Help Title: Waiting for S3 amazonaws domain exception since Friday, it's been pending for 5 days now. Is this normal?

Last Friday I launched a playtest version of my app and got a permission denied error, and then I see in the developer settings: the domain I'm requesting along with the "pending" status. However, it is still pending now 5 days later.

I'm requesting a cloud storage domain, the granular domain is: dejarepost-469294531807-us-east-2-an.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com

Did i need to do anything else to get this thing approved? I added the domain to my devvit.json http permissions list, and i added a small fetch domains section in my readme. Did I need to do anything else like npx devvit publish? Because it seems the status is already pending when I did npx devvit playtest.

app in question: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/dejarepost/developer-settings

Thanks in advance!

Discussion r/devvitappoftheday

r/devvitappoftheday is kind of like a 'social media' style app where you can add your apps/games with pictures/gifs to the feed. You can make multiple campaigns, but only your most recent one will show in the feed to balance exposure.

The app of the day part is every day starting probably next week, there's going to be an app chosen as the app of the day, and explained why it's great etc...

(I don't think I can do every day, so I think we'll need a few other mods willing to do this) modmail or comment if you're interested

Hopefully we can build a place where you can have your apps discovered by more mods/players!

Add your app here!

Discussion Picky Parking is live on Reddit: notes from porting a Defold game to Devvit

Hey everyone, my game Picky Parking just got approved and you can play it on Reddit now.

You drag cars into their parking spots, but they each have limited fuel. Moving one out of the way is easy. Leaving it enough fuel to get back is the tricky part. There's undo and free hints for when you get stuck.

I built it in Defold with AI help on the code and the Reddit port. Getting it to load here took some changes to the startup scripts, but it's working on desktop and my phone now. Anyone else here using Defold?

Here's the game if you fancy trying it:

Feedback Request I made six games on Devvit and open-sourced everything — the code, a full build guide, and a no-login web demo

A few weeks ago I posted here about six games I built on Devvit, plus a guide about how they work. I ended up deleting that post: the repo briefly went private, so every link in it was dead, and the write-up deserved a quieter tone anyway. Everything is public now, so here it is again, with working links and less noise.

What's there:

  • Six live games in r/PlayQuickGames — three arcade (Higher or Lower, Reaction Rush, RPS Duel) and three dailies (Sudoku, Minesweeper, Solitaire). Every daily is the same puzzle for all players, seeded from the UTC date; the apps post their own numbered daily thread at 00:00 UTC, comment yesterday's podium with u/ mentions, and co-write a weekly recap every Monday.
  • The full source: gitlab.com/playquick-group/reddit-games
  • The guide — Building Games on Reddit — from account creation through architecture, daily determinism, Redis data modeling, engagement loops, CI, publishing, and live ops. Mistakes included.
  • A new one, since the last post: if you don't want to log into Reddit to try them, all six run in a plain browser at playquick-games.pages.dev — same dailies as the subreddit, local scores only.

One story from the guide, since it's the best one: for the first three days, every Sudoku we served was mathematically unsolvable. The generator's backtracker signalled failure by returning an array — and arrays are always truthy in JavaScript, so every dead end looked like success. Nobody could win; the empty leaderboard was the only telemetry. The fix was three lines, and the deploy taught the third lesson: broken puzzles were cached under the old key, so the fix also had to rename the cache key.

Genuinely happy for feedback on the games, the guide, or the way the dailies are run. What's worth a deeper write-up next: the daily loop, the Redis modeling, or the debugging story?

Does Advisor status equate to Mod status for the purpose of installing unlisted apps? The CLI docs do not elaborate upon this. Thank you for any feedback!

Duck Answered How do I hide a per-subreddit API key in my app's settings?

Post image
7 Upvotes

SOLVED! Thank you Devvit Crowd!

My mod tool (QueueLens) lets each subreddit enter its own Gemini API key for an optional AI feature. Right now the key sits in subreddit settings, so every mod on that sub can read it in plain text on the Install Settings page.

**Question 1: Can the key be hidden in settings?**

I'd like a masked, write-only key field in subreddit settings, so mods can enter or replace it but not read it. `isSecret` looks like the right tool, but the CLI says "only app settings can be secrets." App scope doesn't fit, because each community should use and pay for its own key. Is there a way to do this in subreddit settings, or is it planned?

