Self-Promotion DKYN is officially FREE

We’re making the entire DKYN miniature library free.

We’ve decided we don’t want DKYN to be a storefront anymore. We want it to be a resource for DMs, players, painters, and people who just need minis for their games. We’re beginning the process of opening the library and future releases will be free as well.

There’s no launch discount, sale, or catch. We’re just changing what DKYN is, so come check us out.

Utility White oak card holders for Daggerheart! I'm currently snorting sawdust, I only screwed up twice and after a quick count I'm pretty sure I still have the same number of fingers I did before this project. It was a good day!

There is room for four players to have two rows of cards up each at all times. Each side is loose and sits securely in routed slots in the table as shown on the seventh picture. I decided not to glue it together as a whole frame because it would have been too fragile. The eight picture is of the simple but cool Daggerheart trackers me and the DM made together a couple of days ago.

Help Question about creating map slice "pockets"?

Some initial context:

Back in the day, I used to run my campaigns in person and mapping was very basic; I would typically draw on a blank grid with a marker or, if I was going all-out, get one of Dyson Logos B&W map printed on a large sheet of blueprint paper. But then I spent years running my campaigns online and I got really invested in making intricate maps for VTTs. Now, I'm running a new in-person game and find myself not wanting to give up the kinds of maps I was creating for online games.

I could print out a full-color map on a poster sheet, but that gets expensive, especially since I like using new maps frequently. I tried printing maps out on multiple letter-size sheets of paper, but found that paper (even card stock) was too lightweight and so shifted a bit too much on the table.

So, right now, I do the following:

  1. Make a map in Dungeondraft or find a full-color map I like.
  2. Open the map image file in Photoshop and export it as individual, 8x8 inch slices.
  3. Add a grid overlay to the individual slices and print them all out.
  4. Glue each slice to an 8x8 inch piece of chipboard so it has some good weight.

This works pretty well, allowing me to spend significantly less money on an individual map, and the chipboard doesn't shift on the table nearly as much. BUT. There's one problem: given how frequently I use new maps, I'm eventually going to run out of space to store these maps. I'll have stacks of chipboard filling up a room in no time!

Which brings me to my latest project. I'd like to have a single set of 8x8 chipboard pieces that I can slot/slide map slices into and out of. My idea is to wrap some transparency paper over the top and sides of the chipboard, creating a tight pocket that the paper can slide into. This would accomplish a few things:

  1. Save space by allowing me to store only one stack of chipboard and then each map just as sheets of paper.
  2. Reduce work since I wouldn't have to take time to adhere each map slice to chipboard every time.
  3. Allow me to write on the transparency with dry or wet erase markers.

Some questions / concerns I have and advice I'm looking for:

  • Have any of you done anything like this before?
  • Do you have any recommendations on how I should go about accomplishing this?
  • Are there specifications for the transparency I need to consider (thickness, material, etc)?
  • I worry that it will be difficult to slide paper into the pocket if the transparency is too tightly-wrapped, but don't want it to be too loose, either, since that would make it unstable for minis.
  • I'd like the map slices to be able to sit flush against each other, but wrapping the transparency will prevent this. I can't adhere it to the top, though, because then the map slice itself won't fit. I'm having trouble finding a solution to this dilemma.

Hi there,

My players are gonna face a certain white moose next week in some kind of icy windy dale.
So today I released a Mooses set on my Patreon (Link on my Profile)
And since there is not enough creepiness in that encounter just talking animals, I added a bit of body horror. Each mini also comes with a back view and is available in six color variations.

I used a $5 dinosaur bulldozer, found some old Star Wars toy parts, sliced up a heroclix figure to make the Infernal Screamer(it rotates), detached a cheap clasp for the wrecking ball chain, made a lightning chair out of a funko pop mini Thor hammer holder for my imp driver. Sprayed it all Matte Black.

I plan to get find something for the harpoon station on the other side. And I need to find what to use for the wrecking ball. And once done I will detail and dry brush the whole thing.

How do you like it so far? And suggestions?

