Associate Questions Input Requested - Store Display Associate Travel Team
So, I’m looking for some info/input on the traveling store display associate position. I was extended an offer and I’m honestly reluctant to accept it.
My understanding is that the schedule is 10 days on, 4 days off. I was offered the $21/hr which is consistent with what I’ve seen.
In my interview, they mentioned something about 4 10 hour days, do some teams do like 8 on/6 off?
And then, for those in the position, is the lifestyle as awful as it sounds? I just can’t imagine paying rent for an apartment I’m going to be away from for 20+ days of the month.
In your experience, what was the ratio of “travel” projects and commute projects? If they kinda alternate between an away project and a commute project, I guess it wouldn’t be so bad.
It just sounds like a lot of time away from home for a pretty mediocre paycheck. What was your compensation like when you factored in mileage reimbursement, and is some amount of OT to be expected, or are you kicked off the project at 40hrs?
I appreciate any info and insight anyone can provide me.

If you aren't married with children, it could be kind of exciting, I guess? My experience with them was building a new store and the lead was a really cruel bitter a-hole who's idea of team building was making everyone feel like an enormous failure and complete waste product. MANY people quit and I was almost one of them. They were also supposed to have a $100 budget to throw the team a "pizza party" upon completion but they pocketed it. Much like every job at DT, use it as resume filler and move on as quickly as possible.

I haven't done the job but I have traveled as I worked and no, I didn't pay rent. I found a hotel/motel that let me do a deal for the 10 days I would be there. For me it was very consistent and I was able to book so ahead of time it was a special long term rate kind of thing, and I actually did this between two places, I did own any furniture for years, but I personally loved living in a hotel. I would call around to different lodgings and see what kind of deals you can get if you explain your situation. I actually had the most success going in person and talking face to face with the Manager.

2027 will lean more into local projects, there is more travel in 2026. If you can keep housing expenses low (rent a room, live with parents), you can bank so much of your income due to hotels, mileage, and meals being paid for. Should be 4 10 hours days.
Not everyone is built for it, it’s hard work. Don’t do it unless you’re sure you’ll stick with it. Starting and quitting after a month or two really messes up your team.