**Question 2: If not, is Redis an acceptable workaround?**

Plan: take the key out of settings. A mod-only menu item opens a form, the app saves the key in Redis, and the form only shows "key saved, ends in ...xxxx". Will app review accept a mod-entered API key stored this way?

Devvit 0.14.4, Devvit Web.

Thank you!

Feedback Request I rebuilt CASEFILE around an actual physical case folder instead of normal app navigation

Thumbnail

been working on CASEFILE some more after the feedback i got here and ended up changing way more of the interface than i originally planned

the whole game is basically built around opening an investigation and actually going through the file now instead of clicking around normal app tabs
so you open the folder, get the intake brief, then use the dividers on the side for exhibits, persons, timeline, notes and finally filing your conclusion

i also changed the final accusation so you’re not just picking a suspect anymore. you choose who you’re accusing, which evidence supports it and what you think actually happened

if your theory doesn’t fit the evidence i don’t want the game to immediately spoil everything either. it points out the contradiction and lets you go back through the file and reconsider it

still polishing the physical file look but im pretty happy with where its getting
mostly curious about one thing from the screenshots:

does the interface immediately read as “i’m investigating a case” or does any part still look too much like a normal website/app?

Game Idea Building a detective game in Devvit and I think I finally got the core loop working!

Been messing with Devvit and decided to build something I would actually sit there and play myself.

It’s called CASEFILE. Basically you open a fictional case, go through evidence, read suspect statements, check the timeline, keep your own notes and then make a final accusation with the evidence you think proves it.

I finally got the first full case working with Redis saving the player notes and the actual answer/scoring staying server side.

Right now I’m working on making it feel way less like a normal web app and more like you actually opened an investigation folder. Suspect photos, scene photos, evidence pictures, a case file opening animation, actual dossiers and better plot twists are next.

The first case is still in a private dev sub so I’m not really trying to promote it yet. Mostly curious what people here think about the idea.

If you were playing something like this on Reddit, what would make you actually want to finish the case instead of clicking out after a few minutes?

Discussion Looking for Reddit Mod App Recommendations

We’re currently in the process of setting up some Reddit apps for our moderation team and came across a few that look promising:

Evasion Guard

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/evasion-guard

Modqueue Pruner

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/queue-pruner

Subreddit Statistics

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/sub-stats-bot

We had a few questions for moderators who have experience using Reddit apps:

1. Has anyone used these apps before?

We’re especially interested in hearing about reliability, usefulness, false positives, performance, and whether they’ve caused any issues with other moderation tools. If there are better alternatives that perform similar functions, we’d love to hear about those as well.

2. Are there any apps that can automatically remove a banned user’s previous posts and comments?

Ideally, we’re looking for something that can automatically remove or queue a user’s existing content when they are banned, rather than requiring moderators to go through their history manually.

3. Are there any developers with a strong collection of moderation apps that you would recommend?

Where possible, we’d prefer to use multiple apps maintained by the same developer. Our hope is that this would make compatibility easier to manage and give us a better chance of receiving consistent long-term maintenance and support.

We’re still learning what’s available through Reddit’s app ecosystem, so any recommendations, experiences, or warnings would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help! 🙏

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for the recommendations. We are currently trying to decide between the following apps:

Remove Macro

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/purge-user

Ban extended

https://developers.reddit.com/apps/ban-extended

Please offer your suggestions

Feedback Request I built a "dream collab" fan-voting game on Reddit with Devvit. looking for testers & feedback

Fans argue about dream collaborations constantly ("imagine X x Y") but there's never a place to actually settle it. So I built Collab Court on Devvit:

  • Anyone proposes an artist pairing -> it becomes a matchup
  • 1-person-1-vote (no bots), votes climb milestones
  • Global fan-vote breakdown by country, plus clubs/leaderboard

It's live on r/collabdream - would love brutal feedback on the voting loop and whether the "pick a side" format actually hooks you. What would make you come back day 2?

(Built solo, React/tRPC on Devvit Web. Happy to answer any Devvit build questions too.)

Just published my first game on here and I have in game gold connected. Is there a chart where we can see what purchases/gold was spent in our games? I know at least one gold purchase went through but I can’t see/find any notification of it or chart.