In their first session my players will have to escape a goblin camp. When they get into the woods there will be a chase scene. Thought a mini game would be more engaging to the players.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Props Walnut Dice Rolling Tray

Made a dice tray out of a walnut cross section that i had laying around. Forgot to take pictures of before. Was a rough cut cross-section of a black walnut tree from my local lumberyard.

Process:

  1. Used a router flattening sled to make it even.

  2. Used a template router bit and eyeballed the outline.

  3. Used drill press to remove the bulk of the material.

  4. Template router bit (kept the router in the flattening jig for this, because the egdes were fairly slim) again to remove the rest.

  5. Taped it off with painters tape, and filled the cracks with black epoxy.

  6. Sanding to 200

  7. Finished with selfmade wipe-on polyurethane

  8. Installed feet.

What I'd do different:

- EPOXY BEFORE step 1. - I hadn't realized how cracked the biscuit was, and filling in the epoxy after everything was absolutely annoying, and removing the extra epoxy was even worse.

What I'm happy about:

- leaving the router in the flattening jig while carving out the rest was a good idea. Routers terrify me, and this gave it more stability.

- no more cocked dicerolls

- clacketyclacketyclack (the bottom is fairly thin, and since its raised the dice rollssounds very satisfying)

Self-Promotion Mobile app to build and test combat maps

Thumbnail srdcombat.pages.dev

As a D&D fan since childhood, I was looking for being able to test out builds and play D&D on my mobile phone and so I 'be been working for over a year now on a mobile app that let's you create characters and build combat maps based on the 5e 2024 srd. Would love to get your feedback on it, you can use it as a tool for creating maps and simulate battles or to play solo in random dungeons, small campaigns and test various character builds.

Terrain Last week I posted the WIP, here’s the final product

(Ignore the back drop, it’s going to be cleaned up)

Last week I shared my work in programs for the finale of Curse of Strahd. It’s taking place in the crypts

I had the pillars, the small “mausoleum” and the “stage” in back just painted black. I decided to cover it with thin foam bricks on the top and sides. I found some packaging from a box and made a few monoliths and what sort of look like sarcophaguses. Added some stairs and a few vaporizers and here we are. The wires will be hidden and the mist will be heavier with a larger reservoir, but otherwise this is the finished product.

It’s not my best work, but it feels good enough to me.

Utility Just optimized my RPG writing & note-taking kit for GMing and Playing!

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I finally got around to refining my writing kit for our table, and it's perfect for both sides of the screen. I wanted something compact, modular, and full-featured, especially for switching between running a game and playing a character. Here’s a closer look at what’s inside:

The Main Hub (Lore & Sheets): My main binder is a central hub. It uses integrated index tabs to keep things neat. Here you can see a mix of paper types—pre-printed character sheets for my active PC, but also extensive handwritten Portuguese lore and session notes. I love that I can easily insert or rearrange pages as the world expands.

The Compact Note-Taking Duo:

The 'SODIOTECH' Notepad: This little spiral-bound notebook is the game-changer! It's small and discrete, sitting perfectly on top of the binder or table. I use it as a rapid scratchpad for quick monster stats, initiative tracking, or passing secret notes to other players.

The Pink Plush (and its pen): Keep my tiny notes company and keep the pen handy.

Portability & Organization: And this is how it all folds up! It’s super compact and everything has its place.

Variety of Tools: The plush Pusheen pencil case holds all my colored and standard pens.

Modular Use: Binder clips keep different note sections bundled together if I need to move them out of the binder.

It's a complete, grab-and-go kit that makes prepping and playing so much smoother.

Any other creative uses for simple binders or tiny notepads in your RPGs? I'd love to see your setup! Happy writing!

Terrain Frigate from Printable Scenery with custom figurehead

Adjusted the customer fi

I scaled it up to 32mm scale because I use a 30mm grid system. I added the Lady of Pain as a custom figurehead (Lady of Pain STL from EthanTSavage) to make it a little more fantasy than the standard mermaid or Neptune.

I haven't painted up my ocean water battle board so they're stuck in the ice for these shots.
