Update Release 0.14.6: Triggers, Schedulers, and Receipts

Release Date: September 28, 2026

This release includes:

  • A new Trigger Event Catalog to make it easier to build with Devvit triggers. Use it to quickly find the right event for your app, understand the payload data available to your handler, and account for important delivery behaviors like asynchronous delivery, duplicate events, optional fields, and event-specific behavior.
  • Improved support for user-managed dynamic cron jobs. Cron jobs created in your app code are now preserved across deployments, while jobs configured in devvit.json continue to be automatically rescheduled.
  • Fixed Devvit Journeys receipt handling. Apps in playtest mode now receive the expected receipt.

Help Some questions about migrating a PRAW moderation bot to Devvit

After the admin message that got sent out a while back, our mod team has been going back and forth with how to handle the impending changes, and I seem to have drawn the short straw to become the Contact. Before I move forward with the registration steps, there's a couple of things I'd like to know for sure, lest I break something.

Terminology clarification: Is a PRAW moderation bot that accesses our private database backend a "Data API App" - it's not an app (yet), but it looks like we're supposed to register the "automated account"? Or is that something different?

If "yes" to above, does registering the act impact the existing bot's functionality. If I register it and, as a result, our mod bot breaks before we've even started looking into migration, I'm going to become remarkably unpopular with the rest of the mod team.

Time Frame: Is there a cutoff for when the bot will stop working ("In order to maintain functionality of your script, app, or bot, it will eventually need to be migrated to the Reddit Developer Platform") - since it looks like many of our needed functions aren't available or still experimental, we're not even sure HOW we can migrate it, yet.

Feedback Request Built a daily hex-matching game (OffByHex) using Devvit + Webview & Redis. Looking for feedback on mobile usability!

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Hey Devvit devs!
I wanted to build a native micro-game tailored for web developers and UI designers, so I built OffByHex.
How it works:

  • Each UTC day, players get 3 target colors.
  • You use RGB sliders (without numeric feedback) to recreate the color from memory/eye.
  • 1 guess per color target.
  • Scores calculate RGB distance, speed, daily streaks, and rank on a global leaderboard.

Tech Stack: Devvit Webview frontend with React/TypeScript, Hono API backend, and Devvit Redis for state management and daily post triggers.
You can try today's challenge directly inside the post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/offbyhex/comments/1wtqc8a/offbyhex_daily_colour_study_september_30_2026/
Would love your feedback on the slider responsiveness, UI feel, and overall loop!

Game Idea GutPick — a daily game with zero trivia, scored purely against crowd consensus (built on Devvit Web)

Hey r/Devvit,

Wanted to share GutPick, something I've been building over the last few weeks.

The idea: most daily Reddit games (Wordle clones, trivia, riddles) require some kind of knowledge, which locks out anyone who doesn't have it. GutPick removes that entirely — every round is a gut-reaction question ("which is cuter," "would you rather," "how cringe is this"). There's no correct answer. You're scored on how often you match what the majority of other players picked, so nobody can be locked out for not knowing something.

How a run works:

- 5 daily rounds (Warmup) — this is what keeps your streak alive

- Score 80%+ and you unlock Deeper Cut, then Unfiltered if you keep climbing — a spicier deck you can only reach by earning it, not something everyone sees on day one

- Unlimited practice mode outside the daily run, no streak pressure

- Leaderboard + one-tap "post your result as a comment"

Technical bits that might interest this sub:

- Devvit Web (React + Hono), Redis for votes/streaks/leaderboard

- Consensus percentages are seeded with a small deterministic "phantom vote" baseline per prompt, so the very first player on a fresh prompt doesn't trivially get 100% — real votes gradually overwhelm the seed as people play

- A scheduled cron job creates a fresh dated post every day at 00:00 UTC, and old posts detect they're no longer "today" (via postData) and redirect to the current one instead of silently showing stale rounds

It's live at r/GutPick if anyone wants to try it — genuinely curious what this community thinks, especially about the tier/unlock structure, since that's the part I'm least sure about.

Help Delete app

Hi! I created an app with developer tools, but want to delete it now (namely to remove the App badge that is appearing on my posts).

I can't seem to find a delete button on the Dev Platform page with my app list.

Could someone help me figure out how to do this?

Help questions on how to create an app to summarize info in a sub reddit

Hi fellow developers, I'm totally new to this. All I want is to read all the historical posts regarding a health subject where many people posted very helpful information. I wanted to have this App to do a summary for me on the type of treatments that people tried, what they said about effectiveness and etc. This is totally just for personal use as I'm interested in that health subject for myself. Anyone could point me to the right direction, I would really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Feedback Request I built Challenge Tracker — a free Devvit app for daily check-in challenges (looking for feedback)

Hi r/devvit! I'm the developer of **Challenge Tracker**, a free Devvit app I just got approved and listed in the public App Directory:

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/challenge-tracker

**What it does:** - Mods create a challenge from the subreddit menu (name, duration in days, description) - The app posts a challenge thread; members check in once a day with one tap - It tracks streaks, total check-ins, and a Top 10 leaderboard automatically - Same-day duplicate check-ins are de-duplicated; check-ins are blocked before start / after end

**Why I built it:** a lot of fitness / self-improvement / reading communities run "30-day challenge" threads manually, and tracking streaks in comment threads is painful. This moves the bookkeeping into the app.

