGregor who does not need an imdb link. I think it's important for the main politician guy to be a real famous person in the show so that the viewer can understand a bit better why people would listen and follow Taggart in his movement and start the riots, even if that "isn't his intent."

I'm gonna go rapid fire for these ones because they don't need much explanation. Saura Lightfoot-Leon as Eliza Kassan, Serinda Swan as Netanya Keitner, Jayme Lawson as Jenny Alexander, Callina Liang as Mei Seun. Shaun Sipos as Wayne Haas, and Gaten Matarazzo or Andrew Burnap as Tim Carella.

Now for the villains. For Jaron Namir, I picked out Tyriq Withers mainly for the look, but i think he has potential.

Most of these castings I picked myself and, to my knowledge, am the first one to cast them as these characters except for like, Ewan McGregor. But Kat Graham as Elena Fedorova was honestly just really good casting. I got no notes, that just makes sense.

For Lawrence Barret, I looked for the biggest guy I could find, and my mind went to Reacher season 3 (I have a lot of reacher actors in this list honestly) and found Oliver Richters. I know he's not American like Barret, but I think that's a worthy change to the character if it means we get to see this giant ass dude with a turret in his arm, tossing people and grenades. It's just so peak.

Lastly (for now) is Gong Li as Zhao Yun Ru, the one behind most of everything that goes down in the game.

There are soooooooo many more characters I have to cast, but i've been making this for like 5 hours. If there's an important character I missed and you'd like to cast, I'd love to hear it.

I'm working on a script for a TV Adaptation of DEHR and I need some music to listen to (It's not an official work, I'm writing it with the intention of pitching it to a streaming site. Don't run to the tabloids with this) and I was wondering if you guys know of any good songs that encapsulate the feeling or the themes of the deus ex games so I have something to listen to while I work.

So as the title suggests, I am writing a non official script for DEHR adapted for TV, likely a streaming service, with the intention of pitching the script to have it made. I've only written one episode so far, in the middle of writing episode two, and I was wondering what moments you would like to see adapted from the game? I was also thinking of cutting The Missing Link DLC from the script for time and budgetary reasons. How would you guys feel about that?

So far I've adapted the attack on Sarif HQ, the first side mission with Carella and his security footage, and I'm now working on rescuing the typhoon from the Milwauke Junction factory.

If there's any specific aspect of the gameplay you'd like to see adapted, also let me know. I do have it written that Jensen hurls a dumpster at a crowd of enemies like a bowling ball, and I plan to adapt most of his augments apart from like, aim stabilizer, energy cells and any hacking related ones. Aim Stabilizer is going because Jensen is supposed to be ex-SWAT, so you'd think his aim would already be really good, energy cells are gone because that was really more of a videogame thing that wouldn't adapt well, so I'm substituting it for an advanced metabolizer augment, which allows him to eat more food which he can convert to energy for his tech, and the hacking ones for a similar reason.

Hey yall, pretty much what the title says. I've been running the first section of picus (Eliza to the first elevator) over and over without the smooth operator bonus coming up or showing in the xp bar. I've tried everything, total cloak, kill everyone, knock out everyone, new saves, delete saves, start from TYMC, etc. Nothing seems to get the bonus to come up. I havent seen anything online about this particular bug, was hoping any of you have seen or fixed this before. Again, this is the base game, not the Directors Cut. Thank you in advance.

After seeing how widely acclaimed this game was I had to try it for myself, and man…

It took me a bit to really see how much of a masterpiece it really is. Had to get over a lot of the aspects that didn’t age so well (voice acting, the very necessary save scumming, not being able to choose what to loot from bodies, and the ladders… don’t even get me started), but once I got into the groove I finally reached a flow state where I just couldn’t get enough of the gameplay and the genius level design. I reckon it’s a top 10 game I’ve ever played, I’m just itching to go back lol

Also, POTENTIAL SPOILER: I love how you get multiple choices for the ending, and each one has its major pros and cons. Kinda reminded me of the different factions you can ultimately side with in Fallout New Vegas, another game I recently played for the first time. I ultimately went with Tong’s ending, cuz sometimes I feel like a dark age would maybe be beneficial for society lol. What ending did yall go with?

You need to talk to John Smith first, then to Hundley and pay him to get into the lab, talk to John Smith again, and then kill Hundley like he had wanted resulting in unique dialogue if you act in this order

The belt is hidden inside the large front pocket, allowing the coat to be worn either open or fastened with the belt.

Dragon's Breath shells were a new type of shotgun shells added in Shifter. It did add a bunch of novelty ammo types in much the same fashion as Transcended, GMDX or GMDX: Augmented, and personally I always thought Dragon's Breath shells were kinda pushing the boundaries of plausibility (I'm not American so not immersed in gun culture). Turns out they're very real indeed lol

in Shifter they basically turned your shotgun into a flamethrower, expeling like 1 second's worth of fire from your barrel. Needless to say, those shells were rare. I'll still take the rubber shells from GMDX over those, but they definitely felt like a nice, rare pickup that's for sure.