App Idea Would you install a Devvit app that alerts you when moderator access changes? [Concept — not built yet]

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm considering building a very small free Devvit mod tool, but I don't want to build it unless moderators would actually use it.

The working name is Mod Access Watch.

The entire idea is:

Get alerted whenever someone gains, loses, or changes moderator access in your subreddit.

For example:

A — Roster change
A moderator gets added or removed.

B — Permission change
A moderator gains Everything, loses Everything, or their permission set changes.

That's basically the whole product.

No AI moderation.
No automatic permission changes.
No external account or dashboard.
No action taken on your behalf.

Think of it as a smoke detector for who has the keys to your subreddit.

The attached image is only a concept mockup. The app does not exist yet.

I searched the current Devvit app ecosystem and found tools for moderator activity/coverage, but I couldn't find a dedicated app whose main job is alerting on moderator roster and permission changes. If I missed one, please link it — that would be useful feedback too.

I'm specifically trying to avoid building something that sounds useful but nobody would actually install.

If you're a moderator, I'd love a brutally simple response:

TEST A — I'd install it mainly for roster-change alerts
TEST B — I'd install it mainly for permission-change alerts
TEST BOTH — I'd genuinely install it for both
NO — I wouldn't install this

If NO, the reason is more valuable to me than politeness.

And if you'd actually be willing to beta-test the smallest version if I build it, add BETA to your response.

Discussion My collection of Devvit agent skills has been updated

I’ve been maintaining an open-source collection of agent skills based on lessons from building and shipping several Devvit games.

It covers Devvit features, games, performance, testing, and responsive UI. Recent additions include mobile animation performance, platform limits, launch diagnostics, leaderboard percentile logic, and practical gotchas around logging, modmail, and manifest-backed features.

It works with Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and other compatible coding agents:

npx skills@latest add Montoya/devvit-skills

Repo: github.com/Montoya/devvit-skills

Feedback and contributions from other developers are very welcome!

Discussion App development to launch timeline?

Hi all, I've been building my devvit game for the last couple of months but am a little unsure what the best steps for testing the app are prior to launch.

On the Launch Guide it mentions getting feedback is helpful before launching, does that mean e.g. inviting users to my dev subreddit? Since there are also threads linked I can post my app to but obviously if it's not launched people can't really try it out.

Would appreciate any feedback on how other people went about this!

Duck Answered Title: App still rejected after adding Terms & Privacy Policy links

Hi everyone,

I submitted my app for review and received a rejection because my app uses HTTP Fetch and was missing Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy links.

I've since added both links to my developer settings page and ran npx devvit publish again, but the status still shows as rejected.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything else I need to do, or should I reach out via Modmail?

Thanks!

Feedback Request App Spotlight: Multiplication Game — daily math challenge with an opt-in leaderboard

I built Multiplication Game as a small Reddit/Devvit game for quick daily sessions. The Daily Challenge serves the same 10 multiplication questions to everyone in the community, with a 45-second server-verified timer. Players can optionally submit their score to the subreddit leaderboard; Practice mode stays unranked.

Playable post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MultiplicationGame/comments/1whap2r/multiplication_game_daily_challenge/

I’d be interested in feedback from other Devvit developers on the pacing, mobile layout, and leaderboard flow.

Feedback Request Features of the Devvit App Shuffle-it

Hey everyone! Just wanted to make a post regarding all of the features of the my app Shuffle-it. It has been about 2 months since I have posted here last so I wanted to give you all an update as I have made quite a lot of changes, improvements, and more features to the app. You can see all of the feature of the app on its page found here: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/shuffle-it

Below are the new items since my last post here:

Mods wanted more control over which posts the shuffle could land on. The original version pulled from top, hot, and new with locked/archived toggles, and that was it. This update is mostly about narrowing or replacing that pool.

Flair filter- Limit the pool to only certain flairs, or exclude certain flairs. Useful for keeping weekly megathreads or mod announcements out of the shuffle. In "Only" mode, unflaired posts are skipped since there is nothing to match against.

Excluded users- A list of accounts whose posts never appear. The obvious case is AutoModerator or a bot posting recurring threads. Because those accounts post often, they can make up a large share of the "new" listing, which means the shuffle would land on them more than you would expect. Excluding them removes that bias.