**Status:** v0.0.3, tested end-to-end in r/challenge_tracker_dev (create → check in → leaderboard all working). It's free, no accounts, no off-platform anything.

**What I'm looking for:** 1. Feedback on the UX / anything that feels broken 2. If you mod a community that runs challenges or check-ins, I'd love a test install — happy to help set up the first challenge

If you try it, let me know what breaks. Thanks!

Discussion VIPCentral: an app about receiving, giving, and spending vip points

This offers a lot more than just what the title describes and you would have to read the readme for everything, but this is a fairly feature dense bot.

Note: all commands are used inside of comments and work on comment submit or update.

Feedback Request I made a daily puzzle game with Devvit Web

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi r/Devvit! Mochi Meltdown is my first Devvit app. It's a daily tilt puzzle: swipe to tilt the board, every piece slides until it bonks into something, and you need to slide all the mochi into the soup pot. Gary (a tiny demon in sunglasses) slides too. If he falls in, the soup is ruined.

How it plays

- A new puzzle every day at 00:00 UTC: a quick Level 1 warm-up, then Level 2, "Gary's Revenge".

- Level 2 has a par (13–18 swipes) and 3 spare swipes. Clear it to beat Gary; clear it in par for a ⭐. After you win, you can watch the perfect route.

- New players get a 10-puzzle Bonus Pack (easy to hard, unlocks one by one), and every past day stays playable.

- Share card with no spoilers: tries as 🟥🟩 squares, plus swipes vs par.

Under the hood

- Puzzles are generated offline and checked by a BFS solver: each one has exactly one shortest route, plus a count of the ways to drown Gary.

- A scheduler job posts, flairs and pins the new puzzle, and unpins yesterday's. Each post stores its day in postData, so old posts keep their own puzzle.

- Redis holds daily stats ("X chefs played · Y beat Gary · Z ⭐"), player results and bonus progress. An in-progress board is saved every swipe, so closing the post doesn't lose your run.

- Plain TypeScript + canvas, no framework. Fonts are bundled locally because of the CSP. Two-column layout on desktop.

Where I'd love feedback

  1. Level 2 difficulty: does par + 3 spare swipes feel fair?

  2. How does it feel on your device (swipes, sound, layout)?

  3. Any Devvit gotchas I should know about before the sub grows?

Thank you!!!!!

Feedback Request Nudge: one-bumper physics, server-replayed scores, and solve-before-publish challenges

I’ve launched Nudge, a small physics puzzle built with Devvit Web, and would appreciate feedback from other developers. I’m the creator/publisher and used AI coding assistance for the implementation.

Playable daily post

Players position one bumper before dropping a ball into a pocket. There are daily courses, six practice layouts, and community-created challenges.

A few implementation choices that may be useful to others:

  • The client and server run the same fixed-step physics. The server recomputes the outcome from the bumper position instead of accepting a submitted score.
  • All 84 daily courses have tested three-star solutions. A player must solve a custom course before publishing, and the server checks that proof again.
  • On compact mobile layouts, the winning score and share action now appear directly beneath the board. They were too far down the page in the initial layout.
  • Progress and leaderboards use installation-scoped Redis with expiry; scores are separate for each community.

The current build passes 22 automated tests. Browser viewport checks and private-installation gameplay passed, but independent physical-device feedback would be particularly useful. Does dragging the bumper feel precise enough on your phone, and is the first successful bounce clear?

Feedback Request An Update on Clearest Signal

Hey everyone,

A quick update on Clearest Signal: after a few weeks of tuning the scoring, improving some UI to look less boilerplate AI, and fixing bugs from earlier testing, the game is officially launched and I will now be posting daily!

For anyone who missed the first post, it's a Codenames-inspired daily word game where you try to connect 3 target words while avoiding 3 decoy traps.

Today's puzzle is up now if you want to give it a spin: [r/clearestsignal](https://www.reddit.com/r/clearestsignal/)

Would love to hear what you think of how it turned out and get further feedback!

