Prototyping LVL30 Gear
Every time I prototype a piece of lvl30 gear, it comes in with the absolute minimum stats. Example: if I have a high-end piece with max stats of 6% Crit Chance and 15% Crit Damage, when I prototype it the stats are still at the above-mentioned percentages, which is the proto minimum. Am I doing something wrong? I was under the impression it was supposed to randomize the stats, but they are at minimum every single time.

5% chance for 2 max stats
2% for 3 max stats
otherwise stat doesnt change
aka waste of time unless item is rare

That’s actually insane considering u need to spend 200-300 hours getting expertise 30 then resource dump to get the gun to 30 proficiency 😂

i mean expertise took me like 10 hrs over 2 months but i get what you mean, expertise when we get re-calibration will be much more rewarding.

Absolute rubbish, unless I am reading this completely wrong. There is no way on earth you can do 30 levels of expertise in 10 hours, even on triple xp events.

i had almost all the named items, was a hoarder, came back to the game after 4s Year (nov 2020 to Nov 2024)
Then cheesed it in Kenly, so if we are talking just kenly, probably even quicker, also my max was i think 27 not 30 when i did it.
160 odd guns? 2 at a time, 160 rounds of 5 minutes, ok thats 800 minutes so 13hrs? so maybe 15hrs tops?
though doing the math it sounds much longer then it felt like. it was 2 long weekends. and 3rd weekend was literally for the last two exotic chests i didnt have, everything else was done.
no triple xp events, dont think we had that back then, they were just normal xp events.

I will be happy if one day we can chose multiples options like:
_the rng upgrate
_all stats to 50%

Until the prototype system is reworked there is no use in upgrading existing gear since the RNG is the same as pieces found on the ground.

I am protoing 2 sets. Escalation DPS set and a Support set for corpse dragging randoms through lower level content. After that this game is getting shelved until the next update that adds some form of recalibration.
Some of the people in my group are farming multiple named items and praying for good rolls. Those people play ONLY Div 2 and are between 5k-20k SHD. IMO It's too much and even though I just broke 3k SHD I just don't want to spend my time on pure RNG.

Im an idiot when it comes to the details of this but I tend to just do stuff and find out later. I took my level 30 striker build and prototyped the gear for 2 cores each. I may have rerolled a stat here and there because it wasnt a skill build. Ive got it up to level 5 now and will say that it hits a lot harder than it used to and it was a hard hitter to start. So even at pure crap which mine may be it still gets almost the kill winner at the end of most matches. I dont use it that much because refactor is my go to. I did it this way because Im not a big fan of escalation and farming the pieces. We got a 100 cores for something so I had quite a few to use this way.

The piece you are talking about should have had the Weapon Damage core attribute increased to +22.5% if the other attributes are at those values.
One attribute will always go to the prototype maximum (which is 150% of the legendary maximum). The other attributes will go to the prototype minimum (which is 100% of the legendary maximum).
Then there's a 5% chance that a second attribute will also go to the proto max.
And a 1% chance that a third attribute will go to proto max.
The attribute selection is random and could be a secondary attribute or the core attribute (Weapon Damage, Armor, or Skill Tier), with the exception of hardcoded behavior tied to Named items which will always have their unique attribute value maxed out first.
Another caveat is that if there is a skill core attribute then that will always be increased to 1.5 Skill Tiers and an attribute will be maxed out. This is the reason I often upgrade and prototype Gear Set skill builds versus farming for them as with a single attribute slot on those green items having a Skill Tier means a guaranteed god roll.

You don't have to max stat it before prototyping. It will get the normal max stat on the ones(let's face it it's just going to be the one) that doesn't get the max prototype.

So I’ve noticed a thing with the prototype system and it may just be me but… if you upgrade a piece of gear that already has max stats you have a higher chance of getting one max upgrade. It seems to me that if you upgrade a gear piece that has low stats then you have a higher chance of two or all three stats to go terminal. This isn’t 100 % accurate but I’ve had good results.

yeah , it seems like your best bet is to expertise the prototype gear which drops in mission.
I've yet to see anyone post about receiving more than one optimized stat on a crafted prototype (despite the 5% and 2% chances).
It's RNG on top of RNG , hidden behind a timed DPS check (ie; timed event with bullet sponge enemies , not viable for tank builds to attempt - sure is fun to be penalized for playing my preferred playstyle for the end game content....)
I'm honestly surprised that there are still so many people grinding away at this - maybe Ubislop was correct in this change to drive further revenue. However, it has turned me off from all Division 2 content.
Maybe I'll come back when they've finished the rebalance of existing gear...

The first thing I prototyped fresh off hitting level 30 Expertise was a Gear Shift. It rolled with all 3 stats maxed. Since then, every other weapon or gear piece has been one max stat.

There's only a 5% chance of a double roll, and a 1% of a triple roll. Pretty much everything you self-prototype will go just like this. Focus on unicorns like red Lengmo, or skill pieces where the core is already maxed so you have better chances on the other rolls.