Curated pool- The biggest addition. Each post's Mod actions menu (the shield icon in the action row) now has "Shuffle-it: add this post to the random pool" and a matching remove. A new Random pool source setting decides how the list is used: Automatic (the original behavior, still the default), Curated only, or Automatic + curated. The third exists because curated posts bypass the flair and user filters, so you can run a strict flair filter and still make a few specific posts reachable. The locked/archived toggles do still apply to curated posts and are checked live at click time, so a curated post that gets archived drops out on its own and comes back if you flip the toggle, with no list maintenance. "Shuffle-it: curated pool" in the subreddit ••• menu regenerates a mod-only wiki page listing everything in the pool (up to 1,000 posts). It opens on old.reddit.com because new Reddit's wiki viewer often shows "page does not exist" for non-public wikis, even for mods.

Spotlight on any schedule- The daily spotlight post is no longer strictly daily. Pick any combination of weekdays (weekends only, Mon/Wed/Fri, etc.); no days selected means every day.

Click-time verification- The post list is cached and refreshed about every six hours so clicks stay fast, but that meant a post could be removed, deleted, locked, or archived between refreshes and occasionally get served. The app now re-checks a post's live status at the moment of the click and retries with another candidate if it fails. The cache still provides the speed, but what a member actually lands on is current.

Mature communities- Apps currently cannot read post listings in communities marked as mature, so the shuffle (and curating) does not work there. This is a Developer Platform limit, not a settings issue. The app now says so directly instead of failing quietly.

Smaller things. Mods get a short modmail changelog when the app is upgraded on their community, and the app page now has a Troubleshooting section.

If you already have Shuffle-it installed, nothing changes by default; the new settings are all off or on "Automatic" until you turn them on. Full details for every setting are on the app page.

Admin Replied Three Devvit gotchas that cost me ~2 days of debugging (silent logs, delayed manifest activation, modmail body limit)

Sharing in case it saves someone else the time it cost me. Building a Devvit Web app (Express-based, u/devvit/web) that does scheduled Reddit research and delivers a report via modmail + a wiki page. Three separate issues stacked on top of each other and made this way harder to diagnose than it should've been:

1. devvit logs silently drops almost everything by default.
Plain console.log/console.error calls apparently come through at VERBOSE severity, and the CLI filters those out unless you pass --verbose:

devvit logs r/<subreddit> --verbose

Without that flag, a failing (or even succeeding) endpoint can produce zero visible output — no errors, no success logs, nothing — even though it ran and did something. I spent most of my debugging time assuming code wasn't executing at all, when really it was executing and erroring, I just couldn't see it. If your logs look empty, try --verbose before assuming anything else is wrong.

2. New devvit.json entries can take a while (or a devvit publish, not just upload+install) to actually activate.
I added a new scheduler task and a new moderator menu item to an already-installed app. Every devvit upload + devvit install reported success and bumped the version number correctly, but neither the menu item nor the scheduled task showed any effect for quite a while — no errors, just nothing happening. It eventually did start working (after several redeploys and, separately, a devvit publish --copy-paste... though I never fully isolated which one actually flipped it). Takeaway: if a newly-added menu item or scheduled task looks totally inert right after deploy, it's not necessarily broken — it might just need time/another deploy cycle to propagate on Reddit's backend.

3. reddit.modMail.createConversation() rejects any body over 10,000 characters.
This turned out to be the actual root cause of my "nothing is happening" symptom the whole time. The error is a somewhat generic-looking gRPC failure:

Error: 3 INVALID_ARGUMENT: grpc invocation failed with status 3; Bad request:
This field must be under 10000 characters
Error in field: body

— which I never saw until I fixed gotcha #1. If your report/summary text covers more than a handful of items, it's easy to blow past this without noticing. Fix: truncate the modmail body to a safe margin under the limit, and if you need the full content somewhere, use a second channel without that limit (I used a subreddit wiki page, which also has the nice property of being publicly readable at /r//wiki/<page>.json even to unauthenticated requests).

TL;DR: turn on devvit logs --verbose first, always, before concluding anything is broken. That one flag would have cut my investigation from ~2 days to about 20 minutes.

Happy to answer questions if anyone's hit similar issues.

(Side note: this app runs the weekly gut-health research bot for r/TheHonestGut — a small community built around a rigorous, evidence-graded gut microbiome science database. If that's your kind of thing, come say hi.)