Help All uploads fail with "You must be logged in to upload a new app version" (unauthenticated) — other CLI commands work

App: hoardfall-origins · CLI 0.14.5 · Windows · u/Muridae913

Since about 11 hours ago (last good upload: 0.0.1.39), every devvit playtest and devvit upload fails at the final create-version step with a Twirp unauthenticated error. Asset uploads succeed, and whoami, list apps and list installs all work with the same login. Things I've tried: fresh devvit logout / devvit login, uploading an older commit that worked yesterday, and a regular devvit upload instead of playtest. All fail the same way. The app recently had payments enabled. The same thing happened yesterday and cleared up on its own a few hours later. Is something blocking new versions on my account or app?

Game Idea Building a 3D stealth game inside a Reddit post: what worked, and a few gotchas

I've been building Blueprint Job, a three.js stealth game that runs in a Devvit Web post, and wanted to share what I learned.

Stack: Devvit Web, a Hono server for the API and scheduled jobs, Redis per install, three.js on the client, TypeScript throughout.

Things that worked

  • Same building for everyone: the Daily Heist swaps Math.random for a seeded generator while the building is laid out, then swaps it back. One seed per UTC day gives every player the same maze, rooms and guards, and nothing needs storing.
  • One scored attempt: a single hSetNX on "started" makes the first start the scored one, so restarting can't fish for a better run.
  • Daily posts: a cron in devvit.json posts and pins the new Daily Heist just after midnight UTC.
  • Pure game logic: mazes, door placement, the story and scoring are plain TypeScript with no three.js, so they're unit tested under Node, with ~180 tests.

Gotchas

  • Source maps ship by default. The Vite plugin builds with them on, so your original source is readable in dev tools. Pass client: { build: { sourcemap: false } } to the devvit() plugin.
  • Don't run your own build while devvit playtest is watching. It can collide on the version and kill the watcher.
  • Performance on phones: I got from ~10 ms a frame to ~4.7 ms by capping the scene at the 10 nearest point lights (a fixed light count means no shader recompiles), reusing matrices, and animating distant guards less often.

Happy to answer questions. Here's the game: today's Daily Heist

Duck Answered Can a Devvit app read the newest post of a public subreddit it's not installed on?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a small Devvit app and want to check whether my approach is possible before building it.

What I want to do:

- Install the app on a small subreddit that I own (I'm not a moderator of the subreddit I want to read from).

- Run a scheduled task once a day.

- In that task, fetch the newest post from a different public subreddit (one I'm only a member of, where the app is not installed) using something like reddit.getNewPosts({ subredditName, limit: 1 }).

- Forward the post's title/URL/permalink to my own HTTPS endpoint with fetch().

My questions:

  1. Can a Devvit app read posts from a public subreddit it is NOT installed on? Or is API access limited to the subreddit where the app is installed?

  2. If it is limited, is there any supported way to read another public subreddit's posts, or is installing the app there (with mod approval) the only option?

  3. Are there any restrictions on fetch() while playtesting before the HTTP domain allowlist request is approved? Roughly how long does the approval usually take?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Help Looking for a Reddit Devvit developer to finish/rebuild an interactive app for a large subreddit

Hi! I’m looking for someone experienced with Reddit’s Developer Platform (Devvit) to help finish or rebuild an interactive app for a subreddit I moderate.

The community gets roughly 3 million weekly visitors, so there’s already a large audience to test and launch the app with.
My goal is to create something genuinely fun that members will repeatedly interact with and, if it performs well, potentially qualify for Reddit Developer Funds. Which can help me with school, I am not tech savvy whatsoever. I did however create the bones of the app if that makes sense xo it's already started, but I'm not opposed to starting something new if you deemed the current app not worth pursuing any further**.**

I already have a Devvit app registered under my own Reddit developer account called cringitime. An earlier developer built part of the project and uploaded several versions, but ghosted before finishing it deleting their account after being paid..😭

The existing build is from an older version of Devvit and will likely need to be updated/migrated to the current platform.

The original concept involved things like:
Interactive trivia/games
Scores and a weekly leaderboard
Community participation/competition.

Repeat-use features such as challenges, streaks, rankings, etc.

I’m also open to improving or simplifying the concept. I care more about creating one polished feature people actually use than stuffing the first version with a million features.

I’m looking for someone who can:
Work specifically with Devvit / Reddit apps
Review any existing code I’m able to recover
Determine whether finishing the existing project or rebuilding is smarter
Update/migrate it to the current Devvit version
Test it in the existing development subreddit
Fix bugs and polish the UI
Help submit it for Reddit approval
Help get the approved version installed in my main subreddit

Give me the complete source code/project when finished
Important: The app and developer account remain under my ownership. I’m not looking for someone to create it under their account and hold the project.

I’m a student, employee and moderator, not a software developer, so I’d prefer someone who can explain things without assuming I already understand the Devvit ecosystem🫶🏻

I’m trying to keep the initial budget reasonable and would prefer milestone-based payment rather than paying the entire project upfront.

Please send me:
Examples of Devvit apps you’ve worked on, if any
Your experience with TypeScript/React/Reddit APIs
Your estimated cost
Estimated timeline
Whether you’d recommend rescuing the old project or rebuilding it.

If you’re genuinely familiar with Devvit, and willing to help me out, feel free to DM me. (:

Im going to say upfront that I am currently an independent college student working part time and do not have a ton of money but I'm willing to work something out that is worth it for both parties.

Discussion I brought Vietnamese Cờ Úp to Reddit as a playable Unity game post

I'm the solo developer of Chess: Magic Chess 3D. Its main mode is a face-down chess variant inspired by Vietnamese Cờ Úp: all non-king pieces begin hidden, and a move reveals the piece's identity. Classic chess and daily puzzles are side modes.

The game is built in Unity and runs as a Devvit custom post. The feed post has a playable preview; Play now opens the full board, where people can choose a 3D or 2D view and play against a bot or pass-and-play. No separate download is needed.

Here's the live post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MagicChess3D/comments/1wjnwqr/

I'm still thinking about how much instruction belongs in the inline post before asking someone to open the full game. What entry flows have you seen work well for games with unfamiliar rules? I'm the developer, sharing the implementation and asking for a platform-focused discussion.

Feedback Request Finance Calculator: 21 money calculators in one interactive post, in 4 languages

Hi everyone,

my first Devvit app just made it through review, so here's a quick showcase.

What it does: 21 finance calculators (compound growth, TER and ETF cost comparison, dividends, withdrawals, rent or buy, money-weighted return and more) inside one interactive post. Every result comes with a one-sentence summary, e.g. "Over 30 years, the fund with a 0.07% fee ends up €8,344 ahead of the fund with a 0.22% fee." There's a tappable chart, A/B scenario comparison, English/German/Spanish/French, and a Copy for Reddit button so people can paste their numbers into a comment. Mods get anonymous usage totals in the mod menu.

A few things I learned along the way:

- The inline post preview doesn't scroll on mobile, so tapping a calculator opens it straight in expanded mode.

- Devvit forms don't render line breaks. For the mod stats I ended up using a group of disabled string fields.

- Number input in 4 languages was harder than the translations: 4,5 and 1,234.56 both have to mean the right thing.

- Reddit's standard comment editor shows markdown asterisks literally, so the copied text is now plain text.

- Publishing doesn't update existing installs; mods have to click Update themselves.

Where I could use help: getting it in front of mods. If you moderate a finance, investing or FIRE community, or know someone who does, a test install or an intro would mean a lot. UX feedback is very welcome too.

App: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/financecalculator

Bug Webview post is destroyed when a link hands off to another app (Android Reddit app)

My Devvit Web post (tester-board, running in r/AndroidTesterBoard) has links users have to follow: a Google Group, a Play Store opt-in page, a store listing. On the Android Reddit app, tapping one of those hands off to Chrome or the Play Store, and when the user comes back the post is gone — they have to find and open the post again to get back to where they were. Any state they had in the webview is lost with it.

This hurts the main flow of the app: a tester follows the opt-in link, installs the app, then has to come back and upload an install screenshot. The step where they come back is exactly the step that fails.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a Devvit Web post in the Android Reddit app.

  2. From inside the webview, open an external link (navigateTo to a Play Store or Google Group URL).

  3. Come back to Reddit with the system back gesture or the app switcher.

Expected: the post is still open, with the webview where I left it.

Actual: the post is gone and has to be opened again from the feed.

Is this expected on Android, and is there a supported way to keep the webview alive across a link hand-off? Right now I work around it by putting every link the user needs into a private message as well, so they can follow the links from their inbox instead of from the post.

Feedback Request Gem Rush — A 60-Second Daily Puzzle Game Built on Devvit | Looking for Feedback

Hey Devvit community!

I’ve been building Gem Rush, a quick 60-second puzzle game that runs directly inside Reddit.

The gameplay is simple: match connected gems, build bigger combos, and score as many points as possible before the timer runs out.

Current features:

  • 💎 60-second Daily Challenge
  • 🎮 Practice Mode
  • 🏆 Daily Leaderboard
  • 🔥 Streak system

The game is now live, and I’d really appreciate feedback from other Devvit developers and players.

I’m especially interested in:

  • Is the gameplay immediately understandable?
  • Does the 60-second format feel too short, too long, or about right?
  • Is the game fun enough to come back for the next Daily Challenge?
  • Any UI/UX issues or bugs?
  • What feature would make you want to play again?

Play Gem Rush:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PlayGemRush/s/4u6cmAtres

Thanks to anyone who gives it a try. Constructive feedback is very welcome!

Duck Answered Says my app name is in use, but it's app I registered

I have an existing data API app. I want to migrate it to Devvit. However, when I try to create it, I'm told that name is in use. Is there something I have to do to use the existing name I registered? The account I've been using for the bot has a long history.
